Code No: C1CE02-C1106 I B.Tech(CCC) Supplementary Examinations, May/Jun 2007 SURVEYING (Civil Engineering) Time: 3 hours Answer any FIVE Questions All Questions carry equal marks 1. (a) Explain how you will run a straight line between two points in the following cases [10+10] i. Both ends intervisible. ii. Both ends are not intervisible from any intermediate point. (b) With two theodolites, how an intersection point of two straight lines is located. 2. The top (Q) of a chimney was sighted from two stations P and R at very dierent levels, the stations P and R being in the line with the top of the chimney. The angle of elevation from P to the top of the chimney was 380 21 and that from R to the top of the chimney was 210 18 . The angle of elevation from R to a vane 2 m above the foot of the sta held at P was 150 11 . The heights of the instrument at P and R were 1.87 m and 1.64 m respectively. The horizontal distance between P and R was 127 m and the reduced level of R was 112. 78 m. nd the R.L. of the top of the chimney and the horizontal distance from P to the chimney. [20] 3. The following readings are taken with an anallactic tacheometer setup at the stations A, B and C in connection with an open traverse ABCD. The sta being held vertically at each station. The reduced level of the station A is 51.650 m. Determine the horizontal distances AB, BC and CD and the reduced levels of B,C and D. [20] 4. (a) Describe a method of setting out a simple circular curve with the help of chain and tape only. (b) Two parallel railway lines are to be connected by a reverse curve, each section having the same radius. If the lines are 10 m apart and the maximum distance between tangent points measured parallel to the straights is 40 m. Find the maximum allowable radius. If however, both the radii are dierent, calculate the radius of the second branch if that of the 1st branch is 50m. Also calculate lengths of both branches. [10+10] 1 of 2

5. (a) A reverse curve of two equal circular arcs is to connect two parallel tangents, 9 m apart. If the distance between the connected points parallel to the straights is 81 m, nd the radius of the arcs. (b) A reverse curve is to be set out between two parallel tangents 30 m apart. The line joining the two tangent points is 300 m. The two arcs of the curve have the same radius. Calculate the necessary data to set the curve on the eld by osets from a long chord at intervals of 20 m from the common tangent point. [10+10] 6. (a) Discuss the classication of Triangulation in detail. (b) Explain the Criteria for selection of Layout of triangles in Triangulation. [10+10] 7. (a) Explain the principle of photogrammetry and its limitations. (b) What is Terrestrial photograph. Explain. (c) Describe the branches of Terrestrial photogrammetry.

8. (a) Describe scale of vertical photograph over at terrain and over variable terrain. (b) To determine the average scale of an aerial photograph, three points A,B and C were selected. Their elevations were determined from a contour map as 1400 m, 900 m and 1100 m. If the ying height of the air craft above MSL is 3500 m and the focal length of the camera lens is 160 mm, calculate the average scale of the aerial photograph. [10+10]
