Message

It is a matter of great happiness for all of us to see HARMONY the school magazine, of VKV
Ziro is taking a good shape every year. This magazine encourages in bringing out the hidden
talents of many future poets, writers, artists and orators. Both teachers and students come
with many new ideas and make this magazine worth reading.
The magazine synchronizes the creative urge of students and staff and adds another feather to
the progressive trend of the school. The Soul of Arunachal Pradesh lies in their rich indigenous
faith and culture. Preserving this age old culture with pride and practicing it in the daily life and
propagating to the younger generation by setting good example is the need of the hour. I am
sure with the co-operation of district administration, well wishers, parents, former VKVians
and general public, VKV Ziro is bound to bring a total positive transformation with its varieties
of developmental activities in Lower Subansiri.
As the whole nation is set to celebrate 150
th
birth anniversary (Sardha Shati Samaroh) of
Swami Vivekananda, I take this opportunity to appeal to everyone to participate in the
celebration which Vivekananda Kendra has taken up with the theme Wake up Bharat
Enlighten the World (Bharat Jago Vishwa Jagao). Young, promising youth can take many more
activities to take the message of the cyclonic, patriotic monk of our motherland, Swami
Vivekananda to a wider circle. May their writings, arts, poems etc get channelized to shape
Samartha Arunachal, Samarth Bharat!
I on behalf of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas in Arunachal Pradesh invoke the blessings of
Donyi-Polo for all the success to all associated with this effort of Man Making Nation Building
task.
With warm regards and prayers.
Yours Sincerely,
B.Radha Devi
Joint Secretary

MESSAGE

It is a great pleasure that the Orators Club, the Science Club and the
Eco Club, like the previous year, are going to bring out the school
souvenir, Harmony (Vol. II). Last year the souvenir received high
appraisal and considerable attention from readers and well-wishers
which have inspired us for another move.
Last years souvenir gave us new ray of life and hope which really
encouraged us how to lead a life in a world of stress and frustration.
It was like life-giving nectar that animates a life in death bed.
In our day to day life we encounter many people yielding to frustration
being burdened with stresses. They have become oblivious about
peaceful and happy life and to turn over a new leaf owing to their
stress-ridden lives. To rejuvenate such people and bring them back to
righteous path who have gone astray is the only aim which is just a
little effort to disseminate among people a hope of new dawn in life.

With warm greetings.

Anand Mohan Mishra,
Principal, VKV, Ziro

EDITORIAL

Creativity is the rapid reflection of ones own harmony of
mind, intellect and sense. How is this creativity created?
Is it created or a gifted one? Life history of great
personality documents that creativity is a created one.
Nature has blessed everyone with a creative mind. If this
is nurtured properly in the childhood, it blossoms out into
beautiful creation. This magazine, harmony mirrors the creativity of the
students of VKV, Ziro.

The Orators Club along with the Science Club and the Eco Club are very
enthusiastic to produce top class orators and writers in English and
consolidate scientific temperament among the students.

Work, work, work, let this be your motto, says Swami Vivekananda. This
edition of Harmony is the result of sincere efforts and hard works of teachers
and students and beautifully reflects the above quotation of Swamiji.

As in the previous year, this is completely a student oriented which contains the
expression of the budding writers and artists. While turning the pages you will
see the articles, poems, short stories, facts etc. With all these genres, the
eagerly awaited 2
nd
volume of Harmony is crawling in your hands. I hope you
will relish and enjoy the whole reading.

Yours sincerely,
Nada Yasha,
Literary Secretary,

PRESIDENTS COLUMN

Like a coin has two sides, I have experienced both sweet
and bitter parts of it during my tenure as the President of
the Orators Club. As per my experience I would like to give some tips for the
upcoming Presidents of the club.

First and foremost keep in your mind and heart that leadership is an action not
a position and use the greatest combination, i.e., determination, passion and
action to work out the programmes.

Water is life, and yet, even water gets stagnant, starts stinking. So, always have
plan and keep touching with the executive members. Difficulties may be faced
in working out some problems but remember that problem is not a problem if it
is executed sincerely.

Make the fellow beings aware that the club is theirs (as many think that the club
is only for the executive members).

So far as Harmony magazine is concerned, you can work on slowly but you
should be steady. Give periodic encouragement to the friends, brothers and
sisters to emanate their hidden talent and contribute to the bringing out of the
magazine.

Last but never the least; I am thankful to them who gave me a golden
opportunity to serve and lead the club for the session 2011-12.

Yours sincerely,
Kato Docha,
President,
Orators Club

Once there was a small girl.
One fine day she got to know
that God was distributing
apples to all the men in
heaven. She was very happy
to receive the news. She
went merrily to heaven to
receive an apple from God.
On reaching heaven she saw
a big queue of people
awaiting their turn to receive
apples from God. She too
joined the queue.
After a long wait it was her
turn to receive an apple and
she stretched out her hand in
anticipation. God then gave
her an apple. However, her
tiny hands were unable to
hold the apple. As she did
not want to go back empty
handed, she turned around
and joined the long queue
once again. Waiting in a
queue she watched the
people who had received
their apples and leaving
happily. She wondered as to
why only she could not get a
grip on the apples God tried
to place in her hands. She
was worried for she did not
lose the apple once more.

Kr. Nani Nitin, Class- XA

Finally after a long wait it
was her turn.
While giving the apple God
spoke to her, My child, last
time after giving you the
apple I observed that the
apple was a rotten one and
therefore I made you drop it.
So, I wanted you to have the
best apple of all. At that time
the best apple was still
growing on the tree and so I
made you wait for a long
time. Here is an apple for
you, the very best available.
Enjoy it!
Sometimes we put our best
efforts in doing our tasks yet
the outcome is delayed or
satisfactory to our
expectation. But we must
understand that god has
something great in store for
us and therefore, theres the
delay.
We have to go on with our
lives until we strike with
something great one day
rather than giving up the last
hope, its just a matter of
time.

WHAT SUCCESS IS

Kr. Bengia Takar, Class XB

In terms of dictionary we find success
means achievement of our need. But the
great philosophers said that success is
that when you understand yourself and
led your life for some useful purpose. It
is very easy to say about the success
but hard to achieve it. Only hard work
cannot bring you success, your
determination, understanding the
situation and so on will help you to
succeed. Sitting in the classroom only
will not help you to succeed; also your
daily experience will help you. By getting
A1 you cannot say that you have
succeeded, but utilising that knowledge
for the welfare of human kind is one of
the great successes. We even cannot
say Anil Ambani, Tata and great
businessmen as successful persons,
although they are great successful
businessmen. As those businessmen
are always in fear of the loss or hazards.
A successful person is one who is free
from all tensions and leads a happy life.
Swami Vivekananda was a successful
person. Many people say Hindu is a
religion but it is not true, it helps a
person to understand about their way of
life. The great saint never said about the
religion but they said about the
enlightenment which is the greatest
success of a life. To be a successful
man, wake up every morning with new
thought and understand it and work
upon it whole day and never get
depressed while you fail, this is the
greatest key to success. Becoming a
D.C. or doctor, no one is successful, but

understanding the value and serving for
the human kind is said to be success.
To be a successful man always
remember to DO GOOD TO OTHERS
as we all know the great saying AS
YOU SOW, SO YOU REAP and
remember there is every failure that
FAILURES ARE THE PILLARS OF
SUCCESS.
BULAND DARWAZA
Kr. Pura Padu, Class 10B
Buland Darwaza or the loft
gateway was built by the great
Mughal emperor, Akbar in
1601 A.D. at Fathipur Sikri.
Akbar built the Buland
Darwaza to commemorate his
victory over Gujarat .The
Buland Darwaza is
approached by 42 steps. The
Buland Darwaza is 52-63
meters high and 35 meters
wide. Buland Darwaza is the
highest gateway in the world
and an astounding example of
the Mughal architecture .The
Buland Darwaza or the
magnificence gateway is made
of red and buff sandstones,
decorated by carving and
inlaying of white and black
marbles. An inscription on the
centre face of Buland Darwaza
throws light on Akbars
religious broad mindedness.

ZIRO
Kr. Nenker Kobing, Class XB
Ziro is the district headquarters of
Lower Subansiri district and is one of
the oldest towns in ARUNACHAL
PRADESH. It was the headquarters of
the undivided Subansiri district
comprising of the present districts of
Upper Subansiri, KurungKumey,
LowerSubansiri and PapumPare .Its
cold weather in summer season is its
major attraction. It is famous for its
pine clad gentle hills around it and rice
field all around.
Ziro is home to APATANI tribe.
Apatanis have few unique special
characteristics features which differ
from other tribes in Arunacha lPradesh
and India. Few of these characteristics
are
1. Apatanis are permanently settled in
one place.
2. Apatanis cultivate permanent wet
land cultivations.
3. Apatanis used to make facial
tattoos earlier, now they have dropped
this custom few decades back.In the
field of Education, Ziro has the highest
number of schools in Arunachal
Pradesh. There are more than
hundred private and government
schools and one college run by
Christian missionary. Ziro has an
average literacy rate of 66%, higher
than the national average of 59.5%
male literacy 72% and female literacy
60%.
Paddy cum fish culture is a practice of
rearing fish in the paddy field is one of
unique features for which Ziro is
known all over, but more than the
hallmark of Apatani agriculture is its
traditional irrigation system which has
made the paddy cum fish culture
possible though there is hardly any
gap in the agriculture calendar of the
Apatanis.
The famous Shiva Linga is also in Ziro
in Kardo. It is about 4 km away from
Hapoli town. The height of Shiva
Lingam is 25 ft 22 inch. Talley Valley
of Ziro has a diverse flora and fauna
ranging from sub-tropical to alpine
forest. It is marked by giant silver fir
trees, ferns, varieties of bamboo etc.
This biodiversity of Ziro is
approximately 32 km and makes a
perfect route for trekking.
The best time to visit Ziro, feel and be
the part of an Apatani is in the month
of January during Murung rituals, in
the month of March during Myoko
festival and from 4 to 7 July in Dree
festival. Besides these rituals and
festivals, visit during the agricultural
seasons from February to October
would be a unique experience for it is
one of its kinds in the entire world
which has even been touched by the
UN officials.
Why Only the Tiger ?
Kr. Tamo Muri, class IX A
Why, of all the animals, do we wish to
save the bravest (Tiger) and the most
beautiful (Peacock) only? Why do we
forget the sheep, goat, fish or other
animals slaughtered, fried, boiled to
satisfy mans appetite? Conservation
of birds and animals should not be
selective but serve to preserve
natures equilibrium. Primitive man
hunting for animals is understandable
because it was a question of survival,
but not modern man who has
alternatives.

Orchids of Arunachal
Pradesh
Kr. Joram Tullon, Class VIIA
Arunachal Pradesh has been blessed
by Mother Nature with its unique
geographical position and climate of
five excellent conditions for orchids. As
a result in this state more than 600
species of orchids are found. The state
has boosted many varieties of orchids
that occur naturally in diverse habitats.
Different types of orchids that are
found in Arunachal Pradesh are
Coelogyne Niteda, Dendrobium
Gibsoni, etc. Species like Dendrobium
Nobile with white and purple flowers
can be seen on the trees in the forest
along the road from Tipi to Sessa, 24
km from Tipi, as an orchid sanctuary
which abounds in a varieties of
species including the beautiful white
Coelogyne Nitiola (which grows on an
moss covered rocks), the trees borne
yellow, Cymbidium Elegans and
Dendrobium Chrysanthum (bright
yellow flowers with two dark reddish
brown blotches in the centre) which
present a magnificent sight when they
bloom. Arunachal Pradesh also has
more than 500 rare species of orchids.
Indias Greatness
India was Chinas teacher in religion and
imaginative literature and the worlds

philosophy and that she inspired
Boccaccio, Goethe, Herder,

also old Aesop.

WATER

Km. Hage Sumpi,
Class VIIIB

Water is one of the commonest things
in the world on the one hand and
certainly most valuable thing on the
other .In fact we cannot live without
water, if a man left without water, he
or she will die.

Water has no colour, taste or smell.
Sugar and salt can be dissolved in
water. If we wish to obtain absolutely
pure water, we must distil the water,
that is turn it into stem and then
condense it back into water. In order
to obtain germ free water, we must
boil the water. Many water-borne
diseases like cholera, dysentery are
due to the effect of impure drinking
water.
Water has many uses .The first use of
water is for drinking. Not only have
that, without water we cannot grow
rice, fruits etc. Even animals also need
water to live. In fact, water is needed
by all living things. If there is no
water, there is no life. As there is no
water on moon, there is no life there.
Water is used to produce electricity.
Water power is much cheaper then
steam. It is very difficult to make a list
of the uses of water in brief. Water is
our means of experience, our life. We
use moving water to run mills and
machines and also we use water to
generate power. So we should use
water judiciously and preserve for it
the next generation.

THE GATEWAY OF INDIA

Kr. Punyo Tabyo, Class 10B
One of grand and magnificent
landmarks of Mumbai is the
Gateway of India. The
Gateway of India was built to
commemorate the visit of the
British Monarch, King George
V and Queen Marry .The
gateway of India is a massive
archway on the Apollo
Bunder. The gateway of India
is one of the hot spots of
Mumbai city. For most of the
tourists and travellers, the
gateway of India is the
starting point to explore
Mumbai city. The gateway of
India was designed by the
architect, George Wittet. The
first stone of Gateway of India
was laid on March 31, 1913.
The foundation was
completed in 1920 and the
Gateway of India was formally
opened in 1924 by the tent
viceroy, Earl of Reading.
Albert Einsteins view on India:
We owe a lot to Indians who
taught us how to count,
without which no worthwhile
scientific discovery could have
been made.
FAITH AND BELIEFS
(APATANI)
Km. Duyu Unnu, Class XB
The Apatanis have a deep rooted faith in
their religion. Like other tribes they too
have their own myths regarding the
creation and the creator. There is a
general belief in one supreme God who
is considered as just, benevolent and
good. Donyi Polo is often regarded one
Supreme God representing the eternal
truth. The Apatanis concept of soul, Yalo
is that a separation of the soul and the
body takes place at the time of death.
Nelli is the name given to the village
where, as their belief, all the dead ones
go. It is held that an Apatani would live in
the Nelli as he lived on the earth. Nelli is
also the abode of many gods and spirits.
They also believe that all those who die
an inauspicious or violent death, go to
different world called Talimiko, which is
situated somewhere in the sky. The
important deities worshiped by the
Apatanis are Kiru and Kilo and they are
worshipped in the festival of Myoko. Ui-
Kasang and Nia-Kasang are the two
gods of war. It is important to note that
most of their deities are conceived as
pairs by the Apatanis and they never
invoke them single. Another Apatani
myth tells us that in the beginning there
was only water. The earth was then
created by three female deities along
with their male counterparts. These six
deities are considered to be responsible
for the creation of all the trees, birds,
animals and even the sun, the moon and
the stars. The origin of man is ascribed
to Hillo, who is believed to be the maker
of Abotani, the first ancestor of the
Apatani.

Trees

Km. Rani Hage, Class VIII B

Trees are the most precious gifts of
nature. Trees are one of the most
important components of environment.
Without trees life is impossible. Trees
help in controlling flood and preventing
global warming. They give us shelter in
summer and in rainy days. They also give
out Oxygen which is very important for
survival of mankind as well as animals.
Leaves are the food factory of the trees.
Trees are also shelter for many animals
and birds like monkey, sloth, toucan etc.

It is proved by science that trees have
feelings. It is also proved that trees bear
more fruits when sweet music is played
in front of them.

We must save trees. Saving of trees
means saving the earth and lives. There
was a movement called Chipco
movement in which people saved trees
by hugging them. Though people know
that cutting of trees affects the earth
surface, they cut trees for their personal
profits. We should plant trees as many as
we can. We should also try to save the
earth from global warming by stopping
felling of trees.

Allow Your own Inner
Light to Guide You
Kr. Nido Kalo, Class XB

There comes a time when you must
stand alone, and there will be no one
to say or force you to write assignment
or homework and give for checking.
You must know to sacrifice to achieve
your goal even if it comes to your hair
style. Be confident enough that you
wont settle for a compromise just to
get by. Appreciate yourself by allowing
yourself the opportunities to grow,
develop and find your true sense of
purpose in this life. Dont stand in
someone else shadow like many
students are used to take help of other
and cheat in examination but it should
be your sunlight that should lead the
way. Work hard at what you like to do
and try to overcome all obstacles. Pick
up some flowers and appreciate the
beauty of nature .Dont grumble that
rose has thorns but be thankful that
the thorns have roses. Try to find out a
ray of light in a dark room, then you
will feel that life is much more
wonderful than it seems.

Aerobic exercise
and Memory

Kr. Tage Yonku, class X A

We jog, we walk, and we run, all
these hitherto are just to shed our
extra pounds to keep our heart beat
intact. But here after, we can add one
more reason to the list. It is memory.
To improve our memory we must do
these aerobic exercises, says the
new study. Timothy Bussey,
behavioural neuroscientist and the
leading researcher of this study says
that running regularly doesnt just
help one shed the extra weight, it
also does wonders for the mind.
Regular jogging leads to growth of
new cells in the area of the brain
which in turn boost the memory. A
study on mice showed that aerobic
exercise triggers the growth of grey
matter known as neurogenesis. It
may be linked to increase blood flow
or higher levels of hormones that are
released while exercising. The brain
tissue study also showed that the
rodents on the wheel had grown fresh
grey matter. The tissue samples from
the dentate gyres part of the brain
showed that an average 6000 new
brain cells had been created.
Aerobic exercise, as the previous
study showed, helps people with
depression also if they exercise
regularly. It is also thought that
exercise might, in addition, reduce
stress which inhabits new brain cells
through a hormone called Cortisol. So
aerobic exercises, like anti-
depressions, encourage the growth of

Inspirations from Nature

Km. Nani Oniya , Class IX A
Nature, the store house of all ideas
and the mother of all inspirational
resources, has inspired poets,
painters, musicians and even
scientists for centuries. The beauty,
the wisdom and the ingenuity of
nature that have inspired these
distinguished people to create
masterpieces are available to each
one of us too. In the course of a river,
in the life cycle of a butterfly and
even in the tiny seed etc. Nature has
messages of inspiration.
The birth of a plant is one such
inspiring event the root and shoot
of a germinating seed exert
considerable force to burst open the
seed coat and break through the hard
ground to begin its life. Each time a
tiny seedling pushes its way through
the soil, the inspiration nature sends
us is that the roots of success are
formed through hard work.
One of the most inspiring phenomena
in nature is the transformation of a
caterpillar to a butterfly. Through the
transformation of a tiny insect that
once crawled to a brilliantly coloured
creature that can fly. Nature gently
unfolds the message: Good things
come to those who wait and inspire
us to persevere.
The next time you want to be
inspired, all you have to do is to look
deeper into the natural world and
hear the sweet messages nature
sends forth.

The Festval Of
Nyshi Tribe

Km.Bengia Amji, Class IX B

Nyokum Yullow festival is the greatest
festival of Nyshi community. Nyokum
means god mother and Yullow means
god father. Nyokum Yullow is celebrated
every year from 24
th
to 26
th
February.
This festival heralds the coming of New
Year and new generation. Nyokum
Yullow is systematically and specifically
celebrated as the pride of Nyshi
community. It is celebrated with the help
of local priest (Nyibu) and artist out of
Nyibu known as Bhu. The Nyibu is the
most prominent person in Nyokum
Yullow festival. He prays and calls out the
names of God and Goddess. Our God is
Polo (Moon) and Goddess is Doni (Sun).
We pray in the temple (Nyidu Banlaw).
The priest prays to God wearing Duph
(hat made of bamboo) and Mayab (eagle
feathers) on the head. Duph and Mayab
are vital in this festival. People make
Yugang where animals like Mithun are
sacrificed. The priest prays to God on the
behalf of all the people and then a
Mithun and chickens are sacrifieced in
the name of God to maintain peace for
the coming generation with good
cultivation, rain as well as to protect
themselves from enemies, evil spirits and
natural calamities.
Women and girls dance to Pada and
Jinjam Yami wearing traditional songs
like Rikam traditional attire. Thus the
festival is celebrated with pomp and
show to consolidate Nyshi tradition and
culture every year among Nyshi people.

Child Living with
Crocodile
Km. Nani Oniya,
Class IXA
You may choose to believe it or
not, but its true! A four year-
old girl, Rita has been living
with crocodile in their cage
from her birth, her parents,
Magarita Tarantina and Sugey
Tarantina, are basically animal
trainers. Shortly before Ritas
birth, the couple received
Misha and Masha, two
crocodiles. So, they decided to
raise them along with their
child and did so successfully!
Since the crocodile and Rita
have been together since birth,
they dont look at one another
as food source.
According to his father,
crocodiles are brutal
predators, but the reptile
understands that Rita is just a
child and they must not hurt
her. The four years girl Rita has
lived with the crocodile, but
they have never harmed her.
It is only those who
persevere to the
end that succeed.

SUCCESS
Kr. Tamo Bakhang
Ex Student
The meaning of the word success
varies from person to person. To
some people success might mean
wealth, to other it is recognition, a
good family, happiness,
satisfaction and peace of mind.
What this really tells us is that
success is subjective. But the best
definition I prefer is:
Success is the progressive
realisation of a worthy goal.
Lets look at these definitions
carefully.
Progressive means that success
is a journey, not a destination we
never arrive at. After reaching one
goal, we go on to next and the next
and so on.
Realisation means an
experience. Outside forces cannot
make us feel successful. We have
to feel it within ourselves. It is
internal not external. That is why
what often appears as success
externally may be total hollowness
within.
Worthiness refers to our value
system without which goals can be
unworthy. Which way are we
heading? Towards positive or
negative goals? Worthiness
determines the quality of the
journey. Goals are important
because they give us a sense of
direction.
So, we need to keep our mind on
what we want, not on what dont
want. Success is not an accident.
It is the result of our attitude and
our attitude is a choice. Hence
success is a matter of choice and
not chance.
Most crackpots keep waiting for a
jackpot. But that strategy rarely
brings success. The common man
seeks security whereas the
uncommon man seeks opportunity.
Successful people dont do great
things; they do small things in a
great way.
Then, do we have what it takes to
be successful? Do all of us have
the qualities for success? Some
people feel they dont. They stay
mediocre and fail. But it doesnt
have to be that way. All of us
possess qualities to be successful.
The qualities may not be developed
to the level that you want them to
be, but they are there. We may not
know that they are there but when
we find out, our performance will
change.
Every success story is also a story
of great failures. If we study the
history, we will find that all stories
of success are also stories of great
failures. But people dont see the
failures. They only see the end
result and they think that the
person got lucky. Let me share a
famous life history of a man with
you. He was a man, who failed in
business at the age of 21, was
defeated in a legislative race at 22,
failed again in business at 24, and
had his sweet heart die when he
was 26, had a nervous breakdown
at 27, lost a congressional race at
34, lost a senatorial race at 45,
failed in an effort to become vice
president at 49 and was elected
the President of the United States
of America at the age of 52. He

Harmony

Page | 10

was none other than Abraham
Lincoln.
Would you call Lincoln a failure?
He would have quit, hung his head
in shame, and gone back to his law
practice. But to Lincoln, defeat
was a detour, not a dead end.
Success doesnt mean the
absence of failures; it means the
attainment of ultimate objectives.
It means winning the war, not
every battle.
Edwin C. Blis
Also, winners are gracious. They
never brag about themselves, they
respect and appreciate their team
members and opponents. Many
people know how to be successful.
But very few know how to handle
success.
Why dont people achieve success?
The big reason is the lack of vision
or limited vision. We need to dream
beyond what is possible.
Everything that we see today was
a dream before it became reality.
Live with enthusiasm, direction
and sense of purpose. Do we have
a dream? What is our dream? Are
we getting closer to our purpose
that we live every day? You should
always ask these questions
ourselves. Dont listen to living
failures. They will give you faulty
advice on how to succeed. Instead
get your advice from successful
people.

Eye To Eye Increase
Level Of Oxytocin!!

Kr. Tapson Gab, Class-10A

There is no dearth of hormones
rushing through our bodies, trying to
accomplish different tasks at a time.
There are certain hormones that
elicit sadness and emotions. Others
cause elation. Some are realised
during the excitement and fear, other
gush forth when we are in pain .Thus
the human body is flooded with a
lock tail of hormones, some of which
are responsible for the various
intense emotions one fees when one
is in love.
Oxytocin is the most potent of them
all and has been known to help
maintain healthy psychological
boundaries and interpersonal among
individuals .Moreover, this hormone
(also known as pitocin), is realised
from the posterior pituitary gland
also aids lactation in mothers and
uterine contraction during birth.
Research has shown that women with
higher level of oxytocin better show
changes of bonding with other as
compared to those with lower level of
the hormones.
IT IS LIFE TO DO GOOD; IT IS
DEATH NOT TO DO GOOD TO

An Incident

AnilKumar. S.
Teacher (Mathematics)
It was very cold on that day on which
we celebrated Swamilis birthday i.e.,
National Youth day. It was January 12
in VKV, Ziro, a very auspicious day for
all VKVS. As our students were at their
home, owing to the winter vacation, we
teachers celebrated Vivekananda
Jayanti in VKV, Raga. Four teachers
from our school attended the
programme at Raga. In our team, Sri
Dhan Bo Sir, Sri RudraPrasad
Upadhyay Sir, Sri Nishikant Patak Sir,
Sri Jogan Bhaiya sri Sambyo Bhaiya
and I (Anil Kumar), were there. We
started from Ziro at 7 oclock in the
morning and reached there at around
10 O' clock. The programme started at
10. 30 a.m. in which Smt. Nido Marina,
wife of Sri Nido Pavitra , MLA of Raga
constituency, was the chief guest . Our
small kids of VKV Raga presented
some magnificent cultural programmes
and the chief guest and other dignities
spoke on the occasion. After the
programme there was a delicious feast
from the side of the chief guest at
circuit house at Raga. There we had
our lunch and returned to Ziro at
around 2 p.m. We saw the milestone on
the way showing that Ziro is around 60
km from there. Our teachers were
enjoying all along the way by making
jokes, talking, singing and so on.
Minutes were passing and we saw the
distance now still 34 km to Ziro. We
had crossed Tamin Basti till then. On
the way we saw some of our students'
houses. When we had travelled about
31 km from Raga, we saw one person
on the way showing a signal to stop the
vehicle. Sambyo Bhaiya stopped our
vehicle near that man. By seeing him
Bhaiya told us that he knew that man,
who was the Manager of Apex Bank,
Hapoli. The Manager told us that he
was not able to start his car and
requested Sambiyo Bhaiya to make it
start. We all got down and Bhaiya tried
to start the car. But he could not. There
was no network in any of our mobiles.
The man was saying how it happened
he didn't know. He was coming from
Daporijo with his wife with a little high
speed so that they could attend a
meeting at Ziro. He said that the car
stopped suddenly and further he could
not start the vehicle. Our Dhan Bo Sir
told his opinion that the passage of
diesel might be stopped there. At last
everybody concluded that the car
cannot be started by anyone of us.
Then our Upadhyay Sir put forward a
suggestion that we should not leave
those couple on the way and we should
tie the car to our vehicle and pull it
along the way. Everybody agreed to it
and we thought of how to tie it. We had
a thin plastic rope with us which was
used for tying materials in the vehicle.
Any way we tied it to our vehicle. The
manager sat on his driver seat in his
car and he was following us without
actually starting the car but 'driving'
very carefully. Hardly we travelled one
kilometre then the bond broke and
again we had to stop and started to tie
it .There was no house nearby and no
vehicles were seen passing by that way
at that time. This time our thin rope was
not sufficient and we wished to get a
new rope. Some of us suggested that
we can do the work with any rope
unless a shop is seen where we could
buy one steel wire. At that time one of
our parents passed that way and he
stopped his car seeing us. He also tried
to start the car but failed. He gave a
suggestion that the car could be pulled
by using stem climbers which were
available in the jungle. We all tried to

Harmony

Page | 12

get a thing like that. At last Dhan Bo Sir
found a long and thick stem of climber
among the forest. The parent said that
he would give his sword to cut it. Then
the manager told that he also carried
one sword with him and he would give.
Immediately he took out his sword from
the car. It was a small sword .It could
not be called sword. I thought of the
people here realised the purpose of
carrying sword also in their journey.
With the sword Dhan Bo Sir climbed up
the bush and cut the climber. By seeing
Bo Sir's action, the parent told us that
this sir must be an ex-VKV student.
After that the parent left us saying that
he had to reach home early with his
family and children in the cold climate.
While going he reminded Sambyo
Bhaiya not to leave the family in this
jungle and at any cost bring them
home. He also said that Sambyo could
do that and he would do. By hearing
these words we all felt that we were
doing a good job and we would make
them safe as long as we could. I saw
Dhan Bo Sir was trying to remove the
ants which were biting him on his
attempt to cut the climber. Our second
attempt to tie the car almost became
successful. Again we started our
journey with a little relief. But this time
also the journey did not last too long.
Again after less than one kilometre the
tie was broken for the second time. At
that time we saw one bamboo garden
nearby and Upadhyay Sir had an idea
to tie this time with bamboo shaping it
like thread. So Jogan Bhaiya ran to a
bamboo garden and cut a long
immature bamboo from it and it was
made into rope using a stone by Dhan
Bo Sir. By seeing us tying the car with
bamboo rope, one pedestrian, an old
man commented openly that it would
not work, and suggested us procure
one steel wire from nearby house and
then only we could move easily. We all
were aware that the technique would
not work, but we were just managing
the situation. We could have come
ignoring the person saying that we had
no authority to help him because we
are VKV workers and we had to reach
the school early otherwise the authority
would question us for coming late. But
we all unanimously decided to help
them whatever might happen later.. We
thought that it is our duty to help the
helpless people with whatever help we
can do.
The bamboo tie also was broken soon.
This was the third break in this attempt.
Each time of the break in the tie I
counted. Patak Sir and I were laughing
by counting the number of times it was
breaking. But internally we were feeling
anxious about our journey. We thought
of the mentality of the manager and his
wife. This time when the vehicle
stopped, the manager started in search
of a steel wire in a village nearby.
Upadhyay Sir and Dhan Bo Sir also
started searching for a wire.
I came out of the vehicle. I saw a
stream was flowing down not caring
the incidents on the road. The sound of
the stream was like approaching rain.
Some vehicles passed, many
pedestrianss passed by seeing the car
tied to a Bolero with bamboo rope.
Birds were flying with different sounds.
I thought they were also talking about
our situation. We spent at least 15
minutes there, then the manager
managed a steel wire somehow and
Sambyo Bhaiya tied the vehicles
together with steel wire. This time I
thought the duration of our journey will
be more. We started our journey for the
fourth time after the break. We stopped
for Upadhyay Sir and Dhan Bo Sir who
were still in the search of wire. We saw
them talking in front of a house. They
also procured a wire which was
stronger than the earlier. But the owner
agreed to give it only on payment. Our
teachers were also ready to give money
from their own pockets. But the
manager himself came out and gave
money and bought the wire. This time
we thought we could run smoothly with
the strong wire. But the earlier wire
broke due to the speed breakers on the
road and it was for the fourth time. This
time we tied with the strongest wire
along with the weak one. But

Harmony

Page | 13

unfortunately the wire broke total
seven times at a row during the
journey. Our Sambyo Bhaiya was
driving very carefully and showing
signals to the vehicles coming from
opposite direction. Upadhyay Sir was
giving instructions to Sambyo Bhaiya
to give signals, to drive slowly and
carefully etc. Dhan Bo Sir was always
looking back to see the condition of the
car.
At last we reached Pine Grove still 5
kilometres to Ziro. Then network came
on the BSNL phone and Principal Sir
called Upadhyay sir and enquired
about our condition. By hearing the
story, our principal Sir appreciated us
saying that we were doing a good job.
The manager had to go to School gate,
Hapoli. We were just crossing the
GREF, suddenly the tie was broken for
the ninth time and we saw the car was
dropped behind us at some distance. It
was dark at that time. The time was
around 6 oclock in the evening.
Outside it was very cold. The
atmosphere was fully covered with mist
and drops of mist could be seen falling
down. Soon Dhan Bo sir noticed smoke
coming out of the car. It was mainly
from both the front wheels. I thought
whether the car was about to blast.
Then one man who knows the manager
came from behind us by his car and
stopped near us to enquire. He asked
him what happened in Apatani dialect.
Then he told that the smoke was due to
continuous work of the hand break.
The manager was very carefully
applying hand break earlier so that he
should not hit with our vehicle. He also
assured us that there was nothing to
worry and we could proceed slowly.
Thus we started after eighth break and
very unfortunately it happened for the
ninth time also. This time the manager
found out that his breaks were not
working and we all decided that the car
could be kept on the side of the road.
At least we reached near Ziro. Now they
could go home and come back
afterwards with a car mechanic. Thus
they left the car locked near the GREF
and we took them in our vehicle to their
home and dropped them at school
gate. The couple were very happy and
relieved. They told us that if we did not
come and rescue them they would have
stayed in the jungle. They thanked us a
lot. We told that it might happen to
anybody. Tomorrow we also might be
in trouble. So somebody might help us,
some may not. But as human we
should help. This is what Swamiji has
taught us. So we do our best to help
the needy people. The manager told
that he had heard many things about
VKV workers helping spirit and he
recollected his contribution to the
construction of the Rock Memorial.
Upadhyay Sir told us that the manager
might be thinking that his contribution
to VKV was now fruitful as Swamiji sent
his emissaries in the form his sons.
Now I feel proud of myself being one of
the sons of Swami Vivekananda. I
dedicate this incident as a tribute to
Swamiji on his birthday. Finally I would
like to convey a message to my dear
children that they should think about
the helpless people around us and do
whatever they can do for them and thus
render service to our motherland.

Science
Km. Kago Oniya, Class 7B

Science is the most important
part of our life. Today science has
changed our lives; it has brought
comfort to our lvese. Science is
divided into three parts (1)
PHYSICS (2) CHEMISTRY (3)
BIOLOGY.
Today we so many things are
available because of science. In
house we utilize T.V., telephone,
light, mobile, computer etc. In
winter we use heater and in
summer we use fan, air
conditioner, refrigerator, cooler
and many which are all gifts of
science.
When want to meet our relatives
we travel by buses, trains, taxies
aeroplanes etc. These all are made
by science. Now a days, there are
medicines which can cure diseases
like cancer, TB and many other
.These all are possible only
because of science.
Today when we want to watch TV
or listen to music or news we can
go to computer and fulfil our
desire. Today in this modern era
we can do so many things in
computer like internet and
through internet we can make
relationship with the outside
world. In fact, the whole world is
made of science.

GLOBAL WARMING

Km. Nani Anyung, Class VIII A
The phrase global warming refers
to the documented historical
warming of the earths surface
based on worldwide temperature
records that have been maintained
by humans since 1880s. The term
global warming is often used
synonymously with the term
climate change, but the two terms
have distinct meanings. Global
warming is the combined result of
human caused emission of green
house gases and changes in solar
irradiance, while climate change
refers to any change in the state of
the climate that can be identified
by changes in the average of its
properties and that persists for an
extended period, typically deadly
or longer.
Solutions for Global
Warming
Km. Nenker Oniya,Class IX A
There are solutions for global
warming available to us today
and its time we put them to use.
The solutions will reduce the
amount of heat trapping gases
that we emit into the atmosphere.
Among the solutions are ways of
reducing the amount of fossil
fuels we use to power our
vehicles and generate our
electricity and protecting
threatened forests which store
carbon in their biomass.

THREE FRIENDS

Kr. Gida Mama, Class IX A

There were three friends Egg,
Butter and Chilli (the colour of Chilli
was red). One day they decided to
go for a picnic. They decided to
bring food from their homes and
share with one another.
The next day they went to the
forest. It was sunny day and so
Butter melted. But Egg and Chilli
kept on going. When they reached
the picnic spot they saw some bulls
grazing at the field. Chilli became
afraid and ran away. Seeing this Egg
became so happy thinking that he
would eat all the food and jumped
and fell on a piece of stone to break
himself.

Tiger, The Royal Big
Cat

Km. Mepi Timba, Class IX A

There are eight subspecies of tiger,
three of which became extinct in the
last century. All of the remaining
surviving species are endangered
mainly because of clearing off forests
and illegal hunting. Thousands of
tigers lived in one country but by 2008
there were just a few hundred left! A
magnificent animal, the tiger is the
national animal of India and it is up to
us to help save it. Lets save our
planet, who knows how much time we
have. So lets start now.

Why Do We Need Air ?

Km. Bengia Nayung, Class VI A
Air is a mixture of several different
gases. The main gases in air are
Nitrogen, Oxygen and Argon. Air also
contains smaller amount of Hydrogen,
Carbon dioxide, water vapour, Helium
and other gases. Oxygen is the most
important gas for animals. Animals
must breathe Oxygen in order to live.
Carbon dioxide is the most important
gas for plants. Plans use Carbon
dioxide and sunlight to make food.
Plants give up Oxygen and animals
take it.

THE MYSTERY OF
DEATH
Km. Nangram Meju, Class - XB
The house of Rima was crowded. There
was a lot of noise. Inside the house her
mother was mourning for her death. The
priest told them that it was useless to
admit her sister, Neetu in hospital as she
was a victim of a dead person. Rimas
father was very much worried. Neetu was
shouting, laughing and sometime crying
and talking to herself. She was becoming
insane and this made father more
worried. He asked the priest to perform
some pujas for scaring and dispelling the
ghost. The priest did some pujas and
asked the ghost to leave Neetus body.
Who are you? said the priest to the
ghost.
After a few minutes the answer came that
it was Rima. Her voice was some what a
pity one. I have come to make everything
right said she.
Her family was greatly shocked. Her father
asked, O Rima! Why have you left us? I
wont spare your friends if they are the
culprits.
She looked up and said, No father, it was
not my friends who killed. It was I who
killed myself.
I have entered my sisters body to let you
all know about the truth. I dont want that
any innocent should die because of me.
Please dont take their parents to the
court. Otherwise I will never be in peace.
This is the work I have come to do. Then
she began to narrate her story.
The day was cloudy and somewhat
spooky. Everywhere there was fog. I along
with my five friends, Bunty, Gori, Chinu,
Chetan and Cutie were sitting near
fireplace warming ourselves. Little later I
stood up and said to them, Why dont we
play hide seek to keep ourselves warm
and entertain as well. They looked at me
with surprise but at last agreed.

Why didnt this idea come earlier? Come
lets start, said Chetan. Then he flicked
his hand. Everyone caught sight of it and
began to hide themselves.
I searched every nook and corner for a
place to hide myself. At first I went to the
storeroom. It was covered with cobweb. I
cleared it and found a trunk big enough
for me to get inside it. So I hid myself
inside it but kept little open with the help
of its hook.
Chinu started searching and found all one
by one except me. All of them searched
for me. But, alas! They could not find me. I
grinned at myself for choosing the best
place to hide.
After sometime I heard a gust of chill wind
blowing. It was becoming difficult for me
to breathe. So I wanted to open the trunk
and tried only to realise that it was stuck
from outside. I was trapped inside the
trunk. Suddenly I felt creepy in my heart
and chill running around me. I cried for
help, struggling to open the trunk and
keep my soul and body together. I did
everything to open the trunk. But it was
useless.
The people near present there were
speechless after hearing how helplessly
Rima embraced tragic death. Breaking the
silence her sister cried in a shrill voice and
began to shiver as if someone were
shaking her and suddenly fainted.
There was silence everywhere. Everything
was normal when little later Neetu woke
up.
The family and the people present there
saw the soul of Rima going away from
them flying up in the air who waved at it
until it vanished into the atmosphere.

SAMAR, THE WRONG
GHOST
Kr. Hage Ropo, Class XB

Once upon a time a boy called Samar was
brutally murdered in a big hotel room in
Plizma by some people. After that
incident no one dared to live in that
room. But it was always kept clean. After
nearly one year, in the month of
December, a wedding ceremony was
going to take place in Plizma. The
bridegroom was from another place
called Digsa. So the bridegrooms family
had to hold in Plizma. Unaware of the
past incident they decided to stay in the
same hotel room with where Samar was
murdered. In the first night nothing
happened. So they were very happy
there. On the second day the family went
to meet the bride and her parents. The
grooms little sister was left alone as they
were to return late at night. When the
grooms little sister was writing her diary
in the drawing room her dog barked at
something above the door. She thought
the dog was barking at some insects or
something else! When she looked up the
door she saw something translucent like
object. The dog didnt stop barking. She
was frightened as the electric bulb

started flickering. When she looked into
the common room electricity it was
alright. Then suddenly power went out.
So she jumped on the sofa and covered
herself with a shawl. Some freaky thing
touched her fingers and she felt some
sort of electric shock. She cried and
rushed out as she was greatly afraid. She
cried for help but nobody heard her. She
just kept running. When she was on the
road, she saw a boy. Approaching him
she asked who he was. The boy said
nothing. When he turned towards her
she saw that he had no eyes and was
bald. The boy touched her hands and
held them very hard. She tried to free her
hands but the boy didnt let her go. At
that time she saw her parents returning
by a car and heaved a sigh of relief and
cried for help when the boy disappeared
into the darkness. When she told about
what she underwent her parents and
brothers were not ready to believe it.
Anyway they decided to stay one more
night and see what really it was.
In the third night nothing happened till
10.00 p.m. when after that the grooms
brother Tom saw something. When he
switched on the light there was nothing.
But after a second all were seen
trembling in panic as they saw the same
horrifying figure which made them to
rush out of the hotel room. When they
were going to open the door they all saw
writing on the door in blood: I DONT
WANT TO HURT U. THE THING IS THAT I
THOUGHT U WERE THOSE PEOPLE WHO
KILLED ME. I MEAN MY FAMILY. JUST
DONT BE AFRAID. But they were really
panic stricken. So they picked up their
luggage and went away from the hotel
informing the manager of the hotel.
The family had passed so many years but
still the spirit of the boy haunted them
they encountered whenever they
remembered the same.

THE MYSTERIOUS NIGHT
Kr. Narang Guro, Class XB
It was the time of Myoko festival, the
enjoyable festival celebrated in Apatani
society in Ziro valley when antique
friends and other visitors from all other
villages visit their friends and enjoy at
night time singing, dancing which creates
huge noise but merry one.
Rambia, a student of tenth standard was
getting prepared himself for his forth
coming examination. He had his newly
built study room little far from the main
house and the other nearby houses so
that he could prevent from disturbances
while studying.
It was about 10.15 p.m. There was no
power in that area. So Rambia lighted a
candle and started reading. After a few
minutes, suddenly he heard a knock on
the door. Rambia thought it was Siira, his
classmate who used to sleep in his room
at night.
Come in. I havent bolted the door, said
Rambia. But there was no answer from
outside. There was deadly silence for a
minute. Again there was knocking. This
time it was greater which made Rambia
angry. Dont hear the door is open?
said Rambia rudely and rushed towards
the door but found nobody when opened
the door. He thought for a while and
realised that Siira might be playing prank
on him. He also thought of playing a
game with him and bolted the door from
inside waiting for the next knocking. But
there was no such thing he expected.
Instead there was a devilish laughter
near his door after a few moments which
he couldnt bear. So he opened the door
as fast as he could. But he couldnt see
any sign of his friend. Being greatly
disgusted and upset with his friend he
headed to his friends house after
blowing off the candle.
When he reached Siiras house he found
that Siira was taking dinner. Within no
time looking at Siiras face he just started
scolding Siira for the disturbance he
made. Smiling Siira answered that he was
in his house for the last two hours and
started his dinner just 10 minutes bfore.
This made Rmabia angrier as he thought
Siira was telling him a lie. But Siiras
mother was a witness for Siira.
At last he remembered his friends
and elders told him that there was
an evil spirit that could not rest in
peace and used to create problems
for people. From that day onwards
Rambia believes that there could
also be God, if there were ghost
and a person cannot be tempted by
both because evil and good cannot
live together.
RAMLALS WIT

One day Ramlal, a school teacher was on
his way home. He went through a thick
forest. On his way he suddenly met some
robbers. The robbers took Ramlal to their
hideout where their leader was sitting.
Ramlal requested the leader to set him
free. The leader agreed but he gave him a
condition. The leader gave Ramlal a
cabbage and told, if you can tell me the
exact weight of the cabbage by just
looking at it, I will set you free, but if you
fail, I will cut your head. Ramlal was a
clever man. He thought for a while and
told that the weight of the cabbage was
exactly the weight of the head of the
leader. The leader got shocked and asked
for a proof. At this Ramlal told the leader
that if he wanted proof he should cut off
his head and weigh with the cabbage. The
leader was impressed by Ramlals
cleverness, so he set him free.

Nobody knew why his father left
him and her mother alone, so John
hated his father very much.
One night he had a dream, a man
came to him and asked him why he
hated his father so much, and told
him that he had reason to leave him
and his mother. Next day he told his
mother about the dream, his
mother guessed that it was Johns
father and started to tell about
Johns father that he was handsome
and had good job and left them
before Johns birth and told John
that after his birth a lawyer came
and gave a paper and told that
Johns father gave all his property to
John. John asked his mother where
his father was but did not get the
answer. He asked his mother who
could give this answer, his mother
told him that his father had a very
good friend named Tomy and told
him that Tomy was in London who
might know the answer.
So John left for London taking
Tomys address. After reaching
Tomys house and asking about his
father he could know that actually
his father was suffering from
cancer, and as he did not want to
tell Johns mother he left home
giving all his property to John, and
now he could not find his father as
he was dead Hearing this he
thought himself to be very selfish to
hate his own father for his own
sake. And at night back home he
told everything to his mother who
no hated his father but had only
ocean of love for him.

The Clever Pigeon

Kr.Tasso Dodung, Class 8B

A flock of pigeons were flying over a
beautiful grove. They were enchanted by the
greenery below. Suddenly they spotted a lot
of grains scattered under a tree. It looked
very fresh and delicious, so they swooped
down and started eating it.
Busy eating the grains, the birds did not
notice the net; a hunter had already cast the
trap. Ah! Its my lucky day, today. There are
so many birds! The hunter thought. After
feasting on the grains, when the pigeon
flapped their wings to fly they could not
move. Their claws were entangled in the net.
They cried out for help but no one came for
their rescue. Soon the hunter will come and
kill us! they wept in despair.
The leader of the flock was old & wise. He
advised, Dont cry and listen to me carefully
.. Everyone flap your wings together and
try to fly at the same time. The birds obeyed
and soon found themselves high up in the
air.
And the net! Well, up it went with them
that was indeed array sight. The hunter was
dump founded at the sight. He shouted at
them to bring back his net, but the birds
were safely away from his reach.
Now the birds had to rid themselves off the
net. Their leader led them to a rats hole
remembering that he had earlier promised to
help. Reaching near the hole the leader cried
out, Dear friend, we need your help. Please
free us from this net. The rat willingly
nibbled away the string with his sharp teeth
and soon the pigeon were vowed to be
united always, especially in times of need.

LITTLE BOY
LEARNT FROM HIS
FATHER

Once upon a time one little boy lived
in a town. His name was Binkom. One
day Binkom and his little brother were
playing in the field. They played
together every game. In that evening
Binkom brought a new game which he
did not want to play with his brother.
But his brother wanted to play the game
with Binkom. His brother started crying
and told his father. Binkoms father
called Binkom and said, Why are you
not playing with your little brother? If
you dont play with your brother who
will play? and scolded him when
Binkom was adamant not to play with
his brother. Binkom got angry and he
said to his father that he would not
listen to him at any cost. At that his
father got angry and beat him. After
supper his father told him very lovingly
that Binkom should listen to his parents
and elders and love his brother. His
father also told him moral values and
many stories with moral lessons which
made Binkom to repent his mistake. So
Binkom promised his father to be a very
good boy and person in the near future.
He also realized that whatever his father
said to him was because he loved him
very much and told us to go on right
way, not to go on wrong way. Thus, the
little boy, Binkom had learnt something
in his life from his father.

Moral: - When someone beats you or
says something to you dont be angry,
just listen, you may learn something
from that.

Power of Patience
and Faith

Kr. Ngilyang Jorjo, class VIII B

Once there was a boy whose name
was Abhay. He was very sincere and
pious but he did not have patience.
One day he had taken a pledge that he
would sit for meditation and seek the
blessing of Lord Shiva. So he went into
the forest and sat in front of Lord
Shivas idol in a temple made by the
adivasi of that forest. He meditated so
sincerely that it touched the heart of
Lord Shiva. But Lord Shiva wanted to
test his patience. So after 11 days had
passed also Lord Shiva did not appear
in front of him and did not bless him.
The boy was very angry and lost his
patience. He started demolishing the
temple. At that time an old man saw
him and asked him the reason of his
act. The boy narrated the story. Having
listened to the boys story the old man
told him that he had also done the
same mistake 30 years ago and told
him to have patience and believe in
God and good deeds done by him. .
Moral: Have patience and faith.

My Last Day at School
Km. Narang Asha, Class XB
In every school there is a tradition
that the junior students give
farewell party to the seniors that is
out going students. In the same way
in our VKV, Ziro, every year the
students of class IX give a farewell
party to class X students who are
going to depart from the school.
Although leaving ones school is
always sad yet, the last day in the
school is a memorable occasion for
the students who are about to leave.
This day is definitely a sad day for
those who are supposed to leave but
the same time it is full of hopes as
they are going to enter into a new
and greater world which takes them
close to their goals.
On this very day both the students
and the teachers become emotional.
The students ask for forgiveness if
they had been rude to their teachers
during their teaching in the classes.
The teachers bless students and
wish them a prosperous and bright
future. The students take away the
sweet memory of their school days.
Such was also my last day at the
school where I had studied for
nearly 8 years. The programme was
to be organized by the students of
class IX. We reached the school at 9
.30a.m. and the programme was
started at 10.00 a.m. We had been
asked to arrive at the school half an
hour before the actual time. The
students of class IX decorated the
school with balloons beautifully and
small stage was also made. On the
stage were our honourable Principal

Sir and the teachers and all the
students sitting on carpets spread
on the floor. First of all we
assembled for a group photograph
which was followed by lighting of
the lamp by our Principal Sir and
invocation. After this a few items of
cultural programme like songs,
dance and drama were performed.
There were certain students of both
classes IX and X who gave us
melodious and heart touching songs.
After the cultural programme was
over the monitor of class IX gave a
heart touching farewell speech
which was followed by the outgoing
students brief speech of their
experiences. After this our
respectable teachers who imparted
priceless lessons in us blessed us one
by one. They also gave brief speech
but highly valuable.
At the end our Principal Sir gave us
his blessings in his inspiring and
memorable speech. He suggested us
to work hard in life and dedicate
ourselves to the building of our
carrier. He also advised us to lead a
disciplined and honest life. He also
wished us a very successful life in
the future. His speech was really
very thought provoking. All the
students clapped when he finished
his speech. After the speech we were
served with tea, biscuits and cakes.
It was a wonderful party which
everyone liked. Thus the school has
been organising this programme
since 2009. This was my last day at
school which was indeed a
memorable one that we would
cherish throughout our life.

THE TWO SISTERS

Km. Yumlam Yani, Class XB
There were two sisters, the elder
ones name was Yami and the younger
ones was Yasi. They had two elder
brothers named Tashi and Tallo.
Four of them were living along with
their parents in a village. The two
brothers were very hard working and
they toiled to fulfil their needs. The
two sisters helped them in their
work. Yami and Yasi worked in paddy
fields whereas both the brothers
went to the jungle to look after
their Mithuns. Compared to the
younger one the elder sister was
mentally weak and ill. On the other
hand the younger sister was very
talented. Anyway they were living
happily. But one day everything
changed. The two brothers went to
Taksang (a place between Arunachal
Pradesh and China) to bring
ornaments. It was believed that
when people used to go to Taksang
they would take with them materials
like skin of animals, carpet and many
other things to exchange them with
the ornaments of the people of
Taksang they needed. When the two
brothers were about to set out their
journey Yasi and Yami were so
obstinate to go with them. Both the
brothers told them that they could
not go with them as there would be
no one to take care of their parents.
But Yasi and Yami did not listen
anything. Seeing their eagerness to
go with them Tashi told them that if
they went with them they must not

Harmony

Page | 28

say anything when they would be
passing through the jungle. Both the
sisters promised to their brothers
that they would keep mum while
passing through the jungle. Finally
they started their journey. Yami and
Yasi were very happy and excited to
go to Taksang because they were
going there for the first time.
They took many things with them to
exchange there along with sufficient
food. In the beginning of the
journey everything was alright. But
when they reached the jungle Yami
started talking and said that the
beautiful flowers were her. After
seeing this Yasi also said that the
most beautiful birds and animals of
that jungle were her and her
parents. Then Tashi and Tallo
scolded both of them and strongly
asked them not to say anything
about the place because it was
believed that the jungle was owned
by the ghosts and evil spirits and
they didnt share their property with
anybody. If somebody said anything
they might do something bad to
them. But the two sisters didnt
listen anything of their brothers.
Tashi and Tallo were very angry with
them for that. Any way after five
days, they reached Taksang and
exchanged their things with the
ornaments of the people of Taksang.
After having exchanged their goods,
they started their journey back to
their home. This time also the
brothers told their sisters not to
say anything about the jungle. The
two sisters obeyed their brothers
words. But when they were walking
through the jungle the younger
sister told them that she was very
tired. So they took rest at a place.
The two sisters were sitting on the
roots of a big tree when their
brothers were little far from them.
When they were taking rest the
branches and the roots of the tree
started trapping both Yami and Yasi.
The two sisters were crying out for
help. Seeing this brothers rushed
towards them and started cutting
the branches and the roots with
their swords to rescue their sisters
and succeded in that. Then they
went away from the place and after
few hours they again rested at a
place. This time Yasi and Yami sat on
a rock. Tashi and Tallo were sitting
by their side and they were taking
food. Suddenly the nearby rock
started engulfing both Yasi and
Yami. Unfortunately the two
brothers, this time, could not save
their sisters. Tashi and Tallo tried
to push the rock but it could not be
moved. They tried with their swords
but the swords broke into pieces.
Before the rock engulfed Yami and
Yasi completely they told their
brothers to tell their parents after
taking food before they said
anything. Both the brothers agreed
to do so. Before leaving Tashi gave
his arrow, bamboo basket, sword,
walking stick and all other things
they had to Yami. After that the
two sisters were completely covered
with the rock. When this happened
there was lightning in the sky and

Harmony

Page | 29

heavy rain fall accompanied by
storm. When the two brothers
reached home their parents were
very happy to see them. When they
did not see their daughters they
asked about them .But Tashi and
Tallo did not give any reply. They
just gave rice to their parents and
sat down to eat. While eating, their
parents again asked about their
daughters. This time Tashi and Tallo
had to narrate the story. After they
had heard the story blood started
coming out from the nose, eyes,
mouth and ears of the parents. As a
result they died on the spot. The
two brothers were very sad to see
that who narrated the story to the
villagers.
And till now nobody knows what
happened to Tashi and Tallo. It is
said that from far away both the
sisters are seen wearing traditional
dress with ornaments, arrow and
sword and bamboo basket whenever
people pass through that place. The
passersby are used to keep
something on the rock for the two
sisters. Based on this story many
plays have been dramatised but
whoever had taken the rule of the
two sisters had been dead in
accident or because of some illness.
So it remains a mystery which is still
unsolved and waiting to be
unravelled.

Logic in Daily Life
Kr. Danny Sindhu, Class VIIIB
When we were kids we learnt not to
touch a cup of hot tea. If I touch a
hot thing, I may get burnt. This is the
logic we learn by making mistakes
once, twice or thrice or from elders
around us. As we grow up our food
intake increases. If Im growing, I will
need more food. As we go to school
and college for education, we learn
more about the principle of life. If I
work hard, I will succeed. So, hard
work implies success.
There are representations for such
rules as follows:
If character is lost, everything is lost.
You behave badly with people, people
behave badly with you.
Sow well and reap well.

Joke
A drunken man on telephone:
Hello, police! Please come
immediately. Someone has stolen
the steering wheel, ditch breaker
and accelerator from my car.
Two minutes later, after he had
rushed out to his car. Hello, police.
Its all right. I was sitting in the back

The Lady
Kr. Chukhu Naka, Class IX B

Once, a lady was travelling from
Luknow to Mumbai who reached
Lucknow station half an hour
earlier. She bought some magazines
and cookies at the station to pass
the half an hour time and put the
magazines in her bag except one for
reading it. She took a bench and sat
down to read the magazine. At the
time she saw an old man coming
who sat down on the same bench
beside her. She took up one cookie
that was kept on the bench and ate
it when she saw that the old man
was also eating one cookie. Then
she took another. The man also
followed her eating one more
cookie at which she got irritated.
She again took one cookie and the
man repeated the same. She
became more irritated and was
cursing the old man in her mind.
This happened again and again.
Finally she could not bear her anger
anymore and stood up and started
scolding the old man without giving
him any chance to apologize. She
went straight to the train taking her
luggage after that. The train started
moving. While keeping her luggage
she saw that there was her packet
of cookies in her bag and realised
that what she had eaten were the
cookies of the man not her. She felt
very sorry and ashamed of her ill
behaviour. She was thinking, I
became so angry thinking that the
cookies were mine though they
were not mine. So, what could be
the feelings of that old man who
kept quiet without saying any words
and was sharing his cookies? She
wanted to apologize but it was too
late as the man had left the place.

Moral: You can never take the
words back spoken by you; you can
never get the time back tomorrow
which you have today.

Life
Kr. Bamang Sima, Class IXA
It was a sunny day in the countryside. A
boy of ten with his father had gone for
bird shooting. As they trampled across a
brown stubble, a golden pheasant rose
with a low whirs from the ground at his
feet. With the joy of a sportsman
throbbing through his veins, the young
boy raised his gun and fired, wild with
excitement. The creature instantly fell,
fluttering at his side.
Life was ebbing fast, but the instinct of
the heroic mother was stronger than
death itself. With the feeble flutter of her
wings the mother reached for the nest
where her young brood were huddled,
unconscious of danger. Then she gave
such a look of pleading and reproach at
the boy that he stood still at the ruin he
had caused. The little brown head
toppled over and only the dead body of
the mother shielded her nestlings. The
feelings of cruelty and guilt that had
come upon him at that moment changed
something in the boy.
Father, father! What have I done? cried
out the boy, turning his horror stricken
face to his father.
But not to his fathers eye had this little
tragedy been enacted, and he said, Well
done, my son; that was well done for
your first shot. You will be a fine
sportsman.
Never, father, never again shall I ever
destroy any living creature. If that is
sport, I will have none of it. Life is to me
more beautiful than death, and since I
cannot give life, I will not take it.

LIKE TEACHERS
Kr. Deny Dignium,Class VIIIA
Books are our best friends,
They give us knowledge without end
Facts, information, values
The list is very long.
Books help to solve problems
Like teachers our ways they mend.
Books give us direction,
That often comes along
They improve our vision and direction.
Books are our best friends,
MY MOTHER AND HER
FOOD
Kr. Bengia Loya, Class- VIIB

My mother is slim and trim,
With love she is filled to the brim.
Oh! She is so great,
I think I have to appreciate.
She has such a fast brain,
That it overtakes even
A bullet train.
She has long hair,
And she is very fair.
My mothers hands
Have magic that
When I eat my mothers food,
Happy then becomes my mood.
Its not a big deal!
For she always makes
Such great meal.
She makes the food
With so much taste,
Because she is rarely ever in haste.
Whatever she makes,
Be it roti or cakes,
My mothers food is the best.
I must say that East or West,
My mother is the best.

THE WORLD
Kr. Jeson Kurdu
Class VIIIA

The world is a gift of God
Very big and broad,
We live in this world
Which is as precious as gold.
The world is also very colourful
It is the most beautiful,
It is full of greenery
And has a lot of scenery.
The world gives us much happiness
It also gives us some sadness,
But I like the world
As it is hot and also cold!

SUCCESS IN LIFE
Kr. Tasso Tatho, Class VIIB

Success in life lies within you,
It comes not to all but a few.
Success needs your alertness
And confidence,
Not it is gained only through friends.
Success needs your skill and
With all your friends
Support and favour.
Success needs a little inspiration and
Spirit to lead you to the path
Of gaining the merit.
So come on lets move forward and tell
To everyone you are not at all dull!
This is a small encouragement from me
Be bold so as to see you
All successful in any field.

LIFE
Kr. Tasso Duyu, Class- VIIB
Life is full of sadness and
happiness
Life is a gift of God
We dont know where it will end,
Life is full of shadow
It gives us right way
When it will be born and
When it will die;
Life is like a rose
Which blooms very beautifully.
And it leaves are very beautiful
To fall in the ground;
Life is like a day and night
Which come and disappear.
When life is ended
There is nothing to see.

LET YOURSELF GO
Kr. Lod Gyute,Class X A

Life is a duty to person
Life is a promise to fulfil
Life is a love to enjoy
Life is a journey to travel
Life is an opportunity not to be missed
Life is a change of every second
So, past is gone leave it
Future is coming dont dream of it
Present is here, enjoy it!
Let yourself go!
One Life
Kr. Narang Nama, Class- XA
One song can spark a moment
One tree can start a forest
One star can guide the ship
One candle can dispel darkness
One smile can conquer gloom
One step can start each journey
One life can make a difference.
THE INNER VOICE

Km. Tailyang Pinki
Class X A

When you misbehave or tell a lie,
Deep within you, you hear a cry.
To stop you from going
On the wrong path it will try.

While walking on your path
You help someone,
You hear a voice congratulating you
On what youve done.
In the voice,
You will get the satisfaction
That youve made the right choice.

At time I wonder whose this voice is,
Which knows how to make itself heard.
Ever in the loudest noise,
And helps me to see the reality behind
My silly pretences.
The more I search for it,
The deeper I go.
But itself, it never shows.

Everyone says
Kr. Taba Jardu, class VIA
Everyone says
The world will collapse in 2025
But I dont believe it.
Everyone says
Dont smoke in public places
But none follows it.
Everyone says
I talk too much
When they themselves talk too much.

EVASIVE GRAMMAR
Kr. Akash Hazarika
Class VIIIB
Grammar! O Grammar!
Why are you so evasive?
When I try to get you,
Running after you
I just slip and fall at all time.

Grammar! O Grammar!
Why are you so evasive?
When I try to get you,
Disguising myself
Im just unable to find you.

Grammar! O Grammar!
Why are you so evasive?
When I try to get you,
Flattering you
You just flatter me
Send me back my home.
Grammar! O English Grammar!
Why are you so evasive?
When I try to get you,
I just fail all the time.

My Subjects
Kr. Leegang Halley, Class VIB

I have my subjects
Which sometimes I like
Sometimes I dislike
The subject of Mathematics
The toughest subject I have fixed
The subject of Science
Where we can get a chance to read about
How dangerous it is
To chew tobacco and drink liquor.
The subject of History
Where we get a chance to read about the past
There are many subjects with much
knowledge
Which will be useful for us
From school to college.
MY MOTHER AND MY
DAY
Kr. Gyati Mobing, Class-XB
June twenty second
The day we met first
Felt so happy seeing
Someone like you
For the first ever second
Of my life;
You filled my heart
Couldnt say a word
You touched me and hugged
me
Father smiled then;
Wow, what a day!
My every second went like a
day.
You were every time, every
where
Holding, touching, kissing
me,
So warm and fresh
Your smell so astonishing
Never could forget that;
You gave me name
Like every mother does
A special woman to me
You will be ever
I love you mother
Thank you for the day
For my birthday.

My Tree
Kr. Rido Atum, Class VIA

O Tree, so big and strong!
Youve lived so long,
A hundred year or more, Im told;
And yet youre not very old,
A hundred you could tell
Of children whom you loved so well;
Who came and sat beneath your shade,
And underneath your branches played.

Why do you run away
When I come to catch you?
Butterfly, butterfly
Youre so beautiful
I want to become like you.

Rain Drops
Kr. Tungom Kiokom
Class VIIA

Rain drops, rain drops
Nice and lovely raindrops
When rain comes
We are very happy
We play in the rain.

But there comes a big lightning
We get scared
Run inside
And sit in a room.

Rain drops, raindrops
When it is rainy season
Farmers feel very happy
It makes paddy fields green
And makes us happy.

Environment
Kr. Leegang Halley
Class VIB

We will save our environment
For us which god has meant
Because it will help the living
creature
And keep the nature beautiful.

The uses of environment
In our life like trees
Which will give us Oxyggen
And cool breeze.
The uses of environment
In our life like wood
Will help us to cook food
So save environment, save
lives.

Stars
Km. Sorang Sister,
Class VIII B

Stars twinkle at night
They shine so bright
Like a fire work in the sky
Which takes my heart along with them.

I wonder where they go
After night......
We cant find any stars in the morning
When we are awake
Stars are the loveliest.

Mother..........Without
You...............
Km. Riya Ashi, Class IX A

O mother! Where are you?
I am searching for you
Everybody says
You are in the sky
Amidst those twinkling stars
But I am unable to find you there.
The world seems to be dark without you
It was you
Who brought me in this world
And why did you leave me
In this lonely world?
You taught me
Nothing is impossible in this world
But now it seems
Everything is impossible without you
My path was full of flowers
When you were with me
But now
Every path of mine is full of thorns.
O mother! Where are you?
My heart is searching for you.

Oh Dream!
Kr. Narang Nama, class XA
Oh dream! You are beautiful
For which the beauty
Of thousand flowers is less
You have strange ways of revealing
Feelings, emotions and frustrations
You are the sweetest thing
In which god restores delight
Into our darkest secrets
Deepest fear and joys within us
In a clearer picture, for us to view
And whatever we like to dream
Is our feeling and emotion.

My Life
Kr. Mudang Tamer, Class IX B
Knowledge, Knowledge every where
Thats in book, thats in newspaper,
Thats on TV etc.
But I am unable to earn
Why so?
Parents are there forcing me to earn
Teachers are there to guide in earning
When Im unable to earn, they get hurt
So their hurt is directly proportional to me.
Oh! What to do?
Its my life!
How to earn?
My mind has strong crave for earning
But recently got unsuccessful.
Thought of my life, emotion grows up
I have nothing to do
Just left to flood over the earth with tears.
All Alone
Kr. Puji Famter, Class VIIIA
Something is missing inside me
Its my soul.
Where you need to reside my heart.
Which you call you abode
But now its lost.
Gone like the time trickling away
With me on the road
I stand away from happiness
With gloom overpowering my senses
Taking a long way
I try to find the reason
Why ?
Here Im lost and aloof
With people rushing by laughing
A darkness overpowers on me
But the pains growing inside me
As my friend left me alone
To fight this world
All alone

Back to school
Kr. Hage Doko, Class VIIIA
April is back
After a long gap
We open our maps
And put them in our laps.
We walk in a row
Together we grow,
We learn everything
But at times remember nothing.
I love my school
It is very cool
Soft boards and black boards
We carry on loads
We look out of the window
Trying to recollect what we know
We pay attention
And built concentration
We are taught to be innovative
Which makes us creative
I love my school
It is very cool.
LIFE
Smt. J utika Devi Saikia,Teacher(English)
What is life?
For those who are alone
Its an ocean of sorrow;

For those who are failures
Its a burden to bear;

For those who are with a hope
Its a dream to follow;

For those who have come up new
Its a chapter to enter;

But what a life is
No one can answer.

Love
Kr. Taku Ribya, Class X B

Love is a substance that
Occurs inside our heart
For someone special.

Love is about a trust
That you will feel youre safe
Because there is someone who
cares for you.

Love is a thing
That pulls and pushes
You to someone special
That can be your parents, friends
Neighbour or the person you
havent seen before.
And I think
You all have fallen in love
But you havent felt that
You have fallen in love.
So fall in love
And see the consequence of it!

Grandma, I remember you cradling me in your arm,
Teaching me your gentle charms
Growing us with you by my side
Learning from you to never lie
To understand and judge too.
Love and kindness also I learned from you.
Through the gears you watched me grow,
Teaching me everything I need to know
Listening to every word Ive said
And every word I even wrote you had read
You had been with me till the end
Until the day for you, God did send
Now you watch me from up above
Shining down on me your heavenly love
I miss you, all my heart
Thank you for being with me from the very
start.

THE STORY OF THE CURSED STONE
Km. Bengia Rich
Class -IXA
Its an old legendrical story of Nyishi tribe..about a girl.
As her brother stepped out, she started to rain down tears
As if she was really out of her mind.
So, in agony and sympathy for her, he agreed her to follow
But warned her! Not to look around the way, they were going
To the place,
Where, there is no existence of being.
Except for the trees that were never-ever touched.
The blossoms that crept around it
And the dumpy lake, where water babbled.
Rounded with, under-cursed stones.
They left early morning with crushed sugarcane (jaggery)
They struggled up the way, for the whole-some day.
With their huge round hates on, they fought the heat back
And drank liquors, their mother had packed.
Her brother warned her again and again, every moment they would stop.
But as soon as they reached
The wind gave a magical wave.
She got to her feet, and cried out in joy.
Wondering, if it was the twins of a place called wonderland.
She plucked a red apple that shone bcause of the dews.
She ran to and fro while singing a song.
And, before her brother could stop her, she touched a forbidden thing.
Her brother slapped her and pulled her back.
But he didnt take time to realise that his sister was stuck to that thing.
With all his strength, he kept trying to pull
But! He failed at every attempt.
The girl kept crying, repenting her own mistake.
Praying to gods, mother earth, but none came to the rescue.
Only a helpless thing aside, that kept on consoling her
Night went, day passed, still she was entangled to the thing.
And soon, shoots grew and creepers crept around her.
Her brother was totally exhausted, yet kept on cutting them down.
As nothing lasts forever. . . . . . . . . . .
She knew she was bound to die somehow.
No matter how much he tried.
The thing got multiplyingly thickened.

Alas!!! In the remaining seconds.

She chanted out a song that was so pure
Made sorrow turn to a lively tune
Now she could sense, the coming end
So, she rested her eye on his filling it with words, feelings
And a look of farewell that she couldnt say.
And, damn! When, the moment came.
She knew it was the time to leave, her brother in a grief
And slowly darkness wrapped itself around her.
All she could hear was the cries, of a man
It sounded as if it were an angels cry.
And she wished, if only she had listened to her brother.
Years passed ..........
When travellers passed in the empty path
From far they saw a lovely girl
And, when they came closer to it
They found it out as the cursed stone
That met the same faith like the other that
Rounded the bubbly lake.
Moral:-Listen to your elder or else you will meet the same faith in your life.
LOVE OF PARENTS FOR THEIR CHILDREN
Km. Yangfo Moni, Class VIIIB
When we all were small children,
Our parents loved us very much.
They used to cry when we cried,
They would smile when we smiled.
Our parents gave us what we needed,
But when we are grown ups,
We never give them which they want.
No one is concerned about their feelings,
Nobody realises their anxieties,
Only gets upset when they speak.
So it is to be realized the misery of our parents,
They took lots of pain to bring us up,
Forgetting all their miseries.
And a person shouldnt worship any god,
But his parents,
As parents are the only gods to be worshipped.

When I am sad,
You make me feel theres no darkness without brightness;
When I am happy,
You cheer me up more; I feel theres no trouble in my life.
On every occasion I want you to be with me
Because I feel myself a shining princess with you
O my little star,
You also beautiful,
I am jealous of you,
I want to shine like you and make people happy;
After they see me, as you do.

And hug you very light.

The serenity which is created by its surrounding;
The surrounding filled with greenery,
Greenery of grass, trees of pine.
Morning, fog all over the atmosphere,
Smoke free, fresh oxygen
And twittering of diversity of birds.
Then gay in summer,
People enjoy picnic in winter
And children play on its ground.

Peaceful, joyful and self efficient.

Where will you fall on?
And he says
If you fall on desert, you will be absorbed into it,
If you fall in river, you will be flown away,
And if you fall on iceberg, you will be frozen into it,
So he asks
Where will you fall on?
Im one of spherical parts of rain,
Ah! Im falling from sky.
I think it is true;
Where will I fall on?
And where will I fall on?

EXAMS
Kr. Koj Tatung,Class VIIIA

The exams always induce in me a great fear
As they come crawling near and nearer.
The studies,
Oh! They never seem to end,
Burdening us with work seems to be a new trend
Exams are a disaster to young minds,
For they create tensions of all kinds
But, if we get good grades
We can be happy about a job done well.
KEEP SMILING
Kr. Tasso Berlin,Class XA
Wear a smile on your face
It adds to your grace,
Always smile and dont be sad
Otherwise things become bad.

A smile can change your lifes trends
It can even turn enemies into friends,
Greet others smile with a smile,
Remember, your smile is your first introduction.

Smile helps you to develop your personality,
A smiling face remains in memory,
While people forget an unhappy face.

Yet the seas are never full.

REALITY PLUNDERER
Rijay Doley, Teacher (English)
A man in mouth with honey
Sometimes appears boloney
Of his dexterity when he is braggart
And panegyric consolidates his fragility
Ushering to bloomer as a smart
When his preys stupefy at his agility.

Inebriated with infatuation
Embolden they emboweling rectification
His acumen embezzles them
Belittling all the veterans neophyte
Satiates, being pleonastic, his appetite
Singing the rancorous prowess anthem
The toilers into mere sluggish.

He stoops to be lauded
Who is reckless of blemish
Addicted to be applauded
Hardly disguising to be gaudy
His art of fabrication veils his dowdy
Who emasculates all the genius
From the credit of their conscientious.

Flatterer or flattered
Allre equally glittered
But lack in authenticity
Masking in duplicity
Which fortifies me not to splutter
Denouncing him to be humanity plunderer.
But this is not ultimatum inference
To accept or rebut is own conscience
For concrete apprehension take other reference
As bombastic talk for many may be living science.
