Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Build a Better You. Through Living the Eucharist Retreat Saturday, April 28th
9:30-2:30 in the PLC and Church We conclude our Lenten Parish Renewal with a retreat on April 28, 2012. This is a half day retreat focusing on how to respond to Gods promise made to us, I will always be with you. The first half of the day begins with prayer, discussion, and followed with lunch and Adoration. All parishioners are invited to the retreat whether you participated in the small groups or not. This is a wonderful way to commence the Easter Season. We need musicians, lectors, prayer leaders, and kitchen help for the retreat. Please contact Eileen Maggiore by email at eileen@ctklombard.org.

Living the Eucharist - Reflections from a Participant:

These reflections/prayers have been very thought provoking for me and I am enjoying them immensely....but...yesterday's stood out and gave the "wine" a new meaning to me. The importance of blood stood out - how Jesus sacrificed for us - then the thought came to me of blood transfusions and how life saving they are, how healing they can be and I related that to the wine..its healing graces, spiritual "lifeblood". I will receive the cup of wine even more thoughtfully from now on. I know the symbolism of the wine, but this reflection makes it stand out even more. I'm loving these readings and the weekly meetings. I'm still not very good with Lectio Divina - the word, phrase, but still wouldn't miss a meeting/lesson. We have so many wonderful opportunities to enrich our faith and so few take advantage of them. It isn't easy to attend. I know that. Some days it was a hassle to get out of work at a decent time and traffic was bad and there were household chores that needed attention plus dinner to fix and I'm sure this would be tripled if I had children at home. Some evenings I just didn't want to go, but was so happy I did attend. In all the years I've worked, I have always had new trainings to keep me current. I need to re-train for my faith too. These opportunities the last year have been like learning my faith over again...I learned it as a small child, it was taught again and expanded on as I grew and received confirmation and now again I feel as though I am re-learning my faith as an adult...same catholic faith, but in a deeper way and I am remembering things I had forgotten. Blessings, Janet Sipolt, Adult Faith Participant

March 25, 2012

HOLY THURSDAY: Institution of the Eucharist. An important element will be the washing of feet, which honors the Lord's command to love and serve one another. All those who wish to do so will be invited to have their feet washed and to wash someone else's feet, so plan accordingly and come with shoes that are easy to remove. At the end of the service, we will process with the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose. You are invited to remain and spend some time in adoration. We begin at 7:30pm, and adoration will continue until 10:30pm in the Parish Life Center. GOOD FRIDAY: Good Friday's mood is not a "requiem" for Jesus, but a reflection on the paschal sacrifice of the Lord of glory. On this day the centerpiece of the solemn liturgy is the reflective listening to the Passion of St. John's Gospel which presents Jesus as the sovereign king who willingly lays down his life for those he loves. On this day we venerate not the figure of the crucified, but the cross as the symbol of victory and salvation. On this day we solemnly present our lenten intentions for our broken brothers and sisters throughout the entire world. Silence plays an important part on this day; we begin and end in sacred silence. There is no entrance procession because we are continuing the Triduum liturgy begun the day before on Holy Thursday. There is no recessional because this Triduum liturgy will continue and conclude the next night with the Easter Vigil. All three are one liturgy, each day focusing on one aspect of the Paschal Mystery which brought about our salvation. The service on Good Friday was once called Mass of the Pre-sanctified. In reality it is a communion service, not a Mass at all since there is no consecration and all receive Eucharist from hosts consecrated on Holy Thursday. The communion rite, therefore, is done with the greatest simplicity. On this day of the Lord's Passion it is almost as though everything we do is done with greater reverence, attention and devotion. The simple refrain from the day says it best: "Behold, behold the wood of the Cross on which is hung our salvation. O come, let us adore." Our Good Friday liturgy begins at 7:30pm.

TAIZ PRAYER
Sunday, March 25, 2012; 7:30pm
Taiz Prayer is a liturgy filled with song, scripture and silent meditation. The sanctuary is candlelit; a space that is ready for meditative silence and song. The music of Taiz is repetitive and chant-like. The simple melodies wed to simple texts enable you to easily enter into the prayer and enter into a place of profound meditation. The service quickly grabs your intellect and promises to renew your spirit.

When Is Annunciation this Year?

The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord celebrates the Angel Gabriel's appearance to the Virgin Mary, announcing that she had been chosen to be the Mother of God. What is the date of Annunciation 2012? Normally, Annunciation would fall on Sunday, March 25, 2012. However, since that is the Fifth Sunday of Lent 2012, the celebration of Annunciation 2012 is transferred to the following day, Monday, March 26, 2012.

~ In the event that you missed it ~ A Message for the Day You are the Church
On Wednesday, March 14th, those who attended to the Council of Catholic Womens Luncheon to Honor St. Patrick were given a challenge. Fr. John Guiney was with us to tell stories about his changing views of the Church. As a boy in Ireland, he saw a Church that was very strict. At that time Mass was said in Latin with the Priest facing away from the people and men and women were seated in different sections in the church. Coming to America as a young man, he found the Church here to be much more open and relaxed. When he decided to become a Priest there were many other young men who joined him on the journey. It was different from today when vocations to the Priesthood are few. Today the number of young men becoming priests has dwindled to a saddening low. Early in his Priesthood, he traveled to Africa to do missionary work for the Church. There he saw the healing work of the Church and its affect on the people. The Catholic Church was then, and still is, involved in helping the poor and destitute al around the world. He found a people there who were very devoted to Gods presence and love which was reflected in their prayer life. The Church appears to be different in other times and places, and yet the message of the Christ h through out all of this time is unchanged. He asked us to think of ourselves as being the Church and that we should work to continue to do the work of Christ here and all over the world. We are very grateful to have Fr. John with us and pray that his message is heard and lived today in our country and in the world.

Habitat For Humanity Informational Meeting April 17, 2012 @7:00pm Parish Life Center
This summer we are planning to get a group of 10 parishioners together to assist in the building of townhomes in the Glen Ellyn area. We are planning a date in July or August. It would either be a Thursday or Saturday. Anyone that is over the age of 16 and would like to give back to the community for what God has done for them are eligible. Those individuals that are handy with a hammer are a bonus! Call Eileen Maggiore for more information and to respond to the informational meeting at 630-396-6076 or email at eileen@ctklombard.org.

Holy Week is the most sacred time in the life of our parish community. It is what we have been preparing for all during Lent. It is the highlight of what our faith life is all about. So don't miss the best part! As we enter the holiest of weeks next week, know that your presence at these liturgies is important. Each service is unique. The solemn liturgies for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday are among the very best things we do in the church. Don't miss these celebrations! Yes, they are longer than usual. Yes, they are different, but isn't that to be expected? Special events always cause us to change our ordinary routine way of doing things. That should not surprise us. Join us for these special celebrations. You won't be disappointed. The celebrations of this holy week are a climactic conclusion to our Lenten experience. As we move from the "hosannas" of Palm Sunday to the remembrance table of Holy Thursday, may our faith strengthen us to go from the Good Friday Cross of Calvary to the living waters of Holy Saturday and to the joy of Easter "Alleluias!"
