More than 700,000 au-domains are registered. How can a company or private perso n register an au-domain?

Since July 1 2002 there are new rules for au-domains: The net.au and com.au-dom ains are still restricted to Australian Companies, but also a foreign company li cenced to trade in Australia, an owner or applicant of a Trade Mar are entitele d to com.au-domains. The foreign company must not have an Australian Trade Mar : an international trade mar valid in Australia is sufficient. The au-domains should be identical with the companies name or the trade mar s, b ut can also be an acronym or abbreviation of the business name or trademar . And it is also sufficient, that the domain names are otherwise closely and substant ially connected to the registrant, because they refer to a product, service, an event, an activity, a venue or a profession of the registrant. Since July 1 2002 also one important rule has changed: The number of au-domains per applicant is no longer limited. In other words: A company or private person can register as many domain names as it is needed. There are several eligibility criterias: -trading under an Australian registered business name -a foreign company licensed to trade in Australia -an owner of an Australian registered Trade Mar -an applicant for an Australian registered Trade Mar -an owner of International Trade Mar valid in Australia Download of detailled rules: http://www.domainregistry.de/au-domain.html Every Australian and every Resident in Australia is entiteled to register id.audomain names. The domain name must reflect the personal name, be an abbreviation or acronym of the name, or be derived from one or more words of word of the name(or contain o ne or more words of your name).
