FIT VIDEO MONTAGE

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
We would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to our subject lecturer, Madam Zarina Binti Che Embi for the valuable guidance and advice. Her willingness in supervising and also supporting us as her students has contributed tremendously in the completion of this project. Our grateful and honorable thanks go to our families and friends for their understanding and support on us in completing this project. Without their help and criticism, we would not have been able to complete this project. Finally, a great deal of appreciation goes to each one of our team members (Mohamad Firdaous Ahmad Bhari, Nur Liyana Jaafar and Mohamed Raqif) for the hard work during the progress of the project. Without the contribution, enthusiasm and imagination, our project would face many difficulties.

FIT VIDEO MONTAGE

1.1

Introduction

This project requires us to apply the creative digital project development methodology whilst using up-to-date software applications to brainstorm, write design and produce a short (approximately 4 minutes) story on Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) with effective use of different media art-effect including a combination of animations, gifs, drawings, stills, clip arts or video whilst fully integrating visual art-effects with an audio stream.

1.2

System Objective

The objective of the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) Montage is i. To provide helpful information for students and parents and provide new students familiarity with campus and offices ii. To hare correct/current information from multiple departments around campus with students and staff iii. Provide positive first time experience for new students on campus An effective web page should be user-oriented. A user-oriented system is focused on the users requirements and takes into account what information that they are interested to find out.

1.3

Project Motivation

The motivation of creating a montage for this project is i. ii. iii. To be able to apply creative digital project development methodology that we have learn in class. To be able to create and manipulate a range of media types such as animation, stills, clip arts, video and audio content using optimum software technologies. To make full utilization of correct communication and presentation methodology.

Target Audience

Target audience is made up of the people who will be viewing our work and who the intended the content to be directed to. In our project, we are focused on potential students that will be enrolling to Multimedia University and also the parents of student-to-be. Research has showed that people find that multimedia presentations, such as the video montage are much easier to understand compared to storytelling method.

1.4

Hardware, Software and Authoring Tools Involved

To develop our project, we determine that the video will be running on PC labs. Thus, we have decided to use the following software or authoring tool

iMovie
iMovie is a proprietary video editing software application which allows Mac, iPod Touch 4th generation, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPad 2 users to edit their own home movies. iMovie imports video footage to the Mac using either the FireWire interface on most MiniDV format digital video cameras, the USB port, or by importing the files from a hard drive. From there, the user can edit the video clips, add titles, and add music. Effects include basic color correction and video enhancement tools, and transitions such as fade-in, fade-out, and slides

2.1

Design Metaphor

The design used for this project is movie film. The textual content of the montage was obtained from the faculty website while the images and music were taken and choose by us. In preparing the project, extensive media preparation and storyboarding were done. We outline our draft to ensure that the team does not overlook any intents and steps that are critical to the work.

2.2

Information Types and Format Use

After completing the brainstorming process, we proceed on to thinking of the building blocks of our multimedia presentation and also on how to present our project. In our video montage, we use a combination of picture, audio and text for working out the details of how we will accomplish the project. The montage does not contain any additional function other than the video presentation.

2.4

Navigational Strategies

The video presentation will open in any video authoring tool present in the PC labs. The montage can be played and paused with the control just below the video panel. We will be able to see the location and duration information, and we can jump anywhere in the video, by using the timebars above and below the video pane. The video were formatted to work together with any video authoring tool.

3.1

Multimedia Creation and Integration

The iMovie multimedia authoring tool allows any media to be created and integrated which automatically generate fine-grained integration between them. Although it is just a simple media object insertion, but some authoring action still needed to be done.

3.2

Coding and Testing

A crude mock-up video was developed as an early sample of the montage. From the mock-up video, editing was done to make some improvement to any necessary cut.

3.3

Problems and Limitation

The montage is finally completed and developed as planned. However, there were a few limitations and problem occurred in the video. The problem are somehow slightly affected the project. We had difficulties on pouring out creative ideas as we were not adequately creative enough. Thus, the montage produced was as simple as it is.
