Beginners guide to painting or skinning yor CarTown cars!!! First things first, you need a graphics editing program.

Now while MSPaint will work for simple designs, to make accurate re-creations of real life designs, or intricate designs, you will need a graphics editing program with a more diverse selection of tools and capabilities, like the following,Adobe Photoshop CS5-E (3 0 Day Trial),Corel Paint Shop Pro X3 Ultimate (30 Day Trial) or Gimp (100% free) now we're ready to start. First, Go in-game and download the template of the car you want to make a SKIN f or(Click car - Customize - graphics - 3rd tab - download). I'm going to use a Ta co Truck I had been planning on graffiti bombing, but never got the chance. I st rongly suggest renaming "uvguide" to in this case, "Taco.png" for organizational reasons. 2nd, Resources are your friend! Head over to either em0rox's thread or Lemonade' s thread on the CarTown forum to download a detailed guide template. HTML Color Code Resources, for finding that exact color you are looking for, lik e Olive Drab, Fuchsia, or whatever floats your boat. Here are two websites that make finding the perfect color you are looking for, with HTML color code that ca n be used in the game. Color Code Site #1 Color Code Site #2 Now it's time to get down and Dirty!!!

Now, Right click the detailed template guide showing the body lines(herein refer red to as just "Detail Guide"), and open it with the graphics editing program, a nd set this layer's properties to multiply. Next, Right click on the template you downloaded in-game(herein referred to as " mask"), and open it with the graphics editing program. Select the entire mask and copy it, then switch back to the Detail Guide, and pa ste the copied mask as a new layer(I also like to use the magic erase tool to re move all the gray lines around the mask). Then, create a 3rd layer which we will call Main. Click Thumbnail for example Now since all I am doing is adding Graffiti to the existing Taco Truck's skin, I am going to leave the main blank except for my graffiti, so it will show up on the original Taco Truck' skin. Otherwise I would normally fill it with white. So what next? Well once you have your design to where you like it, it's time to turn off/hide the mask(see thumbnail), and detail guide, then save it as a PNG. Next go back in-game upload it, and see how it looks. If you're satisfied, click buy, if you're not, go back and re-adjust whatever is bothering you. Doing metalflake paint jobs

In Photoshop, I use a large speckle brush(about 1/4th of the 1024x1024 canvas) w ith an 7% opaque Setting, and 11% flow setting. Next, in a new layer I select a color, (in this instance, for a spectrum metal f lake I repeated step this several times each in it's own layer with Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue, Green, Aqua and Purple), I then spray over the canvas horizontall y with 5-6 passes as needed to cover the whole 1024x1024 canvas evenly(you will barely notice a change in color), then repeat the same step vertically. Repeat p rocess in a new layer with a different color. Then, once I get the colors down, which will become the metalflake, I merge the layers layers into one, then use the "Sharpen" tool @ 10% & 20pxl in size, and w ith one of Lemonade's detail guides, I go over the area's of the car that would normally be exposed to sunlight ONCE. Then, I bump the sharpen tool to 33% and i ncrease the size so that it covers 1/3 of the car, then make 4 passes horizontal ly, and if I feel it is needed, I make 4 passes vertically. From there, I reduce the sharpen size to about 30pxls, ad drop it back to 5% and kind of touch up where I feel more flaking is needed.

Senior Member -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Join Date:Oct 2010 Posts:974 OK, what you want to do is "Create a new layer" to actually do your pa inting in, using the detailed(shadow) guide as a reference as to where the body lines actually are. I haven't used GIMP in many years, BUT, you should be able to HOLD the left mous e button down on the Eraser tool, to bring up more eraser tool options. However, I thought you were talking about the Template you download FROM the gam e. You can download that and add it as a separate layer as well. The key is to make each new section of a SKIN in it's own separate layer. EXAMPLE: 1st layer: Template from game 2nd layer: Shadow Guide(set layer properties to multiply) 3rd layer: Srtipes 4th Layer: Sponsorship decals like Edelbrock, Goodyear, Jegs, Lunati Pistons and so on(just using this as an example) 5th layer: Other graphics such as tribal flames(Also just and example) LAST LAYER: Main Body color. Just remember to HIDE the template layer, and shadow guide layers before saving the image to be uploaded to the game. You see, think of the layers as a paint job sammich, with the bottom layer being covered up by the other layers. EDIT: I'll post a pic of what I mean by layers, albeit photoshop, but you should get the Idea. ALL layers visible. Shadow Guide Layer made INVISIBLE.

Decals layer made INVISIBLE just as a demonstration.

ok im doing this for a '09 Pontiac G8 ill post the guide and template here so yo u can mess with it as well. Guide = http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...acg8guides.png Template = http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...9PontiacG8.png this way you can follow along and see what I'm doing or trying to do. im going t o make this as simple as possible and do nothing but make a couple racing stripe s. although you will be able to continue on and make whatever you want. Step one open Gimp. (self explanatory) Step two in gimp click open go to your file location and open your Guide so you have something that looks alot like this..... http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...arTown/SS1.png Step Three in gimp go to File>Open As Layers and select your template. if done p roperly your screen will look a little like this..... http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...arTown/SS2.png Step Four click Layer>New Layer and in the window that pops open dont change the size but make sure that the Transparency bubble is selected. this will make a t hird layer that has nothing on it. and your screen will look a little like this. .... http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...arTown/SS3.png Step Five this is where we would rename our Layers so that we would be on the sa me page as ZER but since this is more of a walk thrugh for ppl and they followin g this protocall all you need to do is nothing and it will be the same. Step 6 go ahead and do your graphics. in this case im just going to make a coupl e racing stripes something quick and easy since i totally suck at tutorials :P t his will make your page look a little like this.... http://i1207.photobucket.com /albums/...arTown/SS4.png Step 7 this part is a little strange but it works well. in your gimp program (if left unchange its on the left of your screen and is labled Layers, Channels, Pa ths, Undo - ...) is a window that has your layers on it. next to these layers ar e eyeballs. this is to show/hide layers. what we will do is uncheck the eye from our bottom two layers (in my case Background and 09PontiacG8) so that are your left with is some plain stripes... and it should look like this....http://i1207. photobucket.com/albums/...arTown/SS5.png now that you have nothing showing except your stripes we will go to step 7... Step 7. saving file... go to file>Save As and then type your file name. click on the plus sign next to select file type (by extension) and select the .png file type. and it will change your file name to the filename.png. click save. a windo w will pop up that tells you you need to export the file. and will look like thi s.... http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...arTown/SS6.png step 8.....and this one is very important. since we are exporting our file it is asking us some questions. and one of them has bubbles next to it named merge vi siable layers. that is the one we want. (although its not important for this tut orial it will be later on). click the bubble next to the merge visable layers. t hen click export. now pops open a menu that has a few choices on it. we only wan t four choices they are Save background color, Save resolution, Save Creation ti me (if you want it i personally like it), and final and most important is Save c olor values from transparent pixels. then click save. Final steps-go to CT and open your car (in my case the G8) and go to graphics. t hen we want to upload our image that we just saved. this will place a perfect im age over our template and will place the racing stripes over our car and not cha nge anything about it. now that you have had a basic experiance in this we can n ow play around with it. lets say you want your car fussia colored but cant seem to find it in CT base paint. no problem. all you need to do is start the same wa y we did before but this will make it a little more complicated. instead of maki

ng our racing stripes on layer 3 we would make layer 3 your base paint color. af terwords you can hide this layer and continue making graphics adding layers. jus t remember you want your layers made in order from lowest to highest so that hig hest covers lowest. then when you go to save all you need to do is turn off laye rs 1 and 2 and turn layer 3 on. then you merge your file as you save as before. although this isnt the same as previous mentioned it works awesome cause none of the extra colors show up and the excess on the screen will not show up so your car will be flawless.

Service Mastery Levels This Guide will show you how many of each service you will have to do to master that level of the service. With each service comes an upgrade in XP, a reward of 5,000 coins, with a blue point after the last mastery level. The list below sta tes the name of the service, followed by the number of services required to proc eed to the next mastery level, and the upgrade in XP at each mastery level. The XP at the last mastery level is ALWAYS double the XP given at the first mastery level. Therefore, the XP/Hour ratio is also doubled by the last mastery level. T he mastery level's XP increases by 10% in the first upgrade, followde by 25% in the second, 50% in the fourth and 100% (double) in the final level. The XP/Hour rates increase in a similar fashion.
