IIIT Bhubaneswar owes its origins to the initiative of the Government Orissa.

It
is a result of the desire of the Government to establish a world class institute
of Information Technology in the state. The Institute has been registered as a
society in 2006. The Management of the institute is in the hands of a Governing
Board, consisting of representatives from the Government of Orissa, Leaders from
the IT industry and eminent educationists. IIIT-Bhubaneswar will focus on quality
and rigorous education, quality resource, academic infrastructure, technology and
innovation. These initiatives will help IIIT-Bhubaneswar achieve pre-eminence in
India and beyond.

VISION Our vision is to be an unique institute imparting education, training,

research, and consulting in technology and related fields to develop human
resources who will lead the economy and the society in the coming decades.

Mission

The mission of IIIT is to be a knowledge seeking Institution of higher learning

that will educate students in technology and other disciplines of scholarship. The
Institute will work closely with the Industry and other users of the technology to
develop and deliver technological solutions to enhance their competitive position.

diffusion and preservation to meet the challenges of the century. The Institute
will borrow best practices in education delivery systems, research and consulting
practices. Leveraging technology to bring about next generation of practices will

Campus
The Institute has been allotted 23.5 acres of land in Gothpatna in the outskirts
of the City. The campus construction is in full swing. The institute is expected
to function in new campus from academic session 2009-10. Meanwhile, IIIT is
operating from the Orissa Computer Application Center (OCAC) building in Acharya
Vihar in the heart of the Bhubaneswar.

The campus under construction will be a place to promote learning and knowledge
sharing among students, faculty and others. The campus will have administrative
buildings, class room and laboratory complex, Library Complex, student dorms,
faculty quarters, recreation facilities etc. The campus will be technology enabled
to promote physical as well as virtual networking.

IIIT has created world class facilities at OCAC such as Class rooms, Library,
Computer Labs, Internet facilities to create an ambience suitable for an Institute
of higher learning.

Library The The Institute has created a library of quality books and journals. The
Institute has also subscribed to both Printed and the Internet versions of books
and journals.

In next three years the Institute is planning to build a library of about 10000
books.

Labs The Institute has built state of the art computing facilities consisting of
Servers, High speed networks, high end work stations and a software library.

Since the technology will be a key enabler of our processes, all our business
processes such as accounting and finance, Purchasing, Academic Systems, Library
Systems, Helpdesk systems will be using suitable software for smooth running.

IIIT has created a technology play ground where the students can explore and
create technological solutions and products.

Doctoral Programme

The doctoral-level Ph.D. programme emphasises on building research competencies

relevant to Information Technology.
