SYLLABUS FOR WRITTEN TEST

I.

ENGLISH

Types of Communication : Official & business communication, downward communication, upward communication, horizontal communication, comprehension of ideas in a passage, expansion of an idea for a particular purpose, summerising a passage for official usage, report writing.

II.

MATHEMATICS

Trigonometric functions, functions and limits, differentiation, maxima and minima, integration, definite integrals, differential equations first order and second order. Matrix algebra rank of a matrix, linear system of algebraic equations, consistency, eigen values and eigen vectors. Vector differential calculus Scalar and vector point functions, gradient, divergence and curl. Co-ordinate geometry:- Standard equations of circle, parabola ellipse, and hyper bola, direction cosines, planes and straight lines Laplace transforms: Linearity property, transforms of elementary functions, laplace transform of derivatives and integrals.

III.

ENGINEERING MECHANICS

Principles of Statics, composition and resolution of forces, moment of a force, equilibrium of forces in a plane, friction, simple machines, centre of parallel forces and centre of gravity, centroid of composite areas, moment of inertia of plane figures, polar moment of inertia, moment of inertia of material bodies. Kinetics of rectilinear motion displacement, velocity and acceleration, kinetics differential equation of motion, simple harmonic motion, conservation of momentum, conservation of energy, impact. Kinetics of curvilinear motion displacement, velocity and acceleration, tangential and normal acceleration, Kinetics equations of motion, projectiles, kinetics of rotation angular displacement, angular velocity, angular acceleration, kinetics equation of rotation. Principle of angular impulse and momentum.

IV.

ENGINEERING GRAPHICS

Scales-plain scale, Vernier scale, diagonal scales. Conic sectionsconstruction of ellipse, parabola, hyper bola. Projection of lines-lines inclined to both the planes, true length, traces. Projection of solids sections of solids, true shape of sections. Isometric projection of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, spheres, perspective projections visual ray & vanishing point methods, perspectives of prisms & pyramids. (Sketches should be drawn in the answer book itself with the help of scales, pencils and set squares. Minidrafter or T-square will not be permitted.)

GENERAL ENGINEERING

Mechanical Engineering Thermodynamics system, open, closed and isolated system, zeroth, first and second law of thermodynamics, carnot cycle, air stand cycles-diesel cycle and otto cycle, working of 2 stroke and 4 stroke petrol and diesel engines, properties of steam, boilers, elementary ideas of simple reaction and impulse steam turbines.

Electrical Engineering Ohms law, Kirchoff law, Thevenins Theorem, Norths theorem, Coulombs law, electric field strengths, magnetic circuits, ampere turns, magnetic fields, Faradays law, Lenzs law, induced emf, working principle of Ammeter, galvanometer, volt meter, wattmeter and energy meter. AC circuits: RC, RL, RLC circuits, series and parallel current, power factor, star and delta connection.

Electronics Engineering Semi conductors, P-N junction, diodes, Zener diodes, halfwave and full wave rectifiers, bridge rectifier, transistors, amplifiers, transducers, strainguages, transducer for pressure, velocity, vibration, temp measurements, Analog communication, concepts of modulation, A.M, F.M.

E.

Computer fundamentals CPU, Memory, Input/Output devices, storage devices, operation system, compilers and assemblers, computer networks, LAN, WAN MAN, INTERNET Programming in C. fundamental data type, arithmetic, relational & logic operations, library functions. IF, SWITCH, WHILE, DOWHILE, FOR, BREAK, GOTO statement, arrays, functions.
