Literacy Requirements The literacy requirements are consistent with the English language entry requirements for the Program. Aim To develop a solid understanding of information technology concepts and so enhance decision making abilities with respect to IT infrastructure issues. To provide foundation knowledge related to IT concepts required for other courses and careers. Objectives On completion of the course, students should be able to: Understand the language & concepts to develop increased understanding of information technology concepts including terminology, history, current examples and future trends in IT, basic concepts related to programming, as well as business context of IT. Ask the right questions to provide opportunities for research into relevant aspects of information technology including identifying and obtaining background information required for effective decision-making. Identify & analyse alternatives to extend problem solving capabilities in relation to analysis of short and long-term tradeoffs involved in IT architecture decisions. Make recommendations to increase the facility to make and justify recommendations in relation to IT architecture. Syllabus Computer hardware structure and operation, operating systems and software, data representation and number systems, basic concepts required for programming Teaching and learning arrangements This course will be delivered through tutorials and practicals. Assessment The body of knowledge will be assessed throughout the semester and in the final exam. Practicals and tutorials will include assessment of acquired skills. Assignments will develop and assess other graduate qualities.
