site.
END OF LIFE DIRECTIVE
An ELV is basically any vehicle that has come to the end
of its useful life. The main objectives of
the Directive are to try and minimise
the amount of waste generated from
the ELV disposal process, while also
reducing any adverse environmental
impacts caused through current
dismantling practices
BAILING FOR RECYCLING
TCD also have a baler which is
capable of baling 25 cars an hour. The
compacted cars are then sent off for
recycling.
Saving natural resources
Saving energy
Reducing pollution
Reducing the need for landfill
Reducing imports
Generating income
Creating jobs
Helping reduce litter
Waste reduction means taking steps to decrease the
amount of waste that we produce. For example, when
you are out shopping say no to carrier bags and instead
use reusable bags/bags for life to carry your shopping
home.
Waste that is not created in the first place does not
need to be disposed of, so preventing or reducing waste
is the most sustainable and environmentally beneficial
thing you can do.
Of course, some purchases are unavoidable, which is
where recycling comes in. Recycling reduces the demand
for raw materials and, by recovering materials from old
products, we are removing or reducing the need to
extract yet more raw materials from the earth.
When we bury our rubbish in landfill, we are losing
valuable natural resources and wasting the energy, water
and transport costs used in its production. 74% of the
municipal solid waste produced by Wales can be
recycled or composted through current processes, so by
taking part in recycling you can help to reduce the
amount of waste going to landfill.
Visit wasteawarenesswales.org.uk for tips on reducing,
reusing and recycling, and see how you can cut the
amount you waste, and save yourself some money at the
same time.
