Title : Green Home Concept in Kota Kinabalu

1) Reasons for selecting the aspect Due to the environment problems that had happen recently and in order to minimize the expenses of homeowners , here we came out with our idea of living style called Green Home Concept in Kota Kinabalu , whereby its fulfilled all the requirement used to conserve natural environment and resources which diminishes negative impact of human activities. 2) A statement of objectives The statement of objective is to provide comfortable house designed for peoples that follow green concepts as alternative way to conserve the ecosystem and improved lifestyle without harming the environment. 3) A description of the procedures / stages of implementation Initiation stage Determine the suitable location for the construction purpose. Organize a group of people who conduct a feasibility study of project. Acquisition stage This stage actually begins with legal investigation of the site on issues such as land ownership and planning permission, proceeding with ground investigation which is a thorough assessment on the physical attributes and capabilities of the site to accommodate the development, and ending with sourcing and obtaining financing and funding for the acquisition and development exercises. Design and Costing This is the stage where the preparation of plans and cost estimates for the proposed development is undertaken generally carried out simultaneously with various other stages of development process. Usually, design stage will take 12 months to 15 months. At this stage also, a professional team for the whole

project will be organize such as architect (designing the appearance and construction of house) , quantity surveyors (costing the designs produced by the architect), civil engineer , main contractor and sub-contractor. Permissions This is the stage where statutory planning permission (preliminary outline planning consent followed later on by detailed planning consent) from the local planning authority before commencing with the actual development is obtained. Commitment This is the stage where the land development really starts to materialize in the form of signed agreements on matters such as inputs of land, finance, labor and materials and statutory permissions. Implementation/Construction Construction started. Usually, it will take about 12 months to be completed.

4) A description of any material required In order to carry out the project, we need a list of equipment mostly for construction purpose and a team of professional workers. Examples of equipment : Excavation and Loading (crane-shovel) , Compaction and Grading(Grid Roller), Drilling and Blasting(rotary drills), Lifting and Erecting(Derricks, Tower cranes),Mixing and Paving(Concrete mixers) and other construction tools. 6) Anticipated outcomes When the project is completed, Green Home Concept can reduce the negative impacts of conventional homes and can be considered as a sustainable development that improve the homeowners lifestyle. All Sabahan citizens will gain benefit from this project mostly in Kota Kinabalu area . Besides, for sure there will be more requests to

own this type of house from the customer in future. The benefits of Green Home Concept are use less energy, water and natural resources, provide good air quality and comfort, generate less wastage, cut down the expenses of the homeowners in the long run and preserve our environment. 7) Anticipated problems The most commonly problem with the project is normally there will be a delay during construction project due to bad weather, demand for green home in Kota Kinabalu is not high compared to the conventional homes because people lacked understanding of Green Home Concept and they are not willing to purchase green home because the price is more expensive compared to conventional home but actually it will help save the money in a long term period. 8) Suggested means of evaluation The effectiveness of this project can be measured by peoples acceptability and development problems that occur when developing this green home. The evaluation instruments that can be used are by adopting case study and interviews methods. Questionnaire also can be applied to ascertain the Kota Kinabalu homeowners acceptability towards this new development concept. If the data and statistics of the findings show positive feedback then this new concept of house will be considered as succeed.
