Having abandoned his former tool of choice Photoshop; according to Mackie a decision based on a frustration with the color. With Photoshop, all color seemed to taken on a sort of Photoshop flatness* he took to watercolour. This is not your average water colour; there are no predictable pastoral countryscapes here.

The hand drawn creations are filled with subject matter as diverse as giant converse Chuck Taylors worn by a bandy looking character and a tattooed Undine (apparently some kind of water nymph) with waterfalls in the place of a skeleton. A reccuring theme is that of the distorted giant limbs attached to a range of eccentric bodies.

Last year Mackie won the Best in Book in the Creative Review Illustration annual. Judges commended his intricately warped figures. One noted that I was really impressed with the level of detail and attention to the figure and its distortions of scale.
