[Jn. 3:18]. 2. Etymology- so-zo- verb for salvation to deliver so-te-ria salvation deliverance so-te-r Savior yashac verb meaning to save yeshucah Savior 3. The physical meaning of deliverance Acts 7:25; 27:34; Heb. 11:7. 4. Man's need of salvation- Eph. 2:14 The barrier between God and man. a. The Essence of God Is. 46:9; Rom. 3:23; 8:8; 1 Tim. 6:16 which is propitiated (satisfied) Rom. 3:22-2; 1 Jn. 2:2. b. Sin in man from Adam's sin Ps. 51:5; Jer. 17:9; Rom. 5:12; 3:23 is solved by Redemption (purchased out of the slave market of sin) Ps. 34:22; John 8:31-36; Gal. 3:13; Eph. 1:7; 1 Pet. 1:18,19; and Unlimited Atonement 2 Cor. 5:14,15,19; 1 Tim. 2:6; 4:10; Tit. 2:11; Heb. 2:9; 2 Pet. 2:1; 1 Jn. 2:2. c. The Penalty for Sin Gen. 2:17; Rom. 6:23 resolved by Expiation (payment for the penalty-spiritual death) Is. 53:5,6; Eph. 2:15,16; Col. 2:14; 1 Pet. 2:24. d. Man's Position in Adam 1 Cor. 15:22a is changed to a Position in Christ 1 Cor. 15:22b; 2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 1:3-6; 2:13. 5. Salvation is exclusively a work of God Jn. 1:12,13; 2 Tim. 1:8-10; Eph. 2:8-10. Salvation begins and ends with God. Man can do nothing. Election is the sovereign expression of God made in Eternity Past whereby God read the printout from omniscience, having foreknown every person, which is foreknowledge on who would be saved. Common Grace- man is born spiritually dead, so at God consciousness and gospel hearing, the Holy Spirit makes the information perspicuous 1 Cor. 2:12-14. a. Mechanics and content of Common Grace- Jn. 16:8-11 Holy Spirit will convince of Sin- rejection of Christ Jn. 3:36; righteousness- human type Is. 64:6 Tit. 3:5; and judgment Heb. 9:27; Tit. 2:11. b. There is a general calling Jn. 12:32; cf. Jn. 6:44; Rom. 8:30. c. At the point of God consciousness, God reveals sufficient knowledge about Himself for man to accept or reject Rom. 1:18-23.

At the point of gospel hearing the believer must make a decision to believe or reject Eph. 1:12-13. e. Many also consider rain, food, etc. as common grace Matt. 5:45. f. The Holy Spirit makes that truth sufficiently clear to make a decision. It is not clear except by the work of God the Holy Spirit. 5. Efficacious Grace is that work of Holy Spirit taking the positive volition of the believer after gospel hearing and converting it to effective faith. Man supplies non-meritorious Volition, God takes it from there. I chose my rebirth, but not my birth or death. a. The believer is responsible for witnessing Rom. 10:14-17 v. 14 How shall they believe unless they hear. v. 17 Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word; God takes that spark of volition and converts it. b. Faith is essential for peace with God Rom. 5:1. 6. The Holy Spirit regenerates the believer giving spiritual life where before there existed spiritual death Tit. 3:5; Jn. 3:7,8. The believer is then justified, declared righteous (not just as if I had never sinned). It is a judicial act whereby the sinner is declared righteous, or justly free from obligation to penalty, and fully restored to divine favor. a. The unbeliever cannot be justified by the Law Rom. 3:20. b. Justification comes through redemption which is in Christ Rom. 3:24. c. Man is justified by faith apart from the law Rom. 3:28. d. Justification results in peace with God- Reconciliation Rom. 5:1. Every believer is entered into Union with Christ at salvation by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit 1 Cor. 12:13; Rom. 6:3; Ga. 3:27; Eph. 4:5.
