Content Summary:
Self Concept is an important factor in ones self esteem.
Self concept is how one view them self and it is important because how one acts and
communicates with others is connected closely with this. It is clear that to have a high level of
self esteem one will need to have a positive self view. A negative self view will lower ones self
esteem because focused will be placed on ones failings and insecurity that will lead to a low
level of self confidence.

Self Concept: refer to how someone thinks about or perceives themselves.

Self Esteem:

the opinion one have of them self and ones value as a person.

concerned with the judgment of the goodness or badness of ones action and

Morals:
character.

Values: principles or standards of behaviour which is acceptable.

Introductory Activity:

Students will be asked to rip a piece of paper into ten strips. On each they write a word or
phrase that describes themselves. The students will the arrange the strips in order from
what they like most about themselves to what they like least.

When done, the teacher will say, "Do you like what you see? Do you want to keep it?
Now give up one trait. How does the lack of that affect you? Now give up another. Give
up three. Now what kind of person are you?"

Procedures:
Step 1: Based on the introductory activity students will be asked to give a personal definition
on the word self concept. With the use of a concept map students responses will be
written on it.

Step 2: Students will share their personal definition with the class.

Step 3: Teacher will ask students to tell what is meant by the words values and morals and
how it affects them as a unique individual.

Step 4: Students will work in pairs to brainstorm the differences between self-concept and
self-esteem given the definition by the teacher.

Step 5: Teacher and students will have brief discussion on the differences between both
concepts.

Assessment: 1. Students will be required to create an advertisement describing who they are to
the entire class.
2. Make a journal using stationary of their choice and make weekly journal entries about
new things they have learnt about themselves through their daily experiences.
