This article does a good job showing the different techniques used in the mixed martial arts. This article dives deeper than just talking about the 3 main styles; wrestling, striking, and jiu-jitsu, but rather goes into further detail into some of those styles effective techniques. Something I thought was quite good was that they name a fighter who has been known to be very effective with that specific technique. Not much can be found on Patrick Bamburak on the internet, but this source was gathered from Atkins Library UNCC. The legitimacy of this article can also be seen because of the appearance of the famed referee John McCarthy. Kreuger, Ray. "Mixed Martial Arts." nytimes.com. The New York Times, 2011. Web. 5 Mar 2012. MMA has grown from a crude sport, to a relevant sport bringing in pay-per-view revenue. Its a combination of many different techniques. Although MMA is broadcast worldwide and even has its own popular reality show on Spike, MMA has grown is still not sanctioned in some areas. The biggest promotion of MMA happens to be the UFC after it acquired the leading Japanese promotion Pride in 2007 to become the top circuit of the sport. This website gives a general brief overview of MMA according to the New York Times, a world renowned magazine, news producer. The writer of this information is Ray Kreuger. He can be found on twitter and is the deputy editor for the New York Times. He writes mainly for tennis and MMA. Porter, Justin. "Mixed Martial Arts Makes Its Way to High School." New York Times. 17 November 2008: n. page. Print.

In Massachusetts, a high school has given permission for a MMA club in its gym. A sport one illegal in every state in the 90s is now school legal. The prior belief of this sport being too violent and aggressive is subsiding. In this controlled club environment kicking and punching is only allowed when used with pads. This club has not had any serious injuries. This club has helped show a way to vent out anger by using it to learn MMA. This helps teach the members the dedication of a fighter. This article was written in 2008 so the amount of clubs like this has probably increased greatly. This article is found from the database of from the New York Times, a world renown magazine, news producer. The article writer Justin Porter is not so much known, but has worked with the likes Katherine Heigl and Jeff Bridges according to the site. Seidenberg, Peter H. "Mixed Martial Arts: Injury Patterns And Issues For The Ringside Physician." Current Sports Medicine Reports (American College Of Sports Medicine) 10.3 (2011): 147-150. SPORTDiscus with Full Text. Web. 7 Mar. 2012.

This article gives a great list of rules and regulation in a fight. It also tells of the different injuries a fighter might sustain during a bout, and which seem to be the most common. A very good feature of this article is that it gives a list of the equipment that should be present for first-aid when needed. I plan on using some of the information on the different types of common injuries this article has explained in my paper. The legitimacy of this article can be figured out by seeing that it is a scholarly peer-reviewed article. Seidenberg online seems to be an injury based career person. Sullivan, Tim. "Mixed Martial Arts' Growth is Showing No Signs of Slowing." utsandiego. U-T San Diego, n.d. Web. 10 Mar 2012.

I like this article because it starts off with a big opponent against the sanctioning of MMA in a man named Marc Ratner. He openly opposed the sport and even appeared on television programs against it. After some of the rough edges of the sport was cleared up, rules and such, Ratner jumped on board and helped make the sport mainstream. An interesting statement made in this article was that the UFC has done a good job eliminating rivals or the sport by acquiring them. Could the UFC possibly become a monopoly? The UFC has done a good job promoting its events and its athletes, turning what was once underground to a household name. I have managed to find the writer of this article on twitter. He seems to be more of a sports writer more than anything else, which is pretty typical. The U-T San Diego news seems to be reliable. They are very open with being able to contact them for questions. They have been established since 1995.

The hardest part of putting this together was figuring out the information of the authors. Not much can be found on some of these people. The thing I like about my research is that its on a topic I thoroughly enjoy, and am a big proponent of. The group review on the evaluative has helped a lot! The other group reviews and discussion honestly have not helped much. It usually just ended up in asking each other questions about our topic rather than throwing out ideas. I learned mainly about some of the rules in the sport I had no previous knowledge about. Example would be strikes or grabbing of the trachea is illegal in the sport.
