Special Events Committee I.

Rationale Despite the USCs numerous committees, each addressing different concerns inside and out of UP, there still lies certain issues and needs outside of these committees scopes. The Special Events Committee serves to address these needs that are relevant to the student body through events that will benefit them. SPEC will also collaborate with other committees in organizing events of their own.

In recent years, the demand for employees and faculty with a higher level of competency have led various universities such as UP to aggressively offer graduate programs and companies to offer scholarship and research grants to willing and able students. However, many UP students are unable to take advantage of this because they are simply unaware of such opportunities or the processes involved in applying for them. In line with UP President Alfredo Pascuals vision of making UP students more globally competitive, SPEC will hold a series of seminars and talks spread over a week in different locations around UP. The aim of these talks is to highlight the advantages of taking graduate courses and to properly orient UPs undergraduate students on the different opportunities being offered by companies, universities and other institutes and how to avail of them. Possible speakers for the said talks may include professors who have taken studies in notable universities, representatives from grant giving bodies such as CHED or DOST, and notable alumni of certain grants and programs. An exhibit will also be held within the week, where students can learn more about the different programs and submit their own applications as well. This will also serve as an opportunity for UP to showcase its own set of graduate programs, and to present other available options to the UP students. b. UP Job Fair For the second semester, we will bring back the UP Job Fair, which aims to give UP students a head start at their careers. For four days, we will gather recruiters from various companies of different professions into the Bahay ng Alumni where they will set-up stalls and information booths. The Job Fair will provide an avenue where the students can submit resumes or apply for internships, as well as get acquainted with the industries under which they wish to start a career in. Seminars and clinics on resume writing, handling job interviews and other relevant topics will also be held simultaneously around campus to help students prepare for life outside the university. SPEC will cooperate with various local College Councils in getting the participation of other companies aside from those already part of last years Job Fair. This will ensure that as many industries and professions are included in the Job Fair, to cater to the diversity of courses and specializations offered here in the university. c. Committee and Org Collaborations Upon deliberation of the members of SPEC and with the consultation of the USC, certain projects and events may be organized in partnership with SPEC. The basis for deliberation will include the scale of the event, its purpose, as well as its relevance

and benefit to the student body. Committees within the USC, Local College Councils and organizations are eligible for this collaboration. Should a committee or organization wish to tie-up with SPEC, it must be brought to the attention of the council and placed as part of the agenda in the next general assembly. Here the council will discuss the worthiness of a proposal based on its relevance and benefit to the student body, as well its cause. The Special Events Committee will then meet to deliberate further on the collaboration based on feasibility, available resources and practicality. Should SPEC decide to tie-up, another meeting will be held with the said organization, committee or local council to establish SPECs function in the event or project.
