Not since Newt Gingrich in the 90s has a Republican activist so clearly analyzed what has gone right and wrong for the party and the Conservative movement.
Hes much more than the Chairman of the California Republican Party, hes also a columnist for Breitbarts BigGovernment.com, Publisher of PoliticalVanguard.com, author of The New Conservative Paradigm and a frequent talk radio and television commentator. Hes heard by millions on the radio, TV and in person each year, and, in his multiple roles, Tom is uniquely positioned to feel the pulse of politics all the way from the grass roots to Presidential candidates and legislators in between. Toms the guest speaker at our General Meeting. Make plans to attend and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, in this all-important election year, to hear about the state of the party, the election landscape, and the e ects of redistricting on state and national races. Daniel Webster (1782- 1852) was a leading statesman and served as a U.S. Congressman, senator and as Secretary of State for three di erent presidents. In a speech before the Historical Society of NewYork, he said, If we and our posterity shall be true to the Christian religion, if we and they shall live always in the fear of God, and shall respect His commandments, if we and they shall maintain just moral sentiments and such conscientious convictions of duty as shall control the heart and life, we may have the highest hopes of the future fortunes of our country. But if we and our posterity reject religious institutions and authority, violate the rules of eternal justice, tri e with the injunctions of morality, and recklessly destroy the political constitution which holds us together, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us that shall bury all our glory in profound obscurity. I would conclude with these wise words that our nation needs much prayer at this time in our history.
Presidents Message
Springtime has truly arrived and our county welcomes it with open arms.

And at our May 17th luncheon, we welcome Tom Del Beccaro, Chairman of the California Republican Party. It is a rare opportunity, and a big part of who we are, that we get to meet with state leaders. Tom has visited many of the Republican Womens Clubs throughout the state and we are pleased that he is visiting both Del Norte and Humboldt Counties. A second county event, HGOP Townhall with Tom Del Boccaro, organized by the Humboldt County Republican Party, is scheduled for that same evening at the Eureka Womens Club, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Please mark the date and bring your friends along. On May 31st, HGOP Art and Other Fine Things Auction & Tri Tip Dinner will take place in Blue Lake Casino at 6 pm; see details on the back page, and get your tickets now. Our club prepared busily for our April events. Our Spring Tea was a delightful success with sun and fun! I cannot say enough about the event each year, how Terry, Linda, Margaret and the team make it ow so nicely and how the delicious food was savored by every palate! The classy style show from Ferndale Clothing and the owers from Sun Valley Floral were a beautiful reminder that spring is indeed here! Thank you, Karen and the models! With red, white and blue splashes and oral sprays, we celebrated by participating in the 47th Rhododendron Parade. Leading the way were Amanda and Ron Sachs, sporting our grand banner. With the theme, Service Above Self- A tribute to Veterans, we invited veteran Art Chase to ride in style in our vintage car, the 1917 Stutz Bearcat, kindly provided by Harper Motors for us this year. Laurene Carlson and Pat Ponnay, with her granddaughters Jamie and Lilly, graced the car as well. Our caravan was completed by Carol and Henry Del Biaggio in their red truck, with Margaret Sta ord, Marilyn St. John and me enjoying the enthusiastic families along the way! ~ A great day indeed. A special Wine & Light Hors-d'oeuvres Reception is planned for our June meeting, Friday, June 22, 6:30 p.m., at the Baywood Golf and Country Club. We are pleased to welcome Peter Friedman, a former FBI agent and an invigorating and highly sought-after speaker you wont want to miss. Several members have heard him speak on various topics involving "The Threat of Islam to America" at CFRW-ND events, and this compelled us to invite him here. Please view the details enclosed and call promptly for a pre-paid reservation to this limited seating event. Our hope is that your friends, husbands, young adults or college students in your families will be attending. This is our future he is talking about...please become informed!
In Remembrance:
Parliamentarian's Note: At our May meeting, we will be voting to approve the members who will serve on the Nominating Committee for next years o cers.

TOP 12 REASONS TO VOTE DEMOCRAT
1.
I vote Democrat because I believe oil companies pro ts of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isnt.
CALL ON THE WHITE HOUSE AND SENATE DEMOCRATS TO STOP TELLING LIES ABOUT WOMEN!
2. 3. 4. 5.
I vote Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would. I vote Democrat because Freedom of Speech is ne as long as nobody is o ended by it. I vote Democrat because Im way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers, rapists, thugs, and thieves. I vote Democrat because I believe that people who cant tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will disappear in ten years because of Global Warming if I dont start driving a Prius or a Chevy Volt.
President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats are playing political games and exploiting women in the process with lies and irresponsible rhetoric to push their agenda. It's time for us to call for a return to the facts and responsible rhetoric surrounding the important issues our country faces. President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats have exploited recent debates over issues like the President's insurance mandate that violated the United States Constitution or the recent reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Republicans have voted for and supported the reauthorization of the bipartisan Violence Against Women Act since it was rst passed in 1994. Republicans support the reauthorization of the legislation, but are opposed to the expansions including additional de cit spending that Democrats are attempting to ram through. Their strategy has been to use outrageous lies and irresponsible rhetoric that shifts the debate from the facts to misconceptions about Republicans. In the meantime, they are able to force their political agenda in the process without public scrutiny.
Why?
6. 7. 8.
I vote Democrat because Im not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive. I vote Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security bene ts. I vote Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make pro ts for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see t.
9.
Tell the DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP to STOP TELLING LIES that EXPLOIT WOMEN WHILE ADVANCING A POLITICAL AGENDA.
Tell President Obama and Senate Democrats to work with Republicans to develop serious solutions to serious problems.
I vote Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution regularly to suit some fringe folks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
I vote Democrat because I think that its better to pay billions to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill for our own because it might upset some useless endangered beetle, gopher, or sh. I vote Democrat because while we live in the greatest, most wonderful country in the world, I was promised HOPE AND CHANGE. I vote Democrat because my head is so rmly buried in the sand(or up my nether regions) that i know Ill never have another point of view.

Legislative Report
California
From CFRW:
A debate is going on among demographers who study how cities have developed and will continue to grow. Scholars are guessing how California cities and counties will look in the future. They contend the demand for traditional large urban lots will decrease and that Californians desire for renting and multi-unit housing will increase. They feel their smart growth philosophy embodied in SB 375, sponsored by Steinberg in 2008, will encourage transit-oriented development and discourage urban sprawl. Never mind that a Pew charitable trust survey in 2010 found that 73% of Americans thought it important to own a home and a Public Policy institute of California found 86% of renters want to eventually own a home. I cant help but wonder what it cost taxpayers for these demographers to come up with their study? Why are they trying to force Californians into something they clearly do not want? It seems to me it shows how todays bureaucrats and politicians are stuck in the control mode and insist on herding us like sheep in the direction they think best. Never mind that regulations and no-growth policies make it di cult to build anything and, with high unemployment because of government, makes it more and more di cult to realize the American dream of home ownership.
Proposition 28
Proposition 28 is another misguided proposition on the June ballot. Despite what its supporters would have the public believe, it increases the amount of time politicians can serve in the State Assembly and drastically increases the amount of time politicians can serve in the State Senate. Currently, there is a term limit of three two-year terms in the Assembly (six years) and a term limit of two four-year terms in the Senate (eight years). Prop 28 would allow politicians to serve 12 years in the Assembly or 12 years in the Senate. Although it would cap the amount of time spent in the California Legislature at 12 years total, it would double the term limit in Assembly and increase the term limit in the Senate by 50%. Supporters of Prop 28 are attempting to trick the public into believing the proposition would reduce the amount of time spent in o ce but, in actuality, it would increase most members' time in o ce, especially considering most legislators do not serve the full 14 years in both Assembly and Senate. Considering that most Californians are unhappy with the job the state legislature is doing, giving them more time in o ce would only increase their power. The proposition is also strongly supported by labor unions and special interest groups who would bene t by an increase in legislators' time in o ce. Lastly, lobbyists would not have to deal with turnover in the Legislature as often, meaning there would be a decrease in the amount of money lobbyists and special interest groups would have to spend to get candidates elected.

Membership Report
As a member of Humboldt Republican Women Federated youre also a part of the California Federation of Republican Women (CFRW), and the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW), the largest womens political volunteer organization in the nation. With your membership, youll receive our club's monthly newsletter, The Redwood Alert, as well as the Republican Woman magazine, Canvassing the Capital, (a legislative newsletter), as well as Action Alerts (CFRW's statewide hotline network), Leadership Training and voter education. In addition, through CFRW, we have an Advocate speaking for us in Sacramento; we lobby our legislators, make recommendations on ballot propositions and introduce legislation.
Our Membership Tea last month went very well. For those of you who couldnt attend, the weather was great! JoAnn Stanhope donated her lovely home in Bayside for the event. We invited Karen Pingitore, owner of Ferndale Clothing, to join us with a fashion show this year! Karen surprised everyone with a $25. gift certi cate to Ferndale clothing, a very generous donation! Board members modeled delightful garments and there was food and prizes, too! A big thank you goes out to all who participated to make this Humboldt Republican Women tradition a fun event. We have two new members this month. Please join me in welcoming Barbara Rudene and Sue Smith! Remember our challenge! Membership Match! Match your membership by bringing in one new member this year and we will double our membership! We usually meet on the third Thursday of the month and always have an interesting and educational program. I think, best of all, is the camaraderie that we share. When you come to our next meeting, some of you may wonder why you have a bright shining little heart on your name badge. It stands for an Angel Heart. You are an HRWF Angel. This means you have contributed in some way to help us by volunteeringwhether helping to mail the Bulletins once a month, or volunteering on the HRWF Board in some way by telephoning, helping at the Tea or other events. We always need volunteers. Also the Angel heart is to thank those of you who have given a bit more than your annual dues of $30. Every little bit helps us. Again I want to thank all of you for your continued support and. You ARE ANGELS!
