Finally here! The lower deck is 2.

25mm just like on the 416 and the material appears to be the same used on the 416X. Surprisingly it has two cutouts on the battery side that are not on the official Tamiya pictures and not on the team cars from last weekend's ETS race. They are on the drawings in the manual and on the setup sheet though.

Upper deck is much more narrow compared to the 416's but uses the same 2mm material.

New damper stays have lost 1 hole front and rear so you get 4 at the front and 5 at the rear. Both have a new more rounded shape which is an improvement in looks to me. Totally new parts as the

mounting holes for the bulkheads are closer together (since bulks are also closer to the center). Damper mounting height seems to be the same as on the 416.

The new diff is impressive. Only retains the bearings, pulley and diff balls from the 416. Outdrives, diff rings, diff screw, thrust assembly are all new. Screw and thrust bearing is the same as on TRF201.

The fit between the new larger outdrives and the pulley is very tight and should seal the diff pretty well.

The most beautiful part of the new car is no doubt the 1-piece motor mount. No doubt the most expensive as well! But is looks fantastic an fits the chassis perfectly.

The 417 uses the same bulkheads front and rear, which means there are just 2 types used ( A & B ). Again beautifully machined and finished these look great right down to the new A and B markings. As mentioned the distance between L & R bulks is narrower, by approx. 2mm. The diff holders have moved outwards (by narrower adjustment tab on the bulks) to accomodate the diffs (also Spec-R & TRF gear diff will fit) and spool. Diff height appears to be the same. New upper bulks have again 3 mounting holes for the camber links but have lost the outermost one and

added a new hole further in for a longer upper link. Since the bulks are a bit higher (1mm) for a higher upper deck to accomodate 25.1mm lipos, the camber link also mounts higher so amount of spacers used will be different from the 416. Use 0.1mm shims between the lower and upper bulkeads to make sure the bearing moves freely.

With regard to the bulkhead heights, the top deck pick up's are 1mm higher, but the camber links only 0.5mm (thanks to a slight difference in cap height).

Also like that the new caps have more material removed where the outdrives run, so the spool (and diff) can be put in the high position without having to dremel the cap away

Yes, noticed that when checking the car a bit closer after the build

Rear bulkheads and 1-piece motor mount as well as suspension mount assembled. Fits perfect. Rear suspension mounts included are 1XA and 1E.

New smart layshaft system that locks the spur gear without screws. Only uses 1 single e-ring. Requires spur gear with 4 or 8 mounting holes because 4 tabs lock the spur (see picture). 19T pulleys coated/hardened with very high finish.

New steering bridge which mounts on top instead of bottom of steering arms. Requires less spacers which will remove any risk of bending the ball.

New shorter steering posts mounts the steering arms lower for a very low profile look. Carbon fibre link between steering posts included, but I have not used them but instead used the damper mount sapcers.

Bare chassis with new narrow upper deck mounted.

New wheel axles with groove for locking ring.

Assembled drive shafts. 44mm aluminium shafts used front and rear.
