Vocabulary : Why our farming policy is failing?

1. Farming> the business of managing or working on a farm. 2. Agriculture> the practice of farming. 3. Exportation> the process of sending goods to another country for sale. 4. Mining> the process of getting coal and other minerals from under the ground, the industry involved in this. 5. Tax> money that you have to pay to the government so that it can pay for public services. People pay tax according to their income and businesses pay tax according to their profits. 6. Income> the money that a person, a country, a region, etc. earns from work, from investing money, from business, etc. 7. Floods> a large amount of water covering an area that is usually dry. 8. Droughts> a long period of time when there is little or no rain. 9. Crop> a plant that is grown in large quantities, especially as food. 10. Soar> if the value, amount or level of sth soars, it rises very quickly. 11. Yeoman> a farmer who owned and worked on his land. 12. Lobby> an organized attempt by a group of people to influence politicians on a particular issue. 13. To hail> to describe sb or sth as being very good or special, especially in newspapers, etc. 14. Folk> people in general. 15. To toil> to work very hard and or for a long time, usually doing hard physical work. 16. State fair> the place where people promote their works. 17. Combine> a large farm machine that cuts the crops and separates the grains from the rest of the plant. 18. To grow> to make plants grow. 19. To farm> to use land for growing crops and or keeping animals. 20. To raise> to breed particular farm animals, to grow particular crops. 21. To breed> to keep animals or plants in order to produce young ones in a controlled way. 22. Crop rotation> the action of using the same soil to grow different sorts of crops. 23. Harvest> the time of year when the crops are gathered in on a farm, etc. 24. To sow> to plant or spread seeds in the ground. 25. Seed> the small hard part produced by a plant from which a new plant can grow. 26. Plowing ( ploughing)> to prepare the soil before seeds are planted. 27. Furrow> a long narrow cut in the ground, especially one made by a plough for planting seeds in. 28. Weed> a wild plant growing where it is not wanted, especially among crops or garden plants. 29. Farmyard manure> the waste matter from animals that is spread over or mixed with the soil to help plants and crops grow. It is an organic fertilizer. 30. Irrigation> to supply water to an area of land through pipes or channels so that crops will grow. 31. To water> to pour water on plants. 32. To drain> to make sth empty or dry by removing all the liquid from it. 33. Dam> a barrier that is built across the river in order to stop the water from flowing, used especially to make a reservoir or to produce electricity. 34. To fell> to cut down a tree. To saw> to use a saw to cut sth. Sawmill> a factory in which wood is cut into boards using machinery. Saw dust> very small pieces of wood that fall as powder when wood is cut with a saw.
