Reverse Osmosis Troubleshooting Guide

PROBLEMS CAUSES Main power source Main fuse is burnt Front panel 4 amp fuse is burnt Overload of the feed pump has tripped Contact coil has burned out Time relay is set to zero or is defective Wiring problems Motor has blown out or is defective Pump is frozen There is not enough water The low pressure switch is defective Clogged filter SOLUTIONS Connect to main power Check source main fuses Check the small fuse in the front panel Check the feed pump overload Check the contactor coil Check the time relay and the base Check electrical current running through to motor Check the motor and make change if needed Warm up the RO room and retry Check the water source Check the low pressure switch Turn low pressure switch button to on and open valve 27 Change the filter Check diaphragm under pressure switch Check the overload pressure pump Check the reset button of the pressure pump motor Check and/or change the motor Check the wiring and twist-on wire connectors Check if there is electrical current in the motor Check the timer at the front panel

The unit doesnt start And/or The feed pump doesnt start

The feed pump starts but stops

The feed pump starts, but the pressure pump doesnt start

Low pressure switch is stuck Overload on the pressure pump Reset the pressure pump motor Defective motor Defective wiring Motor time relay and/or base is defective

The feed pump starts, but the pressure pump rumbles or makes noise

Low voltage Start capacitor is defective Pressure pump could be frozen There is dirt in the motor (mice) Ball bearing broken Motor spline defective Bolts that tension motor are not well adjusted Pressure pump is broken Banjo filter is clogged Theres no water Theres air in the system The motor is turned counter clockwise Generator on 50Hz or is not well adjusted Permeate and concentrate flow are low The shaft pump or motor is broken Fouled membrane Pressure gauge defective Permeate and concentrate flow are high Concentrate glycol at unit start Water temperature is cold Temperature gauge defective Spacer for recirculation not present or defective Washing water is heated with equipment made of copper Brix and Sap quality

The feed pump starts but theres no pressure in the pre-filter

The feed pump starts, and the pressure pump starts, but theres no pressure in the membrane

Check main voltage Check and/or change the start capacitor Heat the RO room and retry Check to see if theres dirt in the motor (mice nest) Clean the pressure pump motor Change the ball bearing Change the motor spline Check and adjust the motor bolts Change the pressure pump Clean the Banjo filter screen Turn valve V6 towards sap tank Purge the air with the Banjo (valve) help Check the 3 phase motor rotation Check the frequency of the electrical source feed Close V18 valve Change the pump and/or motor Check and/or change the membrane Check the pressure gauge Change the defective pressure gauge

Membrane permeate flow insufficient

Consecutive washes with hot water Normal separation characteristics Check and/or change the temperature gauge Add the spacer recirculation Intensive wash according to users guide Check the concentrate sugar RATIO

Membrane sudden reduction of the permeate flow

Concentrate the first water with peroxide or chlorine Theres no spacer present for the recirculation The recirculation of the pump is defective Motor turned in the contrary way (230 and 600 V, 3hp) Membrane U-cup broken Membrane adaptors or o-ring broken Membrane u-cup broken Flawed membrane Membrane Filmtec NF270 Washed with wrong soap Refractometer not well adjusted

Intensive wash cycle Check the recirculation circuit Check motor, impeller, overload, and contactor Clockwise rotation at motor back side Normal separation characteristics

The membrane allows sugar to pass

Check and/or replace the o-ring Check and/or replace the u-cup Check and/or replace the membrane Check the directions for use of soap (dosage) Check refractometer with water
