Allysia Garland Professor Weller ENG 101 21 February 2012 Inconveniences to the World In Deirdre Sullivans essay Always Go to the Funeral she expressed a lesson learned by her father, that simple acts of kindness even when its inconvenient to you may mean the world to someone else. Sullivan stated in her essay that Always Go to the Funeral means that she should always do the right thing even when she doesnt want to, Im talking about those things that represent only inconveniences to me, but the world to the other guy(Sullivan). Sullivan used detailed examples of her own experience in her essay to reach the reader in her message. She was able to put the readers in her point of view and use a detailed example of the effect of always going to the funeral even though it may have been an inconvenience. In the end her fathers own example left and everlasting memory for her to relate to. Sullivans essay is short and quick to its point, the essay is directed toward individuals who have had life experience and more maturity to understand its meaning. Sullivan effectively proved her point of doing the right thing always, by sharing her own experience later on in life when she herself was more mature. Sullivan stated, The most human, powerful and humbling thing Ive ever seen was a church at 3:00 on a Wednesday full of inconvenienced people who believe in going to the funeral(Sullivan). Sullivans most powerful statement was her proof, that

you should always do the right thing even when its inconvenient, because it might just mean the world to that person on the other end. Sullivans essay is enjoyable to read, because it makes someone want to do the right thing. Everyone enjoys the feeling they get when they do something good for someone else, and in her essay it proves it enough, that doing something out of your way means so much to others. Its going to be a good outcome on both sides when you do something good than doing nothing at all, Sullivan says, In my humdrum life, the daily battle hasnt been good versus evil. Its hardly so epic. Most days, my real battle is doing good versus doing nothing(Sullivan). Sullivan stated she had been numb after her fathers death until the funeral, and because of all the people who were doing the right thing her spirits were lifted. Sullivans essay was effective merely by showing her own life experience for others to relate to. Im sure after reading her essay many people can think of many inconvenient people who helped them out along the road of life.
