Constitution of the Modern Media Club of Campbell University

Article I: Section 1: Name The name of this organization shall be the Modern Media Club of Campbell University. The Modern Media Club shall abide by the constitution and bylaws of Campbell University. Purposes

To provide the students of Campbell University with an established, student run organization to heighten professional skill by focusing on producing high quality media in the 21st Century world of the Internet, smartphones, and Twitter. To focus on giving students the opportunity to explore the role of media in the form of websites, blog, and smartphone and tablet applications.

To provide opportunities for student leadership and intellectual development by designing, building, maintaining, and publishing via a stand alone news based website which shall be marketed to the student body through social media outlets and syndicated via smartphone and tablet news applications. Publishing The ultimate and sole aim of action of the Modern Media Club shall be to produce media content of a superior quality, published under the title of The Daily Camel.

The Daily Camel is to be the sole publishing outlet of The Modern Media Club, published and syndicated online, as per the purposes.

Article III: Members Section 1: Any registered student of Campbell University, who is in good standing with the University, is eligible for membership. Section 2: Privileges of active membership include community and campus activities, voting, nominations, serving as an officer, meeting attendance, fundraising efforts, and regular contribution as a Correspondent to The Daily Camel. Section 3: In order to remain in good standing as an active member of the organization, members must attend eighty (80) percent of all club meetings pertaining to their role within the organization.

In order to guarantee equal rights to all members of the Campbell University student body, equal opportunities shall be afforded to all students without regard to race, color, national and/or ethnic origin, religion, creed, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, veteran status, or physical disability.

Article IV: Meetings Section 1: The Modern Media Club shall meet on a weekly basis for general meetings and also weekly as an Executive Board. Meeting dates and times will be announced and confirmed during the previous meeting by the Editor in Chief. A reminder email shall be sent to all members a minimum of three days prior to a meeting by the Editor in Chief.

Special interest or additional meetings shall be confirmed by the Editor in Chief. Attendees will be given at least three (3) days prior notices of meeting, time, date, and objective. Officers The only elected officer of the Modern Media Club shall be the Editor in Chief.

Article V: Section 1:

Section 2: The Editor in Chief and all appointed staff shall be registered students in good academic standing, committed to serve in the appointed position throughout the offices term, and able to conduct oneself in a fashion that actions will not reflect negatively on the images of the organization, its members, or Campbell University. Section 3: The Editor in Chief shall be elected at a regular meeting in the spring of each year, to be announced at least ten (10) business days in advance. Nominations of candidates for Editor in Chief of the Modern Media Club shall be made from the floor by any member in good standing. The Editor in Chief shall be elected by a majority of those present and voting; and take office at the end of the academic year in which they were elected, unless sworn in early by the current office holder. Appointed editorial and office staff shall be confirmed by a two-thirds vote of the General Membership at a regular meeting no more than two (2) business weeks following the announcement of his or her appointment by the Editor in Chief.

Length of term for an Editor in Chief shall be one academic year. Upon completion of the term, the same position must be re-elected. Length of term for appointed editorial and office staff shall be one academic year. Upon completion of the term, the same position must be re-appointed by the Editor in Chief and re-confirmed by the General Membership. Should a vacancy arise in the position of Editor in Chief, a special election is to be held in an emergency special interest meeting, called by the Executive Board, to be held within one (1) business week of the inception of the vacancy.

Section 10: Should a vacancy arise in an officer position appointed by the Editor in Chief, a replacement shall be confirmed within one (1) business week of the inception of the vacancy. Article VII: Duties of Officers Section 1: The presence of appointed staff is mandatory for all Executive Board meetings and ninety (90) percent of general meetings.

The Editor in Chief shall oversee all meetings and activities, and shall make sure that, at all times, the organization abides by the rules and regulations set forth by the Department of Student Activities and Campbell University. The Editor in Chief shall be tasked with appointing an editorial and office staff to effectively publish and meet the purposes of the organization.

In the case that a representative is need, the Editor in Chief will represent the organization on its behalf except in the case where another member has been assigned.

Section 5: The Editor in Chief shall set long and short term goals, make appointments as necessary for the function of the Modern Media Club, direct the day-to-day operations of the organization, work to carry out the purpose of the Modern Media Club, work with other members of the Executive Board to compete duties, aid other members in the completion of their duties, and ensure the success of the Modern Media Club. Section 6: The Managing Editor shall be the only appointed position that must be filled for the duration of the academic year.

The Managing Editor shall assume the duties of the Editor in Chief in his or her absence, serve as club historian, and carry out any additional duties as delegated by the Editor in Chief. The Managing Editor also serves as Parliamentarian, as deemed need by the Editor in Chief or Executive Board.

Section 8:

The Managing Editor is directly responsible to the Editor in Chief for all financial activities; including, but not limited to, advertising, fundraising, and budgeting. The Managing Editor shall maintain the integrity of all finances; keep accurate records of all financial transactions, reimbursements, and all things necessary and proper. The Managing Editor shall act as record keeper, draft email correspondences as necessary, and keep an updates list of club members. The Managing Editor will submit a report to the Editor in Chief, Executive Board, or General Membership as requested.

Section 9: The Managing Editor shall serve as IOC representative for the Modern Media Club as a member of the Inter-Organizational Council, and attend all meetings of the Inter-Organizational Council. Section 10: If the Editor in Chief fails to have an appointee confirmed for Managing Editor within three (3) business weeks of the inception of the vacancy, a special election is to be held in an emergency special interest meeting, called by the Executive Board. Section 11: Responsibilities and duties for all other appointed editorial and office staff shall be determined by the Editor in Chief. Article VIII: Executive Board Section 1: The Executive Board shall consist of the officers of the Modern Media Club, including the Editor in Chief, Managing Editor, and all appointed editorial and office staff. The Editor in Chief, Managing Editor, and all appointed editorial and office staff shall serve as voting members of the Executive Board.

Section 3: The Editor in Chief shall determine whether an action shall be approved by the Executive Board or by the General Membership when not specified within the Constitution or Bylaws of the Modern Media Club. Section 4: The Editor in Chief shall determine whether a vote is necessary and proper upon an action when not specified within the Constitution of Bylaws of the Modern Media Club. Removal of Officers

Article X:

Section 1: All members are expected to conduct themselves so that their actions do not reflect negatively on the organization or Campbell University. Section 2: The Editor in Chief, Managing Editor, and all appointed editorial and office staff shall perform the duties as defined in this Constitution and job descriptions developed by the Editor in Chief. Failure to meet expectations may result in removal from office.

Section 3:

The Editor in Chief, Managing Editor, or any appointed editorial and office staffer who, during his or her term in office, has demonstrated negligence or incompetence in the performance of his or her prescribed duties in the Constitutions, Bylaws or job descriptions developed by the Editor in Chief, or willfully impeded the success of the Modern Media Club, may be impeached or removed from office. Specific charges must be drafted and have signatures of a simple majority of the Executive Board.

Section 5: From the approval of the charges until the next meeting of the Modern Media Club, the impeached editorial or office staffer shall remain in his or her office and be allowed to prepare his or her defense to charges. Section 6: At the first meeting following the petition, an officer or other person selected by the Executive Board shall present the charges and the impeached editorial or office staffer shall present his or her defense. Following these presentations, the impeached officer may be removed from his office by a two-thirds vote of registered members in good standing present and voting.

Article XI: Parliamentary Authority

Section 1:

If needed, the Modern Media Club shall use the newest edition of Roberts Rules of Order, Newly Revised to maintain order.

Article XII: Changing the Constitution Section 1: Amendments to the Constitution or Bylaws of the Modern Media Club must be submitted to the Executive Board by way of the Editor in Chief two (2) business weeks prior to a meeting.

Section 2: The Executive Board shall hold an emergency special interest Executive Board meeting, called by the Editor in Chief, to determine, by a simple majority vote, to send an amendment to the General Membership for approval. Section 3: During the emergency special interest Executive Board meeting, the Editor in Chief may veto proposed amendments. Vetoes may be overridden by a two-thirds vote of the Executive Board. Amendments approved by the Executive Board must be adopted by a two-thirds majority of the registered members in good standing present and voting.

The Editor in Chief may propose a new constitution. A two-thirds vote by the Executive Board is required to propose a new Constitution to the General Membership. A two-thirds vote is required by those members in good standing present and voting to repeal the present Constitution and adopt a new Constitution in its place. After the adoption of a new Constitution, all provisions of the previous Constitution are considered null and void. Section 6: Approved copies of the amended or new Constitution must be provided to the Department of Student Activities for administrative approval.
