Organization: TARGET CORPORATION Introduction Target is an American retailing company that was founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1902. This company was formally called Dayton Hudson Corporation. In 2000, it changed its name to Target Corporation, even though today, it is simply known as Target. Target is the second largest discount retailer in the United States, behind WalMart, and has opened stores in every state except Vermont; operating as Target, super Target and formerly Target greatland. The company is ranked at number 28 on the Fortune 500 as of 2009.1 Current HR policy Employee Relations plays an integral part in an organization's overall Human Resource philosophy and practice. focusing even greater attention than before on all areas of compliance. HR professionals and managers throughout organizations must be up-to-date in order to ensure their HR systems are in compliance. From both a legal and a managerial perspective, organizations, managers and employees are recognizing that laws and regulations affect all aspects of an organization's operation but lack of knowledge and misunderstandings of the requirements and liabilities associated with compliance often lead to serious personnel and financial ramifications. Target Solutions, Inc. works with Managers and Supervisors to educate and inform them of best practices and legal requirements in the area of: AAP - Affirmative Action Plans, ADA - Americans with Disabilities Act, ADEA - Age Discrimination and Employment Act, EEO Equal Employment Opportunity, FLSA - Fair Labor Standards Act, FMLA - Family Medicare Leave Act, I-9's - Employment Eligibility Verification Form, and Title VII.3 According to the text (Human Resource Management) by R. Wayne Mondy, ethics plays an important role when it comes to human resource management or regulatory compliance. Ethics is the discipline dealing with what is good or bad, or right or wrong, or with moral duty and obligation R. Wayne Mondy. The notion of ethics therefore guides the way we practice and implement the various laws guiding the human resource management. This also enables us to know how effective and truthful a company is, in dealing with issues that go against the human resource laws. Suggestions. In order to improve on its practices of Human resource management, Target Corporation needs to make an effort to be more explicit in explaining the different laws on their website. What they have done so far is to list them and not necessarily explain how they will go about dealing with each individual case if they are being violated. Target corporations should also include the notion of ethics in their explanation of how they will handle situations of regulatory compliance. It will be good to know how fair they will be when dealing with a case that has to do with harassment, discrimination or event racism on the job. It will be good to know how ethical they will be in handling these situations.

Target has an employee diversity program called "The Strength of Many, The Power of One."4 It specifically seeks to work with vendors and contractors that are owned by minorities or women. My suggestion is to

strengthen this diversity program and make it grow even bigger. This program will help increase diversity, which will therefore conform with most of the laws regarding Human resource management such as: ADA Americans with Disabilities Act, ADEA - Age Discrimination and Employment Act.
