PEAK PERFORMANCE BUOYANCY INTRO: My name is Kelly and Ill be your instructor for the peak performance buoyancy

specialty dive. In this dive, youll get an opportunity to polish your buoyancy control beyond the open water level and enhance your abilities through knowledge development and skills practice. SITE ORIETATION: ARAMOANA: more of a sandy shelly bottom, can be quite surgy went entering the water from the rocks, drops down to about 12m at the mokoia, but towards the end of the wall it can get to 30m. There is a lot of kelp just after you enter the water and around the rocks, visibilitys usually 1 -4m. Can be a strong current, especially down towards end of the mole..mention marine life WELLERS: more of a silty, muddy bottom which can be stirred up quite easily disturbing the visibility. Drops off to about 6m just off the beach, 3m towards the wall close to the beach, and drops off to about 20m at the end of the wall. Kelp lines the areas around the wall. Visibility and be down to half a meter if bottom is real stirred up. Also, strong tidal movement and currents especially around the middle of the wall. Marine life. DIVE OBJECTIVES: Use visualization techniques before the dive to relax, establish a comfortable breathing pattern and move gracefully. Adjust for proper weighting float at eye level at the surface with an empty BCD, while holding a normal breath. Make a controlled, slow descent to the bottom and adjust for neutral buoyancy. Adjust for neutral buoyancy at a predetermined depth. Hover using buoyancy control for at least 1 minute, without kicking or sculling. Swim in a neutrally buoyant, horizontal position without touching the bottom or surface. Make minor breath adjustments using breath control. Swim efficiently using long, slow kick strokes and gliding. Control buoyancy while swimming without touching anything and without breaking the surface. Adjust weight and practice hovering in different positions vertical, horizontal, feet elevated and head elevated. VALUES: With peak performance buoyancy control youll enjoy diving that is more effortless and fun extended bottom time through reduced air consumption more opportunities for positive interaction w/ aquatic life helping preserve the underwater environment prolonging the life of your dive equipment improving your diving ability You should be able to assemble your own weight system with exactly how much weight you need conduct a buoyancy check establish neutral buoyancy on descent to the bottom fine tune your neutral buoyancy and control it in a fluid manner hover above the bottom w/ minimal hand and fin movement

DIVE PLAN: Gear up with weight belt, boots, BCD, and gloves. Bring fins, mask, and snorkel to water with you and put on before getting in. Do pre dive safety checks with buddy before getting in the water begin with review and friend Entry procedures depending on dive site. Use visualization techniques before the dive to help you relax visualize yourself underwater using your equipment, being aware of your surroundings, and controlling your buoyancy. Picture yourself moving calmly and confidently through the water. Once in the water, we will perform proper buoyancy checks, making sure we float at eye level at the surface with an empty BCD while holding a normal breath. Descend along the dive float maintaining proper contact with the group but especially your buddy and doing so in a neutrally buoyant manner. Adjust for neutral buoyancy before slamming into the bottom at no deeper than 12m. Start a fin pivot while neutrally buoyant (hand signal) to make minor depth adjustments using breath control. Then go into a hover for 1 minute, since you should already be neutrally buoyant. (hand signal) Then I will buddy you up, and we will go for a swim while maintaining neutral buoyancy in a horizontal position. (hand signals) After the swim well come back to a sandy bottom and practice hovering in different positions while adjusting weight. Can be a bit of current, surge and sometimes low visibility. Also, be aware of the kelp, as well as surrounding wrecks with sharp objects and overhangs. If you become separated from your buddy, search for no longer than 1 minute and then surface. We will ascend as a group, it may or may not be by the float, but we will ascend at a rate no more than 18m/minute maintaining proper buoyancy control to the surface. Exit procedures. Max depth 12m for no more than 50 minutes with 50 bar back at the surface.
