Besides,bothworksexertedaconsiderableinfluenceonhistorical,archaeologicaland linguisticresearchesdealingwiththeSarmatians.Myresultsandsuggestionswereoften quoted,adopted,developed,modified,criticizedanddiscussedbothathomeandabroad.Itis easytounderstandthatduringthelastdecadesbothpublicationswereoftenwantedby scholarsstudyingtheIraniantribesofEasternEuropebutnodemandcouldhavebeen satisfied.Therefore,IwillinglyacceptedtheproposalbyProfessorS.SzdeczkyKardossto republishbothmonographsintheActaAntiquaetArchaeologicaeditedbyhim. Examiningthevastliteraturepublishedduringthelasttwodecadesonthesubject,Iwould mostwillinglywriteanewbook,adetailedhistoryoftheSarmatians.Thegreatamountof valuableresultsachievedmainlybySovietarchaeologistswouldmakenowpossibleto elaboratetheproblems,discussedinmybooks,inamoredetailedmannerasbefore.Taking intoconsideration,however,thatbothworksbecamesolidconstituentsofscholarlyresearch sincetwodecadesandconsideringthatmostresearcherslookforthereferencestothem occurringinscientificliterature,Iabandonedtheplanofaradicalrewritingandrestricting myselftominorcorrectionsIleftthetextessentiallyunchanged.InanycaseIaddedsome additionalnotesanda 5
