Sugar Processing Chemicals

Qemi International offers a wide range of Sugar Processing chemicals that have been developed to increase performance and yield efficiency of the sugar factory.

Mill Biocides
In addition to physical cleaning, the use of biocides for mill sanitation is extremely important for the overall operation of the mill. Our biocides are successful in increasing sucrose recovery by reducing the presence of microbiological contamination, such as the Leuconostoc mesenterioides bacteria, which invert sucrose to Dextran. We offer two types of biocides: Qemicide DTC-35 - carbamate based biocide EPA Registration - 31910-2-63684 & 9386-11-63684 FDA Approval - 21 CFR 173.320 Qemiquat 3050 - quat. ammonium broad-spectrum biocide EPA Registration - 6836-2-63684, FDA Approval - 21 CFR 172.165

Bio Surfactant
In many cases, particularly with severely damaged cane the use of biocides is not enough to eliminate the formation of Dextran. If Dextran is not properly controlled, it can cause severe processing problems including poor clarification, increased viscosity o massecuite, crystal elongation, reduced crystal growth, etc. To prevent these problems, Qemi offers an alternative to the costly and traditionally used DEXTRANASE enzyme. Our Qemibiosurf 7150 is a complex mixture of inorganic and organic polymers that successfully control Dextran in the mixed juice, allowing for better juice clarification, less scaling in the evaporators and decreased surface tension in the vacuum pans, all leading to better crystallization and a higher sugar yield. NSF Approved FDA Approval - 21 CFR 173.60

Qemifloc high molecular anionic flocculants increase the capacity of juice clarifiers by increasing the settling rate and reducing retention time in the clarification stage. Among these are: Qemifloc VH 1007 Qemifloc AP 273/Floculante AP 273 Qemifloc SGR 1062 FDA Approval - 21 CFR 173.10 Kosher Approval - Qemifloc VH 1007 & Floculante AP 273

Evaporator Scale Inhibitors

Our Qemidescal product line offers both low molecular weight polyacrylic acids and polyacrylates that help prevent the formation of scale inside the sugar factory evaporator, as well as dispersing any scale that eventually may form in these systems. Qemidescal products are effective in a broad range of pH, temperature and water hardness. Qemidescal 900 Qemidescal 925

FDA Approval - 21 CFR 173.310 & 173.73

QEMIDESCAL 900
EVAPORATOR SCALE INHIBITOR
QEMIDESCAL 900 is a polyacrylate, that unlike polyphosphates, has an excellent hydrolytic stability. When used at threshold levels QEMIDESCAL 900 effectively inhibits the precipitation of many scale-forming minerals and also modify the crystal morphology. Both of these properties play key roles in keepingheat exchanger or evaporator surfaces scale-free. QEMIDESCAL 900 series polyacrylates exhibit a threshold inhibition property whereby a few parts per million can stabilize hundreds or thousands of times as many scale-forming ions. Surface absorption of polymers on the growth sites of scale-forming crystalline is the most plausible explanation of the mechanism forcrystal growth inhibitionand distortion. QEMIDESCAL 900 is approved for use under FDA 21 CFR 173.3 and 173.310 guidelines.

APPLICATION The hydrochloric acid solution inhibited with QEMICORR IN-3 is best circulated through the equipment to be cleaned. When circulation cannot be accomplished, the equipment should be filled with the inhibited acid and allowed to react for sufficient time to remove the objectionable deposits. We recommended starting dosage is 0.2-0.4% based on the weight of the product, which can be increased or decreased as required in your operation. The dosage can be best calculated by running a small laboratory trial prior to cleaning. We have found optimum dosages between 0.6%-1.2% based on the HCL solution. If heating of equipment or acid solution is desired to speed the cleaning action, it shoudl be done prior to the starting of the cleaning operation. However, keep in mind that at higher temperatures, there may be a need to increase the dosage of QEMICORR IN-3. QEMICORR IN -3 should be added either to the concentrated hydrochloric adic shortly before dilution, o r to the diluted acid. In either case, rememer to mix the product thoroughy with the acid by stirring or agitation.

APPLICATION Use: QEMI DF 8243 should always be diluted with water or with a portion of the foamer before adding it to the system. Concentration: Although it should be diluted before use, concentration (ppm) in the defoamer are expressed in terms of the product supplied. Only 5 to 25 parts per million are normally required. As a start point for evaluation work, add enough diluted antifoam to give a concentration of 10 ppm. Dilution: First, stir or agitate QEMI DF 8243 antifoam emulsion before removing it from the shipping container. Then, dilute the required amount of antifoam with three volumes of water or foamer. Slowly add the water (or foamer) and stir gently until a uniform mixture is obtained. Add the diluted antifoam to the foaming system and stir or agitate to insure complete dispersion and effective foam control.

STORAGE AND HANDLING Storage: Use the diluted antifoam within eight hours. Longer storage may cause the emulsion to break and lose antifoam efficiency. If longer storage is necessary, stir the mixture frequently. QEMI DF 8243 contains water, freezing should be prevented. The product should be stored at temperatures between 5C - 35C, however, it is recommended that it is stirred before use to assure uniformity of emulsion. Shelf life for this product is 6 - 12 months . STANDARD PACKAGING: 440 lb/200 kg drums
