MAY 2012

Growing Together and Reaching Out This Year

We have had some wonderful opportunities to grow together so far in 2012, and this summer will bring more activities that will help us get to know each other, the community, and our Savior even more. We started off this year with an Old Fashioned Social that got everyone moving and cheering as our members and guests participated in some great games. That event was followed up with a Valentine Social where we watched newlyweds answer questions about their husbands and wives. The Movie Night and Game Nights this spring provided more opportunities to socialize. And, of course, the Adventist Youth Society (AYS) meetings have continued each month to help our youth develop their spiritual lives. Our members gave back to the church during the Work Bee by sprucing up the church both inside and out. There are many programs planned for this summer that will have something for everyone. More details follow on the next page. Hopefully, you will see something to inspire you to get involved and to share with someone you knowor even someone you dont!

Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
--Psalm 150:6

Plan Now to Be Social to Save

The Middletown Valley AYS and Social Department are intentional in their mission of preparing our youth for Christ. Our programs are geared to witnessing by sharing our programs with community, friends, and family alike. Everyone is encouraged to attend these gatherings because this is the venue where we let our guards down and we become social to save. This is the place where we learn to know one another and have the most fun. So, the next time an activity is planned, you dont want to miss out. Please plan to be at our future social activitiesbowling, a Sabbath afternoon hike, and a back to school picnic.

Courageous Mens Study Starting in June

Also, in the month of June will be encouraging and celebrating the men of our church and community introducing the Courageous Mens Small Group Bible Study Seminar. This will be a four week seminar that will begin on Sabbath, June 2nd at 4:00 p.m. and will meet weekly through Sabbath, June 23rd. The Bible study is based on bold fatherhood and family principles featured in the film Courageous (from the makers of Fireproof). Members will discover how to lead their families more courageously in four key areas:

Responsibility: serving, protecting, and casting a vision for their family Priorities: focusing on eternal things rather than what is temporary Legacy: recognizing a father's potential impact as a godly role model Faith: strengthening a father's identity in Christ, increasing in wisdom

August is just around the corner! Fun at the Rocky Point Lighthouse Prayer Drive-Thru
Mission Sabbath on August 18 will be mainly focused on the Prayer Drive-Thru. From dropping off laundry to grabbing some food, people can do pretty much anything at a drive-thru these days. Now, Middletown Valley SDA Church will be extending spiritual services by offering drivethru prayer for our community. Volunteers will hold placards advertising the prayer offering to drivers. As a church family we will offer to pray with the drivers on any issue, whether it is a bad day, a divorce or a fight with cancerwe will let them know that our church cares! Also available on this Mission Sabbath, we will be assisting Middletowns People Helping People with their back to school program. We will collect school supplies and put together backpacks for the children of our community and personally deliver them. More information to come!

Our church is looking forward to having a Vacation Bible School on Thursday, August 2nd from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., continuing on Friday evening at the same time and concluding on Sabbath, August 4th during the worship service. In order to make this event a success, we will need everyones help. If you are not comfortable working with children, dont worry! We will need people to create decorations, assist with preparing snacks, and other items for the VBS. The theme this year will be The Rocky Point Lighthouse. The children will hear exciting stories, sing songs, create terrific crafts, play games, and enjoy healthy snacks. If you are interested in helping with the VBS, please contact Ric Frederick at ricfrederick@gmail.com or 703-477-5961. This should be a great opportunity to bring our children and those in our community closer to their Savior.
