Carpets made of it can be kept near swimming pools or other such areas where it is exposed to a lot of water.

3)Ethylene glycol:
The major use of ethylene glycol is as a medium for convective heat transfer in, for example, automobiles and liquid cooled computers. In the plastics industry, ethylene glycol is important precursor to polyester fibers and resins. Polyethylene terephthalate, used to make plastic bottles for soft drinks, is prepared from ethylene glycol. Because of its high boiling point and affinity for water, ethylene glycol is a useful desiccant. Ethylene glycol is widely used to inhibit the formation of natural gas clathrates (hydrates) in long multiphase

pipelines that convey natural gas from remote gas fields to an onshore pr ocessing facility. Natural gas is dehydrated by ethylene glycol. The purity of glycol used for hydrate suppression (monoethylene glycol) is typically around 80%, whereas the purity of glycol used for dehydration (triethylene glycol) is typically 95 to more than 99%. Ethylene glycol is also used in the manufacture of some vaccines, but it is not itself present in these injections. It is used as a minor (12%) ingredient in shoe polish and also in some inks and dyes. It is also used as part of the water-based fluid used to control subsea oil and gas production equipment.

6)Polystyrene sulfonates:
Polystyrene sulfonates are used to remove dangerously high levels of potassium in the blood, since hyperkalemia can cause cardiac arrhythmias and death. They are effective at reducing serum potassium levels, although there is concern about possible side effects when it is mixed with sorbitol. Sodium polystyrene sulfonate is used as a superplastifier in cement, as a dye improving agent for cotton and as proton exchange membranes in fuel cell applications. Crosslinked polystyrenes that are then sulfonated have found widespread use as ion-exchange resins. Polystyrene sulfonates are dissolved in water and administered orally (with a meal) or rectally, by retention enema. polystryene sulfonate complex is excreted with the feces, preventing the absorption of potassium into the blood stream. Hence, the serum potassium level decreases. Crosslinked polystyrenes that are then sulfonated have found widespread use as ion-exchange resins. Self-curing acrylic cement was adapted for orthopaedic use by Charnley1,2 and descriptions of its use appear in two of his books. The use of a template allows the surgeon to more accurately judge the size and shape of the graft required at the donor site as it is removed.

Types of fiber: 1)Carbon fiber:

Carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer is used extensively in highend automobile racing.

Many supercars over the past few decades have incorporated CFRP extensively in their manufacture, using it for their monocoque chassis as well as other components. It has also been used in automotive applications for aesthetics, as well as heat and abrasion resistance. Carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) has over the past two decades become an increasingly notable material used in structural engineering applications. When used as a replacement for steel, CFRP bars could be used to reinforce concrete structures, however the applications are not common. Carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer has found a lot of use in high-end sports equipment such as racing bicycles. Carbon-Graphite spars are used on the frames of high-end sport kites. This material is used when manufacturing squash, tennis and badminton racquets Carbon fiber is used in the manufacture of high quality arrows for archery, CFRP has also found application in the construction of highend audio components such as turntables and loudspeakers, again due to its stiffness.

2) Bamboo fiber:

Bamboo is used in Chinese medicine for treating infections and healing. It is a low-calorie source of potassium. It is known for its sweet taste and as a good source of nutrients and protein. In its natural form, bamboo as a construction material is traditionally associated with the cultures of South Asia, East Asia .

Various structural shapes may be made by training the bamboo to assume them as it grows. Bamboo can be cut and laminated into sheets and planks. Bamboo intended for use in construction should be treated to resist insects and rot. Bamboo has been used as reinforcement for concrete in those areas where it is plentiful, though dispute exists over its effectiveness in the various studies done on the subject. Because the fibers of bamboo are very short (less than 3mm), they are impossible to transform into yarn in a natural process. Bamboo fiber has been used to make paper in China since early times. A high quality hand-made paper is still produced in small quantities. Several manufacturers offer bamboo bicycles and longboards.

3)spandex fibre :
Apparel and clothing articles where stretch is desired, generally for comfort and fit, suathletic, aerobic For clothing, spandex is usually mixed with cotton or polyester, and accounts for a small percentage of the final fabric. It used in Home furnishings, such as microbead pillows. It also used in dance belts worn by male ballet dancers and others. Bra straps and side panels are made from it. It used in making Compression garments such as: cycling shorts. foundation garments. motion capture suits. An estimated 80% of clothing sold in the United States contained spandex in 2010.

Elastomers and rubbers 1) Natural Polyisoprene:

The use of rubber is widespread, ranging from household to industrial products, entering the production stream at the intermediate stage or as final products. Tires and tubes are the largest consumers of rubber. The remaining 44% are taken up by the general rubber goods (GRG) sector, which includes all products except tires and tubes. The first use of rubber was by the Olmecs, who centuries later passed on the knowledge of natural latex from the Hevea tree in 1600 BC to the ancient Mayans. They boiled the harvested latex to make a ball for a Mesoamerican ballgame Other significant uses of rubber are door and window profiles. They boiled the harvested latex to make a ball for a Mesoamerican ballgame hoses, belts. . They boiled the harvested latex to make a ball for a Mesoamerican ballgame flooring and dampeners.

the automotive industry in what is known as the "under the bonnet" products. Gloves (medical, household and industrial) and toy balloons are also large consumers of rubber. although the type of rubber used is that of the concentrated latex.

2)Synthetic Polyisoprene
Significant tonnage of rubber is used as adhesives in many manufacturing industries and products, although the two most noticeable are the paper and the carpet industries. Rubber is also commonly used to make rubber bands and pencil erasers. Many aircraft tires and inner tubes are still made of natural rubber due to the high cost of certification for aircraft use of synthetic replacements. Additionally, rubber produced as a fiber sometimes called elastic, has significant value for use in the textile industry because of its excellent elongation and recovery properties. For these purposes, manufactured rubber fiber is made as either an extruded round fiber or rectangular fibers that are cut into strips from extruded film. Because of its low dye acceptance, feel and appearance, the rubber fiber is either covered by yarn of another fiber or directly woven with other yarns into the fabric. In the early 1900s, for example, rubber yarns were used in foundation garments. While rubber is still used in textile manufacturing, its low tenacity limits its use in lightweight garments because latex lacks resistance to oxidizing agents. the textile industry has turned to Neoprene (polymer form of Chloroprene), a type of synthetic rubber as well as another more commonly used elastomer fiber.

spandex (also known as elastin), because of their superiority to rubber in both strength and durability. Additionally, rubber produced as a fiber sometimes called elastic, has significant value for use in the textile industry.

3)polybutadiene:
Polybutadiene is largely used in various parts of automobile tires; the manufacture of tires consumes about 70% of the world production of polybutadiene, with a majority of it being high cis. The polybutadiene is used primarily in the sidewall of truck tires, this helps to improve fatigue to failure life due to the continuous flexing during run. As a result, tires will not blow out in extreme service conditions. It is also used in the tread portion of giant truck tires to improve the abrasion. Its main competitors in this application are styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and natural rubber. Polybutadiene has the advantage compared to SBR in its lower liquid-glass temperature. which gives it a high resistance to wear and a low rolling resistance. This gives the tires a long life and low fuel consumption. However, the lower transition temperature also lowers the friction on wet surfaces, which is why polybutadiene almost always is used in combination with any of the other two elastomers. About 1 kg of polybutadiene is used per tire in automobiles, and 3.3 kg in utility vehicles. About 25% of the produced polybutadiene is used to improve the mechanical properties of plastics, in particular of high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) and to a lesser extent acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS).

The addition of between 4 and 12% polybutadiene to polystyrene transforms it from a fragile and delicate material to a ductile and resistant one. The quality of the process is more important in the use in plastics than in tires, especially when it comes to color and content of gels which have to be as low as possible. In addition, the products need to meet a list of health requirements due to its use in the food industry.

4)butyl rubber:
Polyisobutylene (in the form of polyisobutylene succinimide, PIBSI) has interesting properties when used as an additive in lubricating oils and motor fuels. Polyisobutylene added in small amounts to the lubricating oils used in machining results in a significant reduction in the generation of oil mist and thus reduces the operator's inhalation of oil mist. It is also used to clean up waterborne oil spills as part of the commercial product Elastol. When added to crude oil it increases the oil's viscoelasticity when pulled, causing the oil to resist breakup when it is vacuumed from the surface of the water. As a fuel additive, polyisobutylene has detergent properties. When added to diesel fuel, it resists fouling of fuel injectors, leading to reduced hydrocarbon and particulate emissions. It is blended with other detergents and additives to make a detergent package that are added to gasoline and diesel fuel to resist buildup of deposits and engine knock. Polyisobutylene is used in some formulations as a thickening agent. Butyl rubber is used for the bladders in basketballs, footballs, soccer balls and other inflatable balls to provide a tough, airtight inner compartment. 14)Fiberglass:
Fiberglass is an immensely versatile material which combines its light weight with an inherent strength to provide a weather resistant finish, with a variety of surface textures. The development of fiber reinforced plastic for commercial use was being extensively researched in the 1930s. It was particularly of interest to the aviation industry. Mass production of glass strands was accidentally discovered in 1932 when a researcher at the Owens-Illinois accidentally directed a jet of compressed air at a stream of molten glass and produced fibers. Owens joined up with the Corning company in 1935 and the method was adapted by Owens Corning to produce its patented "Fiberglas" (one "s"). During World War II it was developed as a replacement for the molded plywood used in aircraft radomes (fiberglass being transparent to microwaves). Advanced manufacturing techniques such as pre-prigs and fiber rovings extend the applications and the tensile strength possible with fiber-reinforced plastics. Fiberglass is also used in the telecommunications industry for shrouding the visual appearance of antennas, due to its RF permeability and low signal attenuation properties. It may also be used to shroud the visual appearance of other equipment where no signal permeability is required, such as equipment cabinets and steel support structures. due to the ease with which it can be molded, manufactured and painted to custom designs, to blend in with existing structures or brickwork.
