Chapter 1
Getting Started
Getting Started with the Agfa Duoscan T1200
Before you can begin the scanning process, you must first turn the scanners power on: 1. On the front right side of the scanner, press the power button.
Note: If the scanner does not turn on, check and make sure that it is connected properly. Note: If you dont turn the power on, you will receive an error message when you try to open Agfa Fotolook.
2. You will hear a loud click sound followed by a series of sounds as the scanner calibrates itself. 3. When the scanner is ready for operation, the three indicator lights will activate. (see Page 1) You are now ready to open Agfa FotoLook PS 3.6. This is the application that allows you to scan your images.
2. Select Favorites, then select Applications, and then click Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE. The Photoshop application window opens. 3. On the menu tool bar, click File. The File options drop down menu appears.
Note: You cannot open Agfa Fotolook without opening Adobe Photoshop.
4. Select Import, then click Agfa FotoLook PS 3.6. The FotoLook application window opens.
1. a reflective original (a photograph). 2. a transparent original (a slide). 3. a negative original (a 35 mm negative). You will then learn how to save and print the scanned images.
Scanning a Photograph
Placing the original in the scanner 1. Lift the document cover on top of the scanner. 2. Place the photograph face down on the glass plate with the top centered against the front ruler. 3. Close the document cover. The next step is to adjust the application settings. Adjusting the settings 1. Open FotoLook. (See directions on page 3) 2. On the upper left portion of the screen, click Overview. 3. Make sure that the overview settings are as follows: a) Original: Reflective b) Scan area: Max. Area c) Mode: Color RGB

Note: If you place the photograph incorrectly, the scanned image will appear inverted. Warning: If you dont close the document cover before scanning, light from the scanner may be harmful to your eyes.
4. If these settings are not present, click the indicated boxes and correct them.

You may now scan the photograph. Scanning the image 1. On the bottom left portion of the FotoLook application window, click Preview. 2. The image will appear in the preview window. This will take a few moments to complete.
3. You will notice a flashing border around the preview window. On the perimeter of this border appears a series of small white boxes. 4. Move your mouse pointer over one of the boxes. The mouse pointer will become a double arrow. 5. Using your mouse, click and drag each box until you reach the desired area of the photograph that you wish to scan.

6. On the bottom left portion of the screen, click Scan. 7. The scanned image will appear in a new window. This will take a few moments to complete.
You may now save or print the scanned image: 1. For instructions on how to save, go to page 15. 2. For instructions on how to print, go to page 17.

Scanning a Slide
Placing the original in the scanner 1. Extend the lower tray from the front of the scanner.
Note: If you place the slide incorrectly, the scanned image will appear inverted.
2. Place the slide face down on the glass plate with the top centered against the arrow. 3. Firmly push the slide under the slide holder. 4. Close the lower tray. The next step is to adjust the application settings. Adjusting the settings 1. Open FotoLook. (See directions on page 3) 2. On the upper left portion of the screen, click Overview. 3. Make sure that the overview settings are as follows: a) Original: Transparent b) Scan area: Max. Area c) Mode: Color RGB

Scanning a Negative
Placing the original in the scanner 1. Extend the lower tray from the front of the scanner. 2. Place the negative strip horizontally face down on the glass plate with the top centered against the arrow. 3. Firmly push the negative strip under the negative holder (See Page 1). 4. Close the lower tray. The next step is to adjust the application settings. Adjusting the settings 1. Open FotoLook. (See directions on page 3) 2. On the upper left portion of the screen, click Overview. 3. Make sure that the overview settings are as follows: a) Original: Negative b) Scan area: Max. Area c) Mode: Color RGB

Note: If the preview window turns green, red, or blue, ignore it and continue. It will return to the proper color once you complete step 5.

The mouse pointer will become a double arrow. 5. Using your mouse, click and drag each box until you reach the desired area of the negative strip that you wish to scan.

6. On the bottom left portion of the screen, click Scan. 7. The scanned image will appear in a new window. This will take a few moments to complete.
You may now save or print the scanned image: 1. For instructions on how to save, go to page 15. 2. For instructions on how to print, go to page 17.

3. On the right side of the Save As window, click Desktop. This selects desktop as your file destination. 4. Under Save This Document As, Type: park. Park becomes your file name. 5. Under Format, make sure that jpeg is selected. If it is not, click the Format box and correct it.

7. Click OK. Your image file has been saved to your desktop.
Note: The desktop should only be used for temporary storage. You may also save your scanned images to a disk or to your H Drive on the UNC Charlotte Network. Refer to the Help Menu from your desktop.

3. Make sure the following settings are selected: a) Printer: Fretwell 215 printer b) Destination: Printer 4. If these settings are not selected, click the indicated boxes and correct them. 5. Click Print. Your image will be sent to the Fretwell 215 printer.
