Media
Media is a comprehensive discipline that focuses on the immensely diverse media industry, including understanding, analysing and engaging with web and mobile-enabled digital, social and participatory media. It is constantly evolving in response to changes in technology innovations, government policy, and developing media practices, keeping us at the forefront of media education.
Being media-savvy and digitally literate are now necessities for full participation in society. Companies and organisations are also well aware of this, which makes career prospects exciting. Career opportunities for media students are determined by the students areas of specialisation. Graduates may develop their careers in a wide range of positions in government and non-government organisations, radio, video production, television, film, print and publishing, creative multimedia and online.

The Arts Internship places students in a host organisation for one day per week throughout the semester. Students undertake a research project on a topic of interest, and of relevance to the host organisation. Students are jointly supervised by an academic and a member of staff at the host organisation. Arts Internship students will be expected to attend and participate in a series of seminars as well as meet their academic supervisor during their course. At the end of the course, students give an oral presentation about their project and hand up a report of approximately 7000 words. The Arts Internship counts towards 50% of one semesters workload. Students are asked to apply for a place in the internship, indicating their area of interest. Selection is based on Grade Point Average (GPA) in completed university studies. Overseas Exchange
The University has student exchange links with over 100 overseas institutions. You can study overseas for one or two semesters and these count as credit towards your degree program at the University of Adelaide. There are no extra tuition fees for this study. What better way to test out newly developed language skills or experience another culture as you learn!

This is a collaborative venture between the University and various media organisations in the community. The placement, which is highly recommended, allows students to gain valuable work experience and contribute toward a project for their host organisation, which counts towards their overall grade. Diploma in
LANGUAGES
Any student enrolled in an undergraduate program at the University can elect to study a language through the Diploma in Languages. You can start as a complete beginner or with more advanced knowledge, and choose from Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek or Spanish. The Diploma extends your study by one year to fit the required three years of language study, and you graduate with awards in both your program and the Diploma in Languages. You will leave university with language expertise, in both your chosen language and English, communication skills and greater cultural insight. The Diploma in Languages is not available to international students.

Would you like to work in an organisation as part of your degree and learn new skills to help you prepare for the world of work? If so, think about enrolling in an Arts Internship course (subject).

AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by less than 5% of the worlds business schools. This means the University of Adelaides Business Degrees are recognised internationally for their high quality and successful graduates. This program enables students to gain credit towards Certified Professional Marketer (CPM) status awarded by the Australian Marketing Institute (AMI). This double degree option ensures perspectives from other disciplines are brought to bear and that studies in Law are seen in the wider social context. Completion of a double degree program uniquely places graduates to take up some of the specialist career opportunities offered beyond the law. Students already enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) degree may also apply for entry to the Bachelor of Laws towards the end of their first year of full-time study. If accepted, they begin in their second year and may, with appropriate selection of courses, complete the two programs in the same timeframe. Opportunities to undertake an internship with a professional organisation are also available. we communicate, the role of broadcast radio and television, and creative digital story techniques. These courses combine media history and theory with the study of professional media practices. Advanced Level core courses include media law, media research, global media, online democracy, professional practices, media and creative theory, and a range of options including a media industry placement. The placement, which is highly recommended, allows students to gain valuable work experience and contribute toward a project for their host organisation.

Work Placement
All Bachelor of Media students have the opportunity to take part in a Media Industry Placement as an elective toward their degree. It is highly recommended for those who wish to enter the industry directly after completion of their undergraduate degree. The placement allows students to gain work experience, and contribute toward a host organisation project. Students should negotiate their own placements with organisations of their choice, after discussion with the Head of Discipline. Proposed projects require sign-off by the Media Industry Placement Convenor and Head of School. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the Media Industry Placement does not clash with their other courses. Students may elect to do the Placement during vacation time if staff are available to supervise them, and the host organisation and the University agree on a mutually acceptable time frame.

Honours
Graduates of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences are encouraged to further their studies by undertaking an Honours year (one year of fulltime study). It includes advanced coursework and a research component where you will produce an extended piece of work (thesis) on a chosen topic in consultation with an academic supervisor. The Honours year is considered to be a year of full-time study and regular attendance at classes is required. It is possible to do Honours over two years on account of special circumstances. The prerequisite for Honours study is at least a Credit standard in a specified major. Applications are called for by Departments/Disciplines in October and November each year. Applications are made to the relevant Discipline offices, not through SATAC. Further details on Honours are available from Schools and Disciplines in the Facultyvisit www.hss.adelaide.edu.au for more information. Honours is the normal prerequisite for entry to a Higher Degree by Research at the Masters and Doctor of Philosophy level, and is also preferred by many employers.

This double degree program will appeal to students who want a broad perspective in media while gaining a strong understanding of a particular humanities or social science discipline. You will combine the key media courses with one of the many major areas of study in the BA including Languages, Politics, Creative Writing or English. Through careful selection of courses, you are able to complete both degrees in four years.

VET qualifications
Successful completion of vET AQF Certificate Iv awards meet the minimum entry requirements for most Bachelor degree programs and diploma programs. Admission to a small number of Bachelor degrees requires the successful completion of a vET AQF diploma award.
