The volume of the gas depends on the pressure which acts on it. Hypothesis: The smaller the pressure on a fixed mass of gas, the larger is the volume of 1

gas. (c)(i) Aim : To investigate the relationship between pressure and volume for a (ii) fixed mass of gas at a constant temperature. Variables : Manipulated : Gas pressure, P Responding : Gas volume, V (iii) (iv) Fixed : Temperature of gas, T // mass of gas, m Apparatus : 100cm3 glass syringe, load, and a short rubber tube, and Bourdon gauge. Procedure: 1. above. 2. The piston of the syringe is adjusted until the volume of air in the syringe is 50 cm3. 3. Put 100 g of load on the top of piston and the reading of the Bourdon gauge is taken. 4. The volume of the air trapped is measured from the syringe after slotted mass is put on the top of the piston. 5. The experiment is repeated by using different mass = 200g, 300g, 400g, and 500g. 1 1 1 The apparatus is set up as shown in the diagram
