Review of Australian Standards. To keep abreast of progress in industry, Australian Standards are subject
to periodic review and are kept up to date by the issue of amendments or new edit ions as necessary. It is
important therefore that Standards users ensure that they are in possession of the latest edit ion, and any
amendments thereto.
Full details of all Australi an Standards and related publications will be found in the Standards Australia
Catalogue of Publi cati ons; this informati on is supplemented each month by the magazine ‘The Australi an
Standard’, which subscribing members receive, and which gives details of new publi cati ons, new edit ions
and amendments, and of withdrawn Standards.
Suggesti ons for improvements to Australian Standards, addressed to the head offi ce of Standards Australi a,
are welcomed. Noti fi cati on of any inaccuracy or ambiguity found in an Australian Standard should be made
without delay in order that the matter may be investigated and appropriate action taken.

This standard was issued in draft form for comment as DR 73144.

PREFACE

This standard was prepared by the Association’s Committee on Lead and

Lead Alloys, as a revision of AS H10—1938, which it accordingly super-
sedes. It applies to pig lead or ingot lead in an unwrought form made from
ore or other materials by processes of reduction and/or refining.

The earlier standard covered two grades of lead for chemical purposes,

but with this revision, the scope of the standard has been extended to cover
the grades of pig lead currently produced in Australia for uses which are
additional to those for chemical applications. Information on the applica-
tions of the specified grades is given in Appendix B.

As was the case in AS H10, chemical composition is specified, and no

provision is made for physical testing. However, the revised standard does
not include methods of chemical analysis, and reference should be made
to BS 3908, Methods for the Sampling and Analysis of Lead and Lead
Alloys.

In preparing this standard, cognizance was taken of the following overseas

standards:

BS 334 Chemical Lead

ASTM B29 Pig Lead
DIN 1719 Lead
JIS H2105 Pig Lead
IS 27 Pig Lead

Appendix A has been included to assist purchasers ordering lead ingot to

this standard, and sets out the information required to be agreed upon at the
time of enquiry and/or order.
