Organization: SAMSUNG Telecommunications, Dallas Platform: C and UNIX Implementation of Stress Test Simulator Description: This project involved in stressing the performance of BSC in busy hour call scenario by making 100k calls in one hour using the simulator. Both Air interface and AInterface are simulated by developing the MS and MSC simulators on BSC. Organization: SAMSUNG Telecommunications, Dallas Platform: C and UNIX Support Activities I was involved in support activities of Samsung 3G Packet Data Systems. A support activity includes analyzing and fixing problems from our customer. The domains of packet data support activities include Air Interface, MAC-RLP Layers, A10/A11 R-P Interface, and A1 Interface. I was also involved in releasing the patches and releasenotes to the customer site. Implementation of Inter Cell Group HandOver on Nortels BSC 2G V13.0 and BSC 3G Description: Handover inter Cell occurs when a mobile station needs to change from an origin cell to a destination cell in the same BSC. In BSC 2G architecture the Cell management is splited between two boards. Whereas in BSC3G architecture, the Cell management is splitted among several boards. So in BSC2G release 13, the handover cell group is handover inter cell inter board. In BSC3G, inter cell group handover can occur on the same board. Common code is implemented for both BSC2G and BSC3G. Responsibility: Development and testing of the feature Inter Cell Group HandOver which was deigned by Nortel Matra. Client: Nortel Matra Communications (NMC), Paris. Platform: UNIX & C Development of Spectrum System Manager Description: System manager is a diagnostic platform on the BSS which provides a system testing capability for the Factory, R&D, Product Integrity, Product Installation and Product Support teams. Different test tools can be connected to the BSC to activate the tests under operator requests. So, the system TestManager software provides capability to launch tests requests on different components of the 3G BSC. Responsibility: Design, development and testing of Encoder/Decoder Client: Nortel Matra Communications (NMC), Paris. Platform: ObjecTime, C++, C, Tcl-Tk on sun solaris. Call Tracing Description: The Trace function allows the Call processing module on BSC to provide the ONM module with the information about the calls processed by that BSC.

Call Tracing: This function activates a more complete trace on calls identified by the mobile identity. The collected data of a call tracing session will depend on a trace level provided at its activation to call processing Module. Call Path Tracing: This function traces all the communications supported by the BSC with respect to a particular object or equipment (cell, TRX...), each trace including a limited set of information elements. Responsibility: Design, development and testing this feature on both 2G BSC and 3G BSC systems. Client: Nortel Matra Communications (NMC), Paris. Platform: UNIX & C Implementation of Cell Groups In the old BSC architecture, all the modules which participate in the call processing on BSC sit on different hardware boards. And there exists only one instance of each module on these boards. All these modules together form a group to manage all the cells in the BSC. In the new BSC architecture all these software modules are located on the same board and more than one occurrence of the same application may be running on the same board. In the new architecture, each instance of each module joins with the instances of other modules to form a group to manage a group of cells called cell group. During the communication, the instance of each module should be sent in a message. This is implemented as a new feature at SAS. Responsibility: This feature requires development of Cell Group information maintenance' and exchange between all the modules involved in the Call processing on BSC. Client: Nortel Matra Communications (NMC), Paris. Platform: UNIX & C Traffic Management (TMG) module of the Base Station Controller (BSC) of GSM Software There are several phases of the project. The first phase of the project involved migration of source code of TMG module of the BSC software developed by NMC. The code was heavily dependent on compiler which complies the code in packed mode, thus making the software, machine as well as compiler independent. During this phase of migration the source code was made independent of compiler and machine architecture. The next phase of work involved migration of test cases from SIMMAP, a propietory test tool of NMC, to ATTOL, a generic test tool and testing the migrated software. During these migration activities new features were added to the existing unmigrated software. The next phase of work involved merging of the new features with the migrated code and testing the whole module. Responsibility: This project involves writing tools in Perl to automate the migration of all the testcases from SIMMAP tool to ATTOL, migration of source code and tesing the software. Client: Nortel Matra Communications (NMC), Paris. Platform: C, UNIX, SIMMAP, ATTOL test tools.
