SDM1

GENERAL DESCRIPTION The dust meter SDM1 is an instrument for dust measuring and diplaying with led. The instrument has been conceived to be interfaced with a remote probe with tribo-electric effect, mod. RP-04. The two cards are interfaced through a cable 5 poles, which includes a serial digital line for data exchange, and an output +12Vdc and -12Vdc for the above-mentioned probe supply. There are two relay outputs (clean exchange contact) for viewing of dust alarms. The activation or not of each of the two relays is displayed by the status of the two LED on the front panel of the instrument.

Remote tribo-electric probe supply RP-04

The probe with tribo-electric effect RP-04 receives the supply and the interface of I/O from the instrument through a connector, code 01000S0400146. The wiring scheme of the connector on the terminal board of SDM-1 electronic card is represented below.

Terminal SDM1 ATTENTION !!! Be aware of the connections of this scheme. The probe can be seriously damaged if the connection is wrong.

COD. 01000S0400146

SDM-1 must be connected to the probe through 5 poles shielded cable, section 0.5 mm2, through a connector, code 01000S0400145. The socket of the cable (shield) must be connected to the terminal GND; just one of the card, in particular it is preferable the one beside the remote probe RP-04.

ATTENTION !!! The probe is particularly sensitive to electrostatic charges. FAKE THE PROBE IN PROTECTED AREAS ONLY AND AFTER BEING DISCHARGED ELECTROSTATICALLY BY TOUCHING A SURFACE WITH GROUND POTENTIAL.

GENERAL FUNCTIONING At the lighting, the ON led of the SDM-1 device will start to light, with the transmission to the remote probe RP-04 of the value set with the relative sensitive parameter. During this phase, the dust value after a first reading will remain the same. This transmission operation will be performed each time that there will be a change in the earning potentiometer.
ATTENTION! At the first lighting without any calibration, the average values dont have any correspondence with the plant values, thus is possible that these values could reach a full scale by activating the alarm relays. For this reason a virtual calibration is executed in the factory. Make the calibration of the instrument and the configuration of the relays in order to range the measured values with the plant values (see SDM-1 CALIBRATION).

The dust value will be displayed on the led column in base of the percentage valued referred to the value in mg/m3 used for the calculation of alarm threshold. The led lighting will appear in the following way: Led Clean value between 0 and 15% of the value in mg/m3 of alarm threshold. Led Clean + Middle Dust value between 16 and 33% of the value in mg/m3 of alarm threshold. Led Middle Dust value between 34 and 50% of the value in mg/m3 of alarm threshold. Led Middle Dust + Dust value between 51 and 66% of the value in mg/m3 of alarm threshold. Led Dust value between 67 and 85% of the value in mg/m3 of alarm threshold. Led Dust + High Dust value between 86 and 100% of the value in mg/m3 of alarm threshold. Led High Dust value higher that alarm threshold.

SDM1

SDM-1 CALIBRATION The SDM-1 calibration bases itself on the comparison between the dust value detected by the remote probe RP-04 and the one known a priori (in mg/m3) as a result of a gravito-metric analysis, or by other way. N.B.: It is not possible to carry out the instrument calibration unless this data is available; however, an indicative value can be used for a preliminary calibration (at the expense of the reliability of the values pointed out below). It is advised to carry out the procedure once again with updated results and if it possible in concomitance or close to the gravito-metric withdrawal. The probe RP-04 measures the intensity of the tribo-electrical signal, and after an opportune conditioning, the probe is able to convert the signal in the original format, with normalised values with respect to the selected full scale for the probe,( that is to its capacity), and transmitting this full scale to the SDM-1 for the following elaborations. The instrument need a first calibration after the first mounting. Calibration is performed with few simple operations and you dont need the help of qualified people. Lets see in detail the calibration steps: PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS 1) Probe working check The probe RP-04 measures the intensity of the tribo-electrical signal, and after an opportune conditioning, the probe is able to convert the signal in the original format, with normalised values with respect to the selected full scale for the probe,( that is to its capacity), and transmitting this full scale to the SDM-1 for the following elaborations. 2) Probe gain typing Through a mathematical proportion, you can reach the gain value with few operations: - For the calculus, you need the value of gravito-metric analysis and alarm value that you want to set; - When you have these values, through a proportion we have the percentage value of the gravito-metric analysis value: alarm threshold (mg/m3) : 80% = analysis value (mg/m3) : X% N.B. In this case we have to put the threshold alarm at 80% to avoid to carry the threshold reading at the limit. Put the potentiometer of alarm threshold on the percentage value that you got from the mathematical calculus; Spin the potentiometer till the red alarm red is activated; this is the gain value

3) Alarm threshold - Once the potentiometer is activated on gain, you need to put it on the alarm threshold in correspondence of the value decided in calculation stage: 80%.

SDM1

4-20mA OUTPUT FUNCTIONING It is possible to create a changeable current within 4 and 20mA in order to cover the complete range between 0% and 100% (regulation range for alarm threshold.). The current output will have the following reference values: 4mA value corresponds to 0 mg/m3 , that is 0%; 20mA value corresponds to measurement range, that is 100% of the total scale; The intermediate current values will be linear on the total scale.

Fixing the support pipe on the oblique side, through an autogenous welding to the conduct or chimney so that the spring holes to be turned downward according to the vertical ( the tube must create 7.5 angle compared to the horizontal surface) (photo 1 and 2). The hole on the chimney have to be of a diameter between 24,5mm and 26mm. The thickness of the chimney cloak have to be major or equal to 1,5mm.

FLUX DIRECTION

In case of inferior thicknesses is advisable to reinforce the fixing system with a flange. (photo 2) Inserting the probe inside the pipe (the connector must be turned downward) and fixing the position with two screws . The gas flux must have the direction shown in figure (compared to the probe bar).

N.B: the remote probe must be fixed (by welding the spring pipe with the correct angle) respecting a min. distance from any type of fortuity: curves, muffs etcat least six times the conduct diameter. For example (see figure), if the conduct is large 10 the remote probe must be fixed considering a distance bigger than 60 or just as 60.

PROBE RP 04 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION RULES Never cut off the connector code 01000S0400145 with inserted tension. RP04 can be damaged irreparably. Note 1 Note 2 Note 3 Note 5 Cutting off the connector from the probe RP04 in case of electrical welding on the support structure and during the maintenance. In the connections of the probes RP04 use shielded cable Dont draw the probe from its place, unless the SDM1 supply has been cut off. The presence of rain or water in the sampled gases in relevant quantity can distort the signal reading. The container of the remote probe must be connected to the ground of the plant ( under pain of serious measure errors) ; check the pipe to be welded electrically to the conduct and the latter to be connected to the ground of the plant. The connection cable between the tribo-electric probe and the SDM1 must have 5x0,5 mm section (min.), shielded. Connecting the shield to ground terminal on one side only.
