COURSE OBJECTIVES: To make students familiar with fundamentals of electrical and electronics engg. PRE-REQUISITES: NA COURSE CONTENTS: S. No. Description 1 DC Machines: DC Motor basic construction, Principle of operation, characteristics and applications. Types and Selection of DC motor for particular applications. 2 AC Machines: Induction motor Principle of operation, characteristics and applications. Types and Selection of induction motor for particular applications. Synchronous motor basic constructional features, operation principle and characteristics. 3 Communication Systems: Definition of communication, Need of Modulation, Brief description of analog and digital modulation techniques: AM, FM, PM, ASK, FSK and PSK. 4 Introduction to Digital Electronics, Number Systems, Logic gates, Logic circuit design and realization. 5 Combinational and Sequential circuits design using K-Map. MTE 6 Linear and Digital ICs; Op-amps: Parameters and characteristics, inverting and noninverting mode of its operation. Opamp as adder, subtrator, differentiator and integrator. 7 Design of regulated Power Supply using transistors and ICs. Introduction to Switched Mode Power Supply. 8 Introduction to 8085 microprocessor architecture and instruction set. 9 Introduction to 8051 microcontroller architecture and instruction set. 10 Interfacing of microcontroller with dc motor and LED. LAB WORK: 1 Inverting and non-inverting amplifiers using IC741. Opamp as summer, integrator and Diffrentiator. 2 Counter Design using Flip Flops. 3 Use of CRO, Function generator and power supply. 4 Realization of MUX and DEMUX. 5 Active Filter Design using OPAMPS. 6 To plot the speed torque characteristics of a dc motor. 7 To start and reverse the direction of an induction motor. To plot the speed torque characteristics of an induction motor. 8 Interfacing of microcontroller with dc motor and LED. 9 Driving an LED/Relay/motor using 8051 microcontroller output ports. 10 To display alpha numeric characters using TEXT BOOKS: Hughes, Electrical & Electronic Technology 9th Edition, Pearson Publishers, 2007.
