QUESTION 1 (a) A sample of xenon hexafluoride gas with a mass of 71.3 g is in a container of volume 2.50 L and temperature of 120.0 C. (i) Give the molecular formula for this gas.

QUESTION 2 Impure nickel, refined by smelting sulphide ores in a furnace, can be converted to 99.90% purity by the Mond process. The primary reaction is between solid nickel and carbon monoxide gas to produce gaseous tetracarbonylnickel(0), Ni(CO)4. (b) Phosphorous pentachloride gas decomposes into phosphorous trichloride gas and chlorine gas. An equilibrium mixture comprises phosphorous pentachloride (8.3 10-3 mol L-1), phosphorous trichloride (1.5 10-2 mol L-1) and chlorine (3.2 10-2 mol L-1). Calculate the equilibrium constant for this decomposition reaction.
