ANTICIPATORY SET:
1. What were some of the key factors of life in the Middle Ages (i.e., Christianity, Feudalism, Black Plague, Crusades)

OBJECTIVES:

Students will able to create a customized puppet show using school iPads and the Puppet Pals app. Students will recall prior knowledge to include required information about the Middle Ages and the social and political changes that occurred during that time. Students will prove their understanding of the material with their presentation.

Navigating Popplet App and iPad

Chapters 17-18: The Middle Ages

Background: This will be a summative assessment at the end of our Middle Ages unit. Students will have to recall prior knowledge about their selected topic from the Middle Ages to produce a meaningful skit using the Puppet Pals app. This assignment will be completed in partners.

Using iPads: Introduce the app. Allow students to practice using the app making pretend puppet shows about anything they want, allow them to record it and play it back. Point out the following steps (using Smartboard and wireless hook-up to iPad): o o o o o o o Creating Characters Recording Voices Selecting a Location Moving characters Resizing characters, backgrounds, etc. Save and export Complete first steps together

Creating their Show: Complete the first few steps of selecting characters and settings as a class. Then have students move throughout the room to find quiet space to record their skit. They have already chosen partners, have already chosen a topic from the Middle Ages, and will have already written a short skit. Skits should be about 2 minutes long. Wrap Up: Students will have the entire class period (60 minutes) to record and perfect their skit. Students will present their puppet shows using the SmartBoard the following class period.

Summative: Completed Puppet Pals skit Formative: Group & Class Participation, Observation, script for skit.

DIFFERENTIATED STRATEGIES:
Employ visual aides and interactive SmartBoard strategies to reinforce understanding. Provide printed copies of handouts, notes/outlines, study guides, and completed notes when necessary. Modify assignments, packet material, directions, and assessments as needed. Use an FM system when necessary. Give extra time when needed. Give verbal descriptions when necessary. Implement multi/hypermedia to review concepts when appropriate. Give verbal and nonverbal cues when necessary.
