FALLING FILM PHOTOREACTOR WITH FORCED LIQUID CIRCULATION
GENERAL
The synthesis via the photo chemistry is a commonly applied method. Organic synthesises often succeed only due to the radiation with UV-light or will be speeded up. Photochemical reactions are often run at room temperature and so they are gentler than other thermal processes. Photoreactors have a wide range of application, e.g. in synthesis, analysis and waste water treatment.

Construction of the Falling Film Photoreactor

The radiation vessel is the main component of the reactor. It has a capacity of approx. 200 ml and distinguish by the silver coated high vacuum jacket with side strips and tempering jacket. Cooling tube and immersion tube, both made of quartz glass, are located in the radiation vessel. The circulation is effected by the forced circulation pump "System Normag", which is controlled by a control unit. Delivery consists of four supply vessels with volumes of 100, 250, 500 and 1000 ml, as well as a low temperature thermometer for low temperature ranges between -30 C and + 100 C and small pieces. UNITS
LABORATORY UNIT FOR GAS ABSORPTION
GENERAL
Absorption is the intake of gases in a washing liquid by physical solving or reversible chemical reaction. Depending on whether the gas by physical solving or by chemical binding is bound it is a physical or a chemical absorption. When a mixture CO2/air gets in touch with water, the CO2 gas is absorbed in the water but the air is not solved. The absorption capacity of the water for carbon dioxide depends on the influence time, the pressure and the temperature. This unit provides the facility the carbon dioxide to wash out of the carbon dioxide/air mixture. Due to the ratio of the both components determining the separating effect, the solvent flow and the gas flow are aimed varied.

The unit offers the following advantages:

Due to the slight construction height, use in almost all laboratories is possible. All media-touching parts are made of Borosilicate glass 3.3 or PTFE. The single components of the unit are connected with standardised connectors.

UNITS
Construction of the Laboratory unit for gas absorption
The core of the unit is the absorption column consisting of the absorption tube (K), a gas inlet (G) and a siphon part (S). The mentioned parts are connected with conical ground joints NS 45/40 and fitted with a silver coated high vacuum jacket. The absorption column has an inner diameter DN 50 and a length of approx. 1400 mm. The inlet component (E) seats on the upper end of the column and at the lower end seats the siphon part with the drain valve. The both gases air and CO2 are introduced via the connections 1 and 2, adjusted with the valves (V2) and (V3) and mixed together in the mixer (M) then fed over the heat exchanger into the absorption column which is filled with Raschig rings 4/4 mm. The absorption liquid water is directed from the top towards the gas in counter flow from vessel (B1) with the pump (P) and over a flow meter (Q1) and the heat exchanger (W1). The both heat exchanger (W1) and (W2) are connected with a thermostat (TS). Through this is reached that absorption gas and absorption liquid are fed with the same temperature into the absorption column. The issued gas is directed for analysis into a gas analyser (GA). The inlet gas can be also analysed by switching of the three way stopcock (VD). Following data can be captured via a data logger in the unit: Temperature at the water inlet (T1) Temperature at the gas inlet (T2) Temperature in the siphon (T3) Electric conductivity at the water inlet (L1) Electric conductivity in the siphon (L2) Differential pressure above the column (DD) Gas concentration (GA)

The measuring can be analysed at the PC with a suitable software. We will be pleased to submit you our detailed offer.

UNITS
LABORATORY UNIT FOR ABSORPTION OF REACTION GASES
GENERAL
This NORMAG unit for absorption of reaction gas distinguished by its compact construction which meets the high requirements for such units. The only used materials are Borosilicate glass 3.3 and PTFE. Additional safety give powder coated glass parts if required. Only one flange connection will contact the absorption liquid, the other connections are located in the gas part. The flange connections and all other spherical ground joints are polished and allow a long dwell time of the unit. Due to this fact, high concentrated bases as absorption liquids can be used. The connections are sealed with PTFE seals. High vacuum spindle valves made of Borosilicate glass 3.3 and PTFE serve for the locking of the gases and the absorption liquid. The unit is suitable for use under vacuum and available in different types. The sizes 6 litres and 10 litres are designed for laboratory purposes. For this unit we offer a mobile frame, made of stainless steel tube, with safety bath.

UNITS
Construction of the absorption unit
The core of this NORMAG unit for absorption of reaction gas is the absorption column which is sealed on the receiver for the absorption liquid. The absorption liquid is cooled by a double coil, made of Borosilicate glass 3.3, inside the absorption receiver. Connections for the cooling are flanges Pl 15 providing the facility to connect a thermostat hose. Two glass adapter for coupling flange Pl 15 and olive D11 are part of the delivery. The NORMAG glass pump for forced liquid circulation of the absorption liquid with magnet drive is located below the receiver, guaranteeing a quick exchange. Normally, the pump volume is 120 litres/h by 1500 revs/min, but the pump volume can be changed with the control device. Due to safety reasons, the suction and pressure tubes are inside the absorption column. To increase the reaction surface, Raschig rings as packing are used. The gas to be purified is introduced via the HV spindle valve 3 into the unit and rises in the absorption column. The pumped up absorption liquid runs over the Raschig rings towards the gas and the mass transfer can start. The drain off of the purified gas is effected by the connected manifold with spindle valves. The flange and thread connections at the receiver serve for the refilling of the absorption liquid and for taking a thermometer or pH-sensor. A connection, which serves for cleaning the unit is sealed on the head of the absorption column. The used absorption liquid can be drained off by opening the spindle valve at the pump, then the unit can be cleaned and after closing the valve a new absorption liquid can be introduced. For automatic use, an addition funnel is tightly connected with the receiver, so that the absorption liquid can be refilled automatically.

UNITS
Construction of the high vacuum pump stand
The pump stand consists of two easy to dismantle single elements, connected with high vacuum flanges in different sizes. Between the flanges are centring rings with Viton sealing, giving a safe seal and centring of the flanges. The connections for taking vacuum and inert gas are robust high vacuum double spindle valves. The stems of these valves can be made as NS-cone, glass thread or olives, just for customer's requirements. Two safety/overpressure valves guarantee that the unit will not be injured, caused by failure in operating. Due to the pre-fitting of several cold traps it is possible to condense gaseous parts in the suction line. A connection with a high vacuum flange DN 16 provides the facility to connect a vacuum meter with capacitive sensor. The locking of the unit versus the vacuum pump is effected with a great high vacuum spindle valve DN 15. A chemvac combined pump stand serves as vacuum pump. This guarantees the reaching of a sufficient vacuum, and the chemical resistant design ensures a wide range of applications. The vacuum pump stand is integrated in a mobile frame of stainless steel tubes, tube diameter 26.9 mm. Rollers give the possibility to move the stand within the laboratory. Pump stand, vacuum pump and frame can be designed to customer's requirements.

UNITS
Construction of the short path evaporator unit DSV 80
This short path evaporator with roll wiper cage is used for distillation of temperature sensitive products in vacuum ranges from 1-10-3 mbar. The dwell time in the heating zone is only a few seconds. The composition of the condenser in the centre of the evaporator, direct in face to the heating surface, enables the running of short path distillations. The short path evaporator type DSV 80 is made of Borosilicate glass 3.3 and is suitable for short path distillations in laboratories. The evaporator has an inner diameter of 75 mm and a heating surface of 0.058 m. The heating is effected with a liquid medium. A rotating roll wiper cage produces a liquid film on the evaporator surface. The armature is powered from outside via a laboratory agitator and vacuum magnet stirrer seal. The vapours condense at the condenser in the centre of the evaporator. The distillate runs down over the condenser into the distilling receiver. The not distilled sump product is sampled in a ring line below the heating zone and lateral led into the sump receiver. The evaporator can be used for liquid substances with an higher viscosity too.
