Research/Consultancy Projects Completed A number of research projects on the industrial testing of minerals for their value added industrial applications and economic potential (including the size of reserves) were completed on the phosphorite, limestone, dolomite, silica sand, marble, magnesite, chromite, barite, copper and other mineral deposits of NWFP and Balochistan were completed since 1987. Desktop top study on seismic threat to Karachi, problems faced by marble industry in Sindh and Balochistan and Geotechnical/seismic studies for Karachi Elevated Expressway have been recently completed. Besides, a few consultancy projects on behalf of SEGMITE and Geology Department, Karachi University and KTH, Sweden have been submitted to different Govt. agencies on quality of drinking water in Karachi and mitigation measures and arsenic contamination in underground water in Sindh province of Pakistan. Others * Since 1987, surveying testing of industrial rocks and minerals raw materials mainly occurring in NWFP led to the setting up of a cement factory in Nizampur and helped develop many marble, glass and ceramic industries. These studies also helped a large number of local mine owners to develop their mines and supply minerals to the local industries in the country. Helped develop glass, marble, ceramic and gems industries and trade in NWFP. I am the founder Convenor of the Society of Economic Geologists & Mineral Technologies (SEGMITE). It has about 400 Life Members and Life Corporate Members living in Pakistan and 15 other countries of the world. The society has organized a number of national and international events in Pakistan and published proceedings, organized lectures and held industrial clinics, training courses, field workshops on water and oil mineral/ gems resources and their development, utilization and conservation. It has helped in narrowing the gap between technical and business communities in Pakistans mineral sector. Delivered dozens of lectures within and outside Pakistan and published a large number of articles on mineral & water resources, related industries and higher education etc. in national dailies and international newsletters/magazines on nation mineral resources, national mineral policy need for conservation of water and energy resources and their sustainable development. Organized a series of group discussions and lectures in Pakistan on mineral and gemstone resources of Pakistan and related industries by speakers/panel members (local and foreign academicians and traders). Organized a number of business meetings of SEGMITE, held in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Japan and China. Chaired a large number of SEGMITE Board of Directors Meetings and Conference Organization Committees Meetings as well as technical and recommendation sessions in a number of international conferences held on mineral resources in Pakistan and abroad.

I am Vice President (Asia) of Association of Geoscientists for International development (AGID) with main offices in London, U.K and Sao Palo, Brazil. It is an international NGO working for the growth of geo-sciences, development of water and energy resources and protection of the environment. Participated in a large number of seminars and workshops. Edited about two dozens newsletters, abstract volumes, souvenirs and conference proceedings and also edited SEGMITE International Journal, 2004. I have been the National Representative of Pakistan for UNESCO-IGCP project 325 on correlation of paleogeography of world Phosphorites. Submitted Ph.D. Scholarship Program proposal to the members of National Task Force on Science & Technology by Government of Pakistan in 1999. I was also member of the organizing Committee of UNDP Round Table Conference on Foreign Investment in mining and mineral sector of Pakistan held in Islamabad in 1994 and the recommendations of this conference formed the basis of the first ever National Mineral Policy announced by the Government of Pakistan in 1995.
