Suited to P - 8 Oral language has often played second ddle to reading and writing in our teaching practice yet it is the corner stone for all language development and also for constructing learning in a meaningful way. Mobile technology provides the tools to easily utilise students' voice in their daily program and to even up the oral language component over the traditional written emphasis. It offers all students a means to clarify and crystallize their learning in an efcient and more natural way. As an added bonus many of these tools are also a means to share learning and collaborate with global partners for teachers as well as students. This is becoming increasingly important as we move into globally connected classrooms. "Voices" is about creating meaningful learning and collaboration using students and teachers rst means of communication their voice.

Some schools are working effectively with Facebook but for most the risk is too great. Enter Edmodo, a social networking developed by teachers with education in mind. It is very simple to use yet at the same time powerful enough for even the oldest students to work with. Because access is controlled by group codes generated by the teacher it is very safe. Even better there's an app for Edmodo which enables you to access and work with it just about anywhere, In this hands-on session you will create your own Edmodo identity and explore the numerous features that Edmodo contains. Mobile toolbox for Middle Years Numeracy - Britt Gow Suited to 5 to 9 With the wide range of ability in the typical middle years Maths class, differentiation and feedback are the keys to addressing individual learning needs. Mobile devices offer opportunities for increased student engagement, small group work, differentiation of learning intentions and individual feedback. During this session I will demonstrate strategies for integrating mobile devices into Maths lessons and you can try out some of the apps that have been used successfully in my classes. Creating Content with the iPad - Apple Suited to Teachers In this hands-on session will have the opportunity to discover the creative possibilities of the iPad in a learning environment. By exploring different applications, you can see how easy and engaging it is to create a nal piece of content that is ready to share. Creativity Cool - Craig Kerwin Suited to P - 6 This session will look at a a variety of ways that your curriculum can be truly enhanced and become creatively cool, reaching the creative levels of Bloom's Taxonomy through the integration of iPads and iPods. Do you want to be an author? iBooks Author , why and how - Jenny Jongste and Jonathan Nalder Suited to All Creating content for students and allowing students to create their own content encourages and facilitates High Order thinking skills. iBooks author allows this to be done in an effective and beautiful way. Come along to a hands on session exploring the program and the reasons for creating content. Learn how to start creating as well as heaps of useful hints and tips. You are welcome to download iBooks Author (free) from the Mac App store and bring your own laptop or come along and use one of the loan machines. Come along to this session and explore how everyday teachers without any programming experience can develop mobile applications for their students. Those who attend will leave with a useful application that can be instantly deployed and used on return to the classroom. In the eld - Louise Duncan Suited to 7 - 10 Mobile devices allow for new connections with experiences and data collecting in the eld in an ever expanding choice of applications and sensors provided within the devices. Cameras, GPS, audio recording and direction among other sensors, can be harnessed to enhance and share ndings for school based or community based projects. The possibilities for wildlife conservation, geocaching, documenting eld trips, outdoor challenges, science experiments, art and culture will be explored in this session Project Based Learning in hand - Tony Vincent Suited to 3-6, 7-10, 11&12 Project-based learning immerses students into a topic where they share their answer or solution to an open-ended driving question. iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch can play a big part in project-based learning. Not only do projects motivate students because they can use exciting mobile technology, but they also lend themselves to student voice and choice. Be inspired to bring project-based learning into your classroom, learn strategies for creating effective driving questions, and see how an Apple handheld can play a role in the the planning, investigation, and presentation of projects. The iPad comes alive with Augmented Reality - Nathan Jones Suited to 5 - 9 This session will focus on the use of iPad, QR Codes and Augmented Reality (AR) within an Upper Primary/Middle School class. In sharing this wonderful technology, the session will focus on how to effectively use, integrate and deploy QR codes throughout the curriculum and school community. You will see how Augmented Reality has engaged, enhanced and empowered students to write and create books using Book Creator. Trekking - Megan Iemma and Kate Maccoll Suited to 7 - 12, Tertiary Use location based challenges to enhance learning. Look at one way to combine problem solving, teamwork and the great outdoors to enhance your educational outcomes. This workshop uses the SCVNGR app (available iOS and Android) and a 3G enabled device such as an iPhone. Let's take a look at some of the hottest mobile tools for showing, explaining, and retelling. In fact, these tools can turn students into teachers and teachers into super-teachers! Participants in this workshop will choose an iPad screencasting tool and a favorite app to make a screencast. Participants in will play their short screencasts for the group and share them online. This is going to be a great way to learn about favorite educational apps and see the end products from screencasting and whiteboarding iPad apps. Our Grade Two class motto is 'There Are 25 Teachers In This Classroom'. This session considers how the iPad can assist the students in teaching their peers. In the literacy system known as The Daily Five, peer coaching and partner learning are enhanced through use of the iPad. In an oral language-rich maths classroom, the iPad can be used to promote reection and create lively ways of explaining concepts. It's not the products created that count, but the talk, the thinking and the collaboration that happen because of the use of technology.

I Wanna be an ePublisher - John Pearce Suited to P-10 One of the oft heard criticisms of the iPad and other such devices is that they're great for consumption but light on for creation. Whilst this may have been the case in their initial iterations, it is no longer the case. This is particularly so in the area of ePublishing. There are numerous places on the web where ePubs can be sourced just as with traditional bookstores and libraries. Where the game has changed dramatically however is in the creation of ePubs where an ever increasing range of apps make it simple for even the youngest students to create and share very attractive ePubs, This hands-on session will explore some of these apps and show you just how easy it is to be an ePublisher. Creativity And Performance On Your Mobile Device - Katie Wardrobe During this hands-on session, we'll form our own iPad band (no musical experience necessary!), create simple audio recordings and explore ways to incorporate music and sound into your classes. Using GarageBand, learn to play the guitar, drum and keyboard parts of an easy pop song and then record them one by one. Discover how to simplify instruments for younger or less-experienced students (and teachers!) and nd out why it's important to set up your song properly from the get-go. We'll create a quick composition by using the sampler and your speaking voice, and uncover some hidden GarageBand tricks. We'll also look at digital storytelling that incorporates recorded narrative, mood music and sound effects and creating podcasts to present research projects. There will be suitable parts to play for the musically-challenged, as well as the seasoned musician.Needed for this session: GarageBand app (please make sure you update to the latest version) and a pair of headphones. Why not teach your students how to make games for the iOS platform. GameSalad provides an environment to develop iOS games, that is not as confronting as the Apple software developer kit (SDK). If students have used GameMaker they will make the transition easily. All participants in this workshop will make a game by the end of the session. The iPad comes alive with Augmented Reality - Nathan Jones (REPEAT) Suited to 5 - 9 This session will focus on the use of iPad, QR Codes and Augmented Reality (AR) within an Upper Primary/Middle School class. In sharing this wonderful technology, the session will focus on how to effectively use, integrate and deploy QR codes throughout the curriculum and school community. You will see how Augmented Reality has engaged, enhanced and empowered students to write and create books using Book Creator. Work Flows - Jenny Ashby Suited to P - 12 Working on the iPad requires different thinking and different work ows. Jenny will be presenting some basic workows for participants to try that can be used in any curriculum area. From Maths to English to Science or Geography.
