MAIN BASIN: Anambra (cretaceous) SIZE OF LAND AND PROSPECTIVITY: Oil and condensate:1 billion STB, Gas:Over 1 million TCF MAIN RESERVOIR/HYDROCARBON HABITAT: Ajali sandstones STATUS:Proven oil and 705 billon cubic feet of gas from 2 discovery wells, 18 wells drilled to date. OPERATORS: Elf, Shell REMARKS: High geothermal gradient, 19 blocks 2. MAIN BASIN: Benin (Dahomey) Embayment (Cretaceous) SIZE OF LAND AND PROSPECTIVITY: Proven Hydrocarbon: 15 million barrels of oil and 1 trillion cubic feet of gas MAIN RESERVOIR/HYDROCARBON HABITAT: Mainly stratigraphic with minor structural /fault control. STATUS: Interest /Scramble by many operators.1 discovery well in 1996 OPERATORS: Yinka Folawiyo (indigenous operator) backed by Abacan Resources of Canada REMARKS: Extends across the Nigerian- Benin border to Seme Field.18 blocks. 3. MAIN BASIN: Benue (Cretaceous) SIZE OF LAND AND PROSPECTIVITY: 60,000 sq.km.,estimated hydrocarbon volume: 500 million barrels MAIN RESERVOIR/HYDROCARBON HABITAT: Asu river group STATUS: Relatively unexplored Over 3000km of 2D seismic.Shells well Kolmani-I spuded mid March 1999. OPERATORS: Chevron,elf and Shell commenced exploration in 1994 in the Gongola sub basin. REMARKS: Ongoing exploration activity. 29 blocks 4.

MAIN BASIN: Bida (cretaceous) SIZE OF LAND AND PROSPECTIVITY: 20.000 sq. km. MAIN RESERVOIR/HYDROCARBON HABITAT: N/A STATUS: Relatively unexplored although large creage holdings have been established. OPERATORS: N/A REMARKS: 18 blocks 5. MAIN BASIN: Chad (cretaceous) SIZE OF LAND AND PROSPECTIVITY: 35,000 sq.km.. MAIN RESERVOIR/HYDROCARBON HABITAT: Tight reservoirs STATUS: Active exploration.7,000 km of 2D seismic data, and 24 wells with marginal shows in well Wadi-1. OPERATORS: NNPCs Frontier Exploration Services (FES ) REMARKS: Improved seismic techniques required for further basin evaluation 48 blocks 6. MAIN BASIN: Niger Delta (Including the relatively new concessions in the Nigerian Deep waters) (Tertiary) SIZE OF LAND AND PROSPECTIVITY: 75,000 sq.km. of sedimentary basin fill,and over 12 km thickness in its central part. Recoverable hydrocarbon: Over 20 billon bbls. of oil and 120 trillion of gas. MAIN RESERVOIR/HYDROCARBON HABITAT: The paralic Agbada formation which lies between the base continental and the source rock Akata formation STATUS: Mature hydrocarbon province with vast potential still OPERATORS: 57 indigenous and all major multi-national companies including Shell, Elf, Mobil, Chevron, Texaco, and Agip REMARKS: One of the most prolific hydrocarbon provinces in the world. Five major depobelts with a few major sub division. 164 blocks. 7. MAIN BASIN: Sokoto(cretaceous) SIZE OF LAND AND PROSPECTIVITY: 30,000 sq.km..

MAIN RESERVOIR/HYDROCARBON HABITAT: Shallow basin with sedimentary thickness between 500 & 1500 metres. STATUS: Over 1200km of 2D seismic acquired by Elf. OPERATORS: Exploration activities by Elf and Mobil. REMARKS: N/A
