COURSE SYLLABUS For ME 512 AIR CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION SYSTEMS First Semester, AY 2012-2013 I. II. COURSE TITLE: AIR CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION SYSTEMS COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course deals with Psychrometric properties of air; factors affecting human comfort; air distribution and basic duct design, drying, heating and ventilation; cooling load calculations; complete design of an air-conditioning system and its components. Pre-requisite: TIME DURATION: 54 hrs CREDIT UNITS: 3 PLACEMENT: Fifth Year , Mechanical Engineering Students COURSE OBJECTIVES: A. General Objective: After completing this course, the student must able to identify the components and functions of an air-conditioning system, calculate the air conditioning load in a given application, apply the principles of heat transfer and thermodynamic analysis to airconditioning systems, and finally design a simple air-conditioning system for a given applications. B. Specific Objectives: After completing this course, the student must: 1. Able to identify the components and functions of an air-conditioning system. 2. Able to calculate the air conditioning load in a given application. 3. Able to apply the principles of heat transfer and thermodynamic analysis to airconditioning systems. 4.
