OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY

The cog in Nation Building

International Conference

Date: 16 17 August 2012

Why occupational health and welfare

Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg, South Africa

It can convincingly be argued that self-regulation, in which an organization voluntarily monitors its own adherence to legal and ethical standards, is far preferable to having an outside agency such as the government monitor and enforce those standards. This approach allows organizations to maintain control over the standards to which they are held by successfully self-policing themselves. Apart from the Bureaucratic burden that would be imposed by external enforcement, the cost of setting up such a mechanism is also avoided.
Delegates will gain insights on; Management of occupational health and safety as a mainline activity Establishment and maintenance of a Health and safety management policy in a structured manner How to manage financial implications of accidents, ill health and loses there from Describing and cascading health and safety responsibility from the board to individual employees Understanding and relating to statutory requirements on health and safety legislation Minimising the scope and nature of penalties which may be imposed for non-adherence Emphasizing a non-prescriptive approach on risk assessment methodologies Building Blocks Injury free health working Moving from knowing targets to achieving them Effective management of high risk industries Upgrading safety from priority to value Ensuring accountability at all levels Being progressive by being proactive National integration of safety issues in different industries Legislative and regulatory frameworks in health and safety
