Academic & International Fellowships Position Description: Program Specialist

The Program Specialist position is essential to provide programming, advisement and administrative support for the office of Academic & International Fellowships in Undergraduate Programs. The Program Specialist will work collaboratively with various groups and individuals including the Director, Assistant Director, the Mork Family, Stamps, Trustee and Presidential Scholars, the Offices of Admission, Financial Aid, Residential Education, and other campuswide entities to deliver quality student services. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Merit Scholars

Responsible for advisement of over 2000 Stamps, Mork Family, Trustee, and Presidential Scholars Coordinate, in collaboration with the Trojan Scholars Society (TSS) executive board, the freshman orientation program which serves approximately 600 entering Mork Family, Trustee and Presidential scholars Provide general guidance and resources to the TSS organization Supervise TSS Co-Chairs and provide guidance on leadership and programming of services and activities Oversee, with the Co-Chairs and the Director and Assistant Director, the TSS budget and the proper allocation of funds for various social, academic, and community service programs Attend and supervise annual TSS weekend retreat in January or March Review and update policy and application materials for exceptional funding requests Publicize Exceptional Funding information, including deadlines for each academic term In collaboration with Director and Assistant Director, review and approve exceptional funding requests for each academic term Monitor and advise students on their academic progress Provide one-to-one advisement to scholars on personal, academic, and scholarship matters Advise and review individual student cases for exceptions to scholarship policy Respond to parent inquiries concerning scholarship policy or individual student cases Review, in collaboration with Financial Aid, appeals to scholarship denials Serve as a liaison to Admission, Financial Aid, and Residential Education Participate in the development of the policy guide for merit based scholarships Maintain advisement database, website, and email communication for Stamps, Mork Family, Trustee, and Presidential scholars Requirements for donors

National & International Competitive Fellowships

Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to recruit a strong pool of applicants for competitive fellowships, including the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Fulbright, Luce, Churchill, Goldwater, Truman, Gates, Rotary programs, among others

Assist with coordination of outreach for fellowship programs with the intent of expanding quantity and strength of applications Participate in presentation of information sessions on competitive fellowship programs for students, faculty, parents, and staff Coordinate interview process for fellowship programs, including recruiting faculty interviewers and advising the interviewers on the mission and requirements of the programs Assist with writing letters of university endorsement for the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell scholarships on behalf of the Vice Provost Write or coordinate the collection of evaluation forms for remaining fellowship programs Contribute and participate in receptions and other events recognizing fellowship recipients, such the Walls of Scholars, Student Recognition Ceremony, and Academic Honors Convocation Participate in the bi-annual National and International Graduate Fellowships advisory committee meetings; prepare materials on the progress of the program, including information about outreach efforts and fellowship recipients Develop promotional materials in the form of brochures, flyers, and other publications Assist with maintenance of website for competitive fellowships Provide referrals to other fellowship and overseas studies resources
