Due to extensive domestic and international crises, the Iranian regime has hit an impasse. The mullahs have reacted by resorting to suppression and violations of fundamental human rights within the country, and continuing to confront and wage war against the international community. The world is faced with its biggest present challenge, which incorporates the prospects of a catastrophic war, due to the mullahs insistence on pressing ahead with their nuclear weapons program, their deadly and uninterrupted interference in the affairs of Iraq, Palestine, and Lebanon, as well as their relentless efforts to export terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism abroad. democratic Iranian opposition groups and personalities, of which the PMOI is a member organization), the mullahs make use of their agents and associates to set up numerous front organizations and networks .in European countries and the United States The mullahs wholly disregard the principles of human rights and democratic norms and regulations, and for this reason they have consistently topped the list of government violators of human rights in the world. Nonetheless, the mullahs cunningly exploit the democratic conditions of the U.S. and European countries, and especially take advantage of the policy of appeasement these governments have adopted towards them, to send their agents abroad in order to set up various networks and disseminate false accusations against the PMOI with respect to human rights that are only attributable to the regime itself. Through these efforts, the mullahs determinedly aim to discredit and tarnish the image of the strongest and largest organized resistance to their rule, i.e. the PMOI and the NCRI, in a bid to provide the political groundwork in Western countries for the suppression and imposition of further pressures against that democratic alternative. has executed 120,000 PMOI members, sympathizers, and Iranian people, as well as torturing 500,000 more. Accordingly, it has been condemned over 53 times by various United Nations bodies. Neither such a dark record of human rights violations nor designations like the biggest state sponsor of terror, realistically permit the regime to openly disseminate its propaganda and allegations against the Iranian Resistance through its ofcial channels. For example, the main political and propaganda directives against the Iranian Resistance at each stage and in all aspects are planned and communicated by the MOIS in Iran. Intelligence reports from various European countries clearly prove some of the regimes plots to carry out a misinformation campaign against the Iranian Resistance. Annual reports from the German Federal Ofce for the Protection of the Constitution (BFV) reiterate that the MOISs main target abroad is the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the PMOI. The MOIS attempts to employ former members of these organizations for intelligence gathering and conducting of misinformation against the PMOI in order to weaken and discredit the organiza.tion The Dutch Security Services (AIVD) wrote in its 1998 report that, It is still being noted that Iranian intelligence services are active in the Netherlands.
