1. The Brief
The brief is to develop new technology and design to make everyday products more efficient. Dyson believes in creating new technology as well as building innovations in existing technology to achieve better products

2. Design Specification
A list of requirements is compiled, relating to how the product will be used and how it will look.

3. Vision Specification
engineers start by creating a vision specification. This is a basic sketch of what the machine will look like and what features it will have.

4. Research and Idea Development

This is all part of research, design and development, or RDD. Design engineers work in teams, discussing and sketching their ideas. Engineer's concept and the next vital step - creating basic 3D models.

5. Designing with your user in mind

Design engineers must never lose sight of the person who'll use the product they're designing. It's important to consider that they may not always use it in the way the designer had in mind.

6. Design and the environment

It's important to consider what impact your design might have on the environment. It's not only the sort or amount of raw materials that's important; it's the whole lifecycle of a product. This includes material selection, manufacture, transportation, use and recycling.

7. 3D Prototyping
Once design engineers have identified an idea and sketched it out, the next step is to build a 3D prototype. As the design develops, computer-aided design (CAD) software is used to plan the detail and create more complex prototypes that can be used for testing.
