Blackberry maker Research In Motion (RIM) to cut 2,000 jobs, splits COO jobs

WHAT IS RIM?
Research In Motion (RIM), a global leader in wireless innovation, revolutionized the mobile industry with the introduction of the BlackBerry solution in 1999.

Blackberry maker Research in motion is the Canada based Smartphone manufacturing company which ruled the Smartphone market of the world till last year. Its stake in market reduced because of global competitors like apple inc. , Samsung and android based smart phones. RIM stock prices are decreasing as of reduced sales & poor management . It dropped from c$ 69.30 on 18th feb,11 to c$ 24.31 on 20th july,11.

NEW YORK:BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. is cutting 2,000 jobs as part of a cost savings plan announced last month and is shuffling some senior executives.
The job cuts amount to about 10 percent of the company's work force.

RIM has been hurt by product delays and competition from Apple Inc.'s iPhone and smart phones that run Google Inc.'s Android operating system.
The launch of its Playbook tablet computer, meanwhile, wasn't as successful as the company had hoped.

RIM reported a 10 percent drop in its fiscal firstquarter earnings in June and gave an outlook for the year that was well below what analysts had expected. Also Monday, RIM said it is naming two executives to take on different parts of the chief operating officer role. COO Don Morrison went on medical leave in June. Thorsten Heins is being named chief operating officer, product and sales. Jim Rowan will become COO, operations. Morrison is retiring after more than 10 years with the company.

CONCLUSION
RIM is sinking day by day because of :
Increased competition in market. Poor management. Products not upgraded regularly. Unnecessary expenses of the company.
