A long time ago in one of the villages of Bontoc live a
cruel couple. Their cruelty extends even to their two children
– a son and a daughter – in spite of their being industrious
and obedient. The children always worked hard but it never
satisfied their cruel parents and they were always scolded for
not doing enough. The children were fed up by the cruelty of
their parents that, one day, they decided to run away. They
collected only the things they own and started going south
before the sun start to rise. They walked for three days until
they reached the top of a mountain (which is to be called Mt.
Data) where the view was enjoyable. Though the view was
pleasant, they realized that they could not possibly stay and
build their home here because their parents can still manage
to come and fetch them.
And so, they decided to move on and part ways – the
brother went down the eastern side and the sister trekked to
the western side of the mountain. They are really determined
not to be found so they prayed to Lumawig, the God of the
Skyworld, to turn them into streams of water. Their prayers
granted, the unhappy siblings were turned into rivers. The

> first regional creative writing workshop to be held at the UPB campus
> from April 24 to 27, 2007.

> The Workshop is open to aspiring young writers who are college-level
> students and fresh graduates of universities and colleges in the
> Cordillera Administrative Region, writing in any of the Cordillera
> languages (Ilokano, Ibaloy, Kankanay, etc.), Filipino and English.
> Interested applicants are required to submit any of the following:

> Three (3) poems
> One (1) short story
> One (1) creative non-fiction
> One (1) children's story
> One (1) single-act play
> Excerpt (one chapter) from a novel
>
> All entries must bear the name of the author and accompanied by an
> application letter, an endorsement from the university or college they
> are representing, and a brief curriculum vitae of the applicant. All
> works must be original and unpublished in major publications or
> anthologies. Applicants submitting works in the Cordillera languages
> are requested but not required to furnish an accompanying
translation
> in Filipino or English.

> Deadline of submission of entries is March 23, 2007, 3:00 p.m. All
> entries must be submitted in a long brown envelope sealed with the
> applicant's signature. Entries should be sent by mail or delivery to
