PREFERRED COMMUNICATION METHODS


I prefer to be contacted via e-mail. I check it several times a day, and I will get back to you within 24 hours or less. My class website is updated monthly. I will send home weekly newsletters to inform you what we are learning in class and other important information. READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
*Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. Vocabulary Acquisition and Use: Identify frequently occurring root words (e.g., look) and their inflectional forms (e.g., looks, looked, looking). Conventions of Standard English: Produce and expand complete simple and compound declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences in response to prompts.

MATH
Tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks. Represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction. Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem. Understand place value. Compare two two-digit numbers based on meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, and <.

SOCIAL STUDIES
History: Describe how people in different times and places viewed the world in different ways. Geography: Identify physical characteristics of places, both local and global (e.g., locations, roads, regions, bodies of water). Social Systems: Identify major social institutions in the community

SCIENCE
Inquiry and Design: Develop questions on scientific topics. Concepts and Principles: Identify and describe the component parts of living things (e.g., birds have feathers; people have bones, blood, hair, skin) and their major functions.

Science, Technology and Society: Demonstrate ways to reduce, reuse and recycle materials.

FINE ARTS
Language of the Arts: Identify the elements of line, shape, space, color and texture; the principles of repetition and pattern; and the expressive qualities of mood, emotion and pictorial representation. Creating and Performing: Demonstrate knowledge and skills to create visual works of art using manipulation, eye-hand coordination, building and imagination. Arts and Civilization: Identify the distinctive roles of artists and audiences.

DISCIPLINE POLICY
Positive Reinforcement: I make sure to reward good class behavior, peer interactions, and individual behavior. I will give good work tickets to reward great behavior in these categories. Negative Consequences: First Offense- Warning Second Offense- Note home to parents and cooldown period Third Offense- Call home and visit to the principal

CELEBRATING SPECIAL EVENTS


Our class loves to celebrate birthdays and seasonal events! Feel free to send in treats for your childs birthday. The class will enjoy these at the end of the day. There will be a sign up sheet for seasonal parties. Please remember to bring store-bought food, as it is a school policy. If you do not feel comfortable having your child celebrate birthdays or seasonal events, please feel free to send me a note or e-mail.
