1. Pressure What is Pressure??

Pressure is defined as force per unit area P= F A

2.

Pressure in liquids
P = hg

What is GAS PRESSURE?

Gas pressure/ Air pressure the force exerted on a surface by air molecules per unit area of the surface.

What is ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE?

The pressure exerted by the atmosphere on the surface of the earth as well as all objects on the earth.

What is the instrument to measure gas and atmospheric pressure?

Gas u tube manometer, atm - barometer

Can you explain Pascal principle?

Pressure applied to an enclosed liquid is transmitted equally to every part of the liquid

What is the formula used in hydraulic system?

Try This!!!
Push the ball into the water. What do you feel???

Chapter 5: Force and Pressure

3.5: Applying Archimedes Principle

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this lesson, you should be able to: Explain Buoyant Force Relate buoyant force to the weight of the fluid displaced State Archimedes Principle Describe applications of Archimedes Principle Solve problems involving Archimedes Principle.

Todays Activities:
1. Class activity to investigate the relationship between the buoyant force and weight of fluid displaced.
2. Group discussion on Archimedes Principles application.

What is Buoyant Force??

Buoyant Force is.

An upward force resulting from an object being wholly or partially immersed in a fluid.

What is the relationship between the buoyant force and the weight of fluid displaced??

Liquid displaced

Buoyant force

ACTIVITY 1 !!!
To investigate the relationship between the buoyant force and the weight of fluid displaced

ARCHIMEDES PRINCIPLE
State that, when an object is wholly or partially immersed in a fluid, it experiences a buoyant force equal to the weight of fluid displaced.

ACTIVITY 2 !!!
Applications of Archimedes Principle

In group, find.. - The working principle - How Archimedes Principle was applied?

Learning Outcomes
1. Explain Buoyant Force
The upward force resulting from an object being wholly or partially immersed in a fluid.

2.

Relate buoyant force to the weight of the liquid displaced

BUOYANT FORCE = WEIGHT OF THE LIQUID DISPLACED (for an object which immersed wholly or partially in fluid)

3.

State Archimedes Principle

State that when object is wholly or partially immersed in a fluid, it experiences a buoyant force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.

Pressure

P=F A Pressure in liquids, P = h g Si Unit: Pascal (Pa) Gas pressure Atmospheric pressure

Pascals Principle

Archimedes Principle

Bernoullis Principle

Hydraulic system
